About the Audeze SINE
Not your typical on-ear headphones
Not your typical on-ear headphones
The Audeze SINE on-ear headphones feature high-performance planar magnetic drivers and sport a striking, portable design.
I can honestly say we don't carry anything else quite like Audeze's SINE headphones. The high-end headphone company has taken their much-lauded planar magnetic technology and somehow squeezed it into a stylish pair of portable on-ears. This is quite the feat considering the basic principle behind planar magnetic ‘phones is using a larger diaphragm to move more air. But by employing their breakthrough Fluxor™ magnet system, they've created a more efficient "way to play," so to speak. iPhone® and iPad® users: Another version of the Audeze SINE offers better sound through an included high-resolution Apple® Lightning cable with a built-in DAC/headphone amp.
Why planar magnetic drivers?
Audeze uses planar magnetic drivers rather than dynamic drivers found in most headphones. These drivers often produce a more natural, detailed soundstage. They rely on the movement of an ultra-thin diaphragm with a large surface area. The diaphragm is covered with a flexible circuit and suspended within a magnetic field.
When the circuit receives an audio signal, the diaphragm moves back and forth to create sound. It starts and stops rapidly for clean and accurate sound across a wide frequency range.
How Audeze fit the drivers into smaller earcups
The diaphragms in the SINE headphones are smaller than the ones Audeze typically uses. (Keep in mind, the drivers and earcups are still larger than most on-ear headphones.) To make up for the loss in size, Audeze uses their super-powerful Fluxor magnets for quicker movement. These magnets are nearly double the power of a traditional magnet, making the Audeze SINE drivers incredibly efficient.
Not only are the SINE 'phones lighter and more portable than other planar magnetic headphones, but you don't necessarily need a headphone amp to enjoy them. They have a clean sound with smooth midrange and refined highs. The bass is tight and punchy, reinforced by the closed-back ear cups.
Handsome, travel-friendly design
Audeze teamed up with BMW Designworks USA to make sure these headphones look good enough to grab every time you step out. The tasteful genuine leather cover on the outside of the 'cups certainly helps. And the nimble, folding earcup design makes them easy to take with you anywhere.
The headphones fit a little snug so you get the best sound performance, and so they stay secure as you move. But the leather earpads and headband feel soft and well-cushioned.
