Ban light pollution

You want your telescope to gather light from the sky, not from city lights and other artificial sources. The Celestron UHC (ultra high contrast) light pollution reduction filter selectively reduces transmission of those distracting wavelengths of terrestrial light, for a vast improvement in your night-sky viewing experience. Advanced technology coatings allow the filter to achieve an outstanding transmission of over 97% across the entire bandpass, with total blockage of prominent light pollution lines. That means better viewing of nebulae through light polluted skies, or a nice boost in contrast when viewing nebulae from dark sky sites. It's a must-have for deep-sky photographers.

Hands-on research

What's in the box?

  • UHC/LPR filter in plastic case

Product Research

Overview: One of the biggest obstacles to viewing the night sky is light pollution, also known as "sky glow." The Celestron UHC/LPR (Ultra High Contrast/Light Pollution Reduction) filter helps cut through the light pollution, blocking certain wavelengths of light, and increasing contrast. Sky glow is caused by the combination of artificial light from mercury vapor and high- and low-pressure sodium vapor lights and unwanted natural light caused by neutral oxygen emission in the atmosphere. With the UHC/LPR filter, the background sky is darker, and the contrast is higher, so you can better view distant objects.

Special Coatings: The UHC/LPR filter uses advanced technology coatings to enable the filter to achieve an outstanding transmission of over 97% across the entire bandpass. With more advanced telescopes, the UHC/LPR is recommended for viewing nebula, and for boosting the contrast of nebula in deep sky sites.

Installation: The UHC/LPR Filter is threaded and simply screws onto the insert barrel of most 1.25" eyepieces.
