Detachable Lightning cable connects the Audeze EL-8 Titanium to your iPhone (cutaway view shows cable's built-in DAC and amp).
It is no surprise that Audeze offers the first headphone we carry that can connect to the Lightning port of your iPhone®or iPad®. They always seem to push headphone design a little further with every new release. The Audeze EL-8 Titanium includes two detachable cables: a standard listening cable with miniplug, and their "Cipher" Lightning cable with a built-in amp, DAC, and microphone. When connected to a compatible Apple device, the Lighting cable delivers higher-definition audio to the EL-8's special planar magnetic drivers.
The planar magnetic advantage
Planar magnetic drivers produce a warm, detailed soundstage with a wide-open sense of depth and space. Unlike the dynamic drivers found in most headphones, planar magnetic drivers rely on an ultra-thin diaphragm with a large surface area to generate sound. A flexible circuit is etched across the entire surface of the diaphragm, which is suspended within a magnetic field.
When the circuit receives an audio signal, it causes the diaphragm to move back and forth — moving air and creating sound. Since it starts and stops so quickly, the resulting sound is clean and accurate across a wide frequency range. You hear tight, tuneful bass, smooth mids, and open highs. Music has a three-dimensional feel that's close to listening to loudspeakers.
Audeze created a lighter, more efficient headphone
Audeze developed a specialFluxor™ magnet to reduce weight and increase efficiency in the EL-8s (also available without the Lightning cable in wood-grained closed-back and open-back versions). This super-powerful magnet has nearly double the strength of a traditional magnet. Rather than creating the magnetic field with two magnets on either side of the diaphragm, the EL-8s only need to use one Fluxor magnet for each planar driver. That makes the headphones smaller and lighter overall.
Designed for listening at home and on the go
BMW DesignWorks USA designed the EL-8 Titanium headphones. And the striking industrial design is not only for looks,but it also makes the headphones durable enough for everyday use. Padding on the headband and earcups keep you comfortable as you listen.
A built-in mic on the Lightning cable lets you answer phone calls and talk to Siri without removing the headphones. But if you ever do have to take them off, the EL-8s fold completely flat for easy transport.

Overview: The legendary Audeze EL-8 over-ear headphones feature high-performance planar magnetic drivers that provide a warm, pleasant sound signature. This Titanium model is a closed back model that shuts out external noise and keeps your music in. The Titanium model also comes with the Cipher cable made for iPod, iPhone, and iPad with an in-line remote/microphone and a Lightning connector. There are two other versions of the EL-8: another closed-back model without the Cipher cable, and the open-back model that lets you stay in touch with your surroundings. The EL-8 Titanium features an industrial design by BMW DesignWorksUSA. In addition to the Cipher cable, the headphones include a detachable 6.5' cable with a 3.5mm plug with no remote/mic. A 3.5mm-to-1/4" adapter is included for use with your home components or a headphone amplifier. The EL-8 headphones are handcrafted in the USA.
Design: The Audeze EL-8 Titanium is equipped with industry leading technology that creates an unsurpassed listening experience in this price range. The new Fluxor magnets present a much higher magnetic flux density than the highest-grade neodymium magnets, resulting in greater efficiency and reduced weight. The patent-pending Uniforce diaphragms have variable trace widths in the voice coil that capture variations in the magnetic field within the magnetic gaps. This creates a uniform driving force over the diaphragm surfaces, resulting in higher resolution, better imaging, and much lower distortion. Audeze's patent-pending Fazor elements, placed just outside the two magnet structures that surround the diaphragm in each capsule, guide and manage the flow of sound around the magnets, improving clarity and focus. The EL-8 Titanium is efficient enough to work well with most mobile devices, however, for best performance, a high-quality external headphone amplifier is recommended.
Cipher Cable: The EL-8 Titanium include a 4' Cipher cable that has a Lightning connector that plugs directly into many iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch models. The Cipher cable bypasses the iOS device's internal DAC and amplifier and directly streams a complete 24-bit digital signal into an in-line DSP (digital signal processor) and DAC (digital-to-analog converter) for stunning sound quality. The in-line 3-button remote/microphone controls the following music and phone commands: Play/Pause, Skip Track (forward), Previous Track, Fast Forward, Rewind, Answer/End call, Reject call, Switch calls, and Volume Up/Down. The Cipher is also compatible with SIRI voice commands and voice calls. The Cipher Cable is compatible with the following devices:
