Add wireless music to your home stereo

Mass Fidelity's Relay Hi-Fi Bluetooth DAC makes it easy to play all the music accessible from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, tablet, or laptop through your existing home theater or stereo system with wireless ease and convenience. Simply plug this add-on Bluetooth receiver into your system and get the freedom to move around while enjoying rich, full-range sound. But the Relay is more than just a basic Bluetooth receiver. Its built-in, audiophile-quality DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and advanced 24-bit digital signal processor ensure that your music comes through with outstanding dynamics and clarity.

High-fidelity Bluetooth

The Relay features aptX® audio coding, an advanced type of Bluetooth wireless streaming that retains virtually all the detail of the audio signal it carries. It's also compatible with AAC Bluetooth, which enhances the quality of transmission from compatible devices such as Apple portables, iTunes®, Nintendo DSi, BlackBerry phones, and more.

And if your Bluetooth device doesn't have aptX or use AAC Bluetooth, don't worry. The Relay is also backwards-compatible with earlier forms of Bluetooth. So you can wirelessly stream your music from almost any portable device and still enjoy great sound.

Product Research

Features

Bluetooth Receiver: Mass Fidelity's Relay Bluetooth receiver supports Bluetooth version 2.1+EDR and lets you stream music wirelessly from almost any Bluetooth enabled device; such as a Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, Windows PC, Mac computer, and more to your home audio system with a free analog RCA or digital coax input. Relay is a true high fidelity component that brings out the full sound quality potential from your wireless digital music.

Note: With Relay you'll never miss a call even if you're using your phone to listen to music. Incoming calls and notifications take precedence over audio playback. If the phone rings, Relay gently mutes the music volume and allows the call to be answered from the phone.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Relay Bluetooth receiver supports Bluetooth A2DP and lets your stream stored music libraries, music apps, internet radio, podcasts, and Cloud servers from your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone/tablet, computer/laptop, or other Bluetooth-compatible device to your home audio system. Bluetooth's A2DP-profile can consistently sustain 1.5Mbps and allow bursts of up to 3Mbps;  more than enough data to stream uncompressed better-than-CD-quality audio.

Note: To access audio files on a home network with iOS devices enable "Home Sharing" on the mobile device and every music file on your home network is instantly available to playback on the Relay. For Android devices use a 3rd party music player app (such as BS Player) to access networked music libraries.

aptX & AAC Decoders: The Relay Bluetooth receiver decodes both aptX (for Android) and AAC (for Apple) encoded signals for high-quality audio playback.

External High-Gain Antenna: The Relay employs the latest technologies and superior components such as an ultra low-loss connector and external high gain antenna to ensure consistent, glitch-free performance up to 30'.

24-Bit DAC & Audio Processor: The Mass Fidelity Relay is more than just a Bluetooth receiver; it's also a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) and digital audio processor. Inside the Mass Fidelity Relay is a Burr-Brown 24-bit/48kHz DAC (5102) and a 24-bit Cirrus Logic digital audio processor. This combination of advanced hardware and software preserves all the musical detail, dynamic range and full bandwidth response that will elevate your wireless digital music experience with a frequency response of 10Hz to 20kHz (+/-0.2dB), 112dB signal-to-noise ratio, and 112db dynamic range.

Low Jitter: Relay's ultra stable phase locked audio sample clock vastly reduces jitter allowing the built-in DAC to render the audio signal more faithfully. Just one more reason why Relay sounds distortion free and utterly faithful to the music the artist intended you to hear.

Triple Star Ground Circuitry: Relay's linear low noise, low-dropout regulators and superior input noise filters reject signal noise and interference from the outside world, while its Triple Star Ground circuit geometry eliminates any possibility of ground loop induced hum.

Simple Pairing: Pairing a Bluetooth device to the Relay is a snap; simply push the control button on the back of the unit briefly and see the rear-panel LED glow white. The Relay then automatically goes into pairing mode and initiates the software that synchronizes the Relay and your Bluetooth-enabled device. Make sure "Bluetooth" is activated in your device, and then select "Relay" from the list of available devices. The Relay can connect to only one smart device at a time; however it is capable of remembering up to six devices. In households where more than one person uses the system or when guests want to share their music through the Relay and your hi-fi system, the Relay offers TurboPairing and PartyPairing.

  • TurboPairing: Once a device has paired with the Relay, TurboPairing remembers it to speed up pairing at a later time. Once more than six devices have been paired the oldest device is discarded. To add a device back into TurboPairing  memory, simply reconnect the device.
  • PartyPairing: PartyPairing eliminates a step in switching from one source device to another. Just turn Bluetooth off in the first device, turn Bluetooth on in the second and select Relay as the device. There is no need to reset the Relay and press it's control button a second time.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Mass Fidelity Relay.

Analog & Digital Outputs: The Mass Fidelity Relay has two gold-plated RCA jacks that can operate either as analog or digital outputs.

  • Analog Output: Simply connect the supplied RCA-to-RCA signal cable from Relay's L&R outputs to the RCA analog inputs of your audio system. For systems that have minijack (3.5mm) input, use the supplied minijack-to-RCA cable.
  • Digital Output: Listeners who prefer to use an outboard DAC or the digital input of a surround receiver can do so by holding the rear-panel control button for 5 seconds until the LED turns orange. Connect either output jack to the digital input of the amp, receiver or DAC (digital coax cable sold separately). Relay can feed two digital streams at the same time. For example you can feed one digital output to a surround receiver or your system's primary DAC and the other to a headphone amp/DAC combo unit.

Aluminum Chassis: The Mass Fidelity Relay's chassis is machined from solid aerospace-grade aluminum for a rigid, non-resonant chassis.

External AC Power Supply: The Relay operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power supply.

  • Input: 100-240V~50/60Hz, 0.2A
  • Output: 5V - 1.0A

Customer Q&A

Q
I recently bought the Arcam miniblink from crutchfield. Is there any reason why this should be $100 more expensive. What do I get in addition other than the coax out?

A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The signal to noise ratio is slightly better on the Relay (112 vs 106 db). The only other difference is that you receive a coaxial digital audio output with the Relay. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
