Music production is easier and more affordable than it's ever been. Fire up your computer, grab your guitar and a mic, and connect them to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface. Before you know it, you'll be capturing performances, mixing tracks with the included Ableton Live Lite or your own software, and producing polished recordings worthy of sharing with friends.

Two combination mic preamps

The Scarlett 2i2 features two front-panel Neutrik Combo® inputs. Each can accept cable connectors from a microphone, electric guitar or bass, or a line-level signal from a keyboard or drum machine. A switch changes the input from "instrument" — for guitars and basses — to line-level signals. There's also a button to enable 48-volt phantom power for use with high-sensitivity condenser microphones. High-quality, low-noise Focusrite preamps offer clean sound with plenty of dynamic punch. You can plug in your headphones to monitor your performance as you record. If you have powered studio monitors, hook them up via the rear-panel 1/4" outputs.

Direct monitoring for ultra-low latency

Whenever you're recording with a computer, you have to understand how to manage latency. This is the delay sometimes caused by bogged-down computer processors as you record. Fortunately, the Scarlett 2i2 takes care of latency for you by offering direct monitoring. Activate it with the front-panel switch, and input signals are routed to your monitors before being sent to your computer, thus virtually eliminating latency. Or, switch off direct monitoring to add effects like compression and reverb from your DAW to your monitor mix.

Includes Ableton Live Lite recording software and plug-ins

If you don't already own recording software, the Scarlett 2i2 comes bundled with Ableton Live Lite, which offers all you need to start making recordings right out of the box. Also included are the Scarlett Plug-in Suite — with EQ, compression, gating, and reverb effects — and Novation Bass Station, a software version of the classic Novation analogue synth used in electronic music. There's also a sample library of loops to help you get started making music on your own.

Specifications

Features

Overview: The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a 2-in/2-out USB recording interface, housed in a red anodized aluminum chassis. It allows you to record onto a Windows or Macintosh computer. The Scarlett 2i2 is recommended for soloists, songwriters, or stereo recording. It has 2 analog inputs, 2 balanced outputs, and a headphone output with volume control. The 2i2 comes with a USB cable and free software via download.

Mic Preamps: The Scarlet 2i2 features two high-quality Focusrite mic preamps with Neutrik combo connectors that accept either XLR or 1/4" plugs. The rotary input level controls have unique gain "halo" indicators that change color to let you know if you have a good signal (green), borderline clipping (amber), or clipping (red). The award-winning Focusrite microphone preamps feature plenty of headroom and 48V phantom power, if needed.

Line Inputs: The front panel Neutrik combo connectors can be used to connect line-level devices via XLR or 1/4" plugs. The line inputs will accept balanced or unbalanced plugs.

Instrument Inputs: The front panel inputs can be used for connecting an instrument, such as a guitar. They will accept TRS (balanced) or TS (unbalanced) plugs. When you set the front panel inputs as instrument inputs by toggling the Line/Inst switch to "Inst", the impedances are altered (relative to line), and the contacts are optimized for connecting the instrument.

Computer Interface: The Scarlett 2i2 connects to your Windows or Macintosh computer via high-speed USB 2.0 (cable included). The signals are routed to the audio recording software at up to 24-bit 96kHz resolution. The Scarlett 2i2 is compatible with Windows 7 (all versions), Windows 8 (all versions except RT), and Mac OS X 10.8, or later.

Included Software: Included with the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is Scarlett MixControl software, a powerful music production tool for recording and mixing. Scarlett plug-ins give you additional tools for enhancing your recordings. The Novation Bass Station is a software synthesizer that lets you add bass or melody sounds to your music. A sample pack of drum loops and sound effects from Loopmasters is also included. All of the software is available free via download.
