About the Focusrite Scarlett Studio
If you've always had an urge to record your own music but weren't sure how to begin, check out the Focusrite Scarlett Studio. It's got everything you need to start laying down tracks — all you need to supply are instruments, a computer, and some song ideas. Best of all, it's easy to get set up and recording with just a few connections. Here's what's in the box:
- Scarlett 2i2 USB 2.0 recording interface
The Scarlett 2i2 interface routes signals from connected instruments and microphones to your computer for recording.
Focusrite's Scarlett 2i2 interface lets you record up to two tracks simultaneously, so you can record solo or with a partner. Two front-panel Neutrik Combo® inputs can accept cable connectors from a microphone, electric guitar or bass, or a line-level signal from a keyboard or drum machine. High-quality, low-noise Focusrite preamps offer clean sound with plenty of dynamic punch. Plug in headphones or powered studio monitors for tracking and mixing. A direct monitoring option routes input signals from instruments and mics to your monitors, minimizing minor processing delays known as latency. Turn off direct monitoring to add effects like compression and reverb from your digital audio workstation (DAW) to your monitor mix.
- Cubase LE 6 recording software
Don't have your own DAW? No worries. Cubase LE 6 lets you capture and fine-tune your performances to produce professional-sounding songs. With a full suite of mixing and editing features, you can do almost anything, from polishing simple two-track "live" performances to managing complex multitrack recordings. The included Scarlett plug-in suite offers effects like compression, EQ, and reverb, while the Novation Bass Station is a powerful software synth with lots of cool possibilities. A sampler of Loopmasters drum loops and sound effects will help get you started and add some flair to your recordings.
The CM25 condenser microphone captures vocals and acoustic instruments with clarity and detail.
- CM25 condenser microphone
The mics you often see used on stage aren't ideal for studio recording. The CM25 is a large-diaphragm condenser mic designed for studio use, with the sensitivity to pick up the nuances of your vocal performances. Connect it to the included XLR cable, plug it into the Scarlett 2i2, and you're ready to start tracking. We recommend picking up a mic stand for connection to the included threaded adapter.
- HP60 headphones
When you're recording with live microphones, you need a good pair of headphones to monitor your performance and hear the click or backing tracks. These around-the-ear headphones are great for monitoring as well as mixing and mastering. The large dynamic drivers are optimized for accurate sound. Pop the 1/4" adapter on for connection to the Scarlett 2i2 interface, or use the miniplug connector for listening to your finished songs on a smartphone.
