About the Audio-Technica ATW-801/H
The system
The system
Audio-Technica designed their System 8 wireless systems to give you high-quality performance at an economical price. They're easy to set up and operate, and give you reliable performance and crisp, clean sound quality.
Receiving
The System 8 ATW-801/H system is based around Audio-Technica's ATW-R800 receiver. This single-channel, fixed-frequency receiver is available in three VHF frequency bands: 169.505, 170.245, and 171.905 MHz. These "traveling" frequencies will normally work anywhere in the US and Canada, and the receiver's dipole antenna helps cut interference and increase signal range.
Transmitting
The system also features Audio-Technica's ATW-T801 UniPak® bodypack transmitter. which clips onto your belt, pocket, or other clothing, and operates for 8 hours on two AA alkaline batteries. And weighing in at only 3 ounces, it's comfortable, too.
Creating the signal
The system gets its signal from the PRO 8HEcW headworn microphone. This versatile dynamic mic works equally well for singing, speech, presentations, and other types of microphone use. Its hypercardioid pattern gives it excellent off-axis rejection and helps suppress feedback.
The results
When you hear the sound created by this combination of components you'll see that it's more than the sum of its parts. The ATW-801/H gives you what you need for hands-free vocalizing, and does it at a very reasonable price.

Features
Overview: This Audio-Technica System 8 VHF Wireless System consists of a head-worn microphone with a body-pack transmitter and a wireless receiver. The system works on Band T2 at 169.505 MHz.
Microphone: The PRO 8HEcW head-worn microphone is ideal for drummers, keyboard players, guitarists, and other musicians who need to use their hands during the performance. It has a low-visibility headband and cushioned support pads for a stable, yet comfortable fit. The Hi-ENERGY neodymium microphone element is mounted on a pivoting, flexible mic boom. You can wear the headset so that the boom descends from the left or right side. The hypercardioid polar pattern gives you optimum isolation of the wearer's vocals, while rejecting unwanted sounds. The PRO 8HEcW has a 56" straight cable with a locking 4-pin connector that plugs into the included UniPak transmitter.
Transmitter: The ATW-T801-T2 UniPak transmitter is powered by two "AA" alkaline batteries (not included), which gives you approximately 8 hours of use. The transmitter is equipped with a 4-pin input connector for connecting the included microphone or an instrument cable. The top-mounted Power/Mute button allows you to turn on/off the transmitter with a long press, or mute/unmute the microphone with a slight touch. The indicator LED glows green to show unmuted operation, glows red to indicate muted operation, and flashes to show a low-battery condition. The transmitter includes a permanently attached 15" flexible antenna. It can simply hang freely for best results. The UniPak transmitter is designed to be worn on a belt or guitar strap.
Receiver: The ATW-R800-T2 receiver operates on AC power with the included AC adapter. It has a single audio output--a 1/4" TS (Tip-Sleeve) mono phone jack. The receiver features a dipole antenna system, with two 15" retractable antennas mounted to the front panel. The antennas should be fully extended and positioned at 90° in the form of a "V" or an "L" (left antenna vertical, right antenna horizontal). Two controls are located on the back panel: a rotary volume control, and a Squelch Control (requires small screwdriver). Three LED indicators on the front include RF (showing presence of transmitter signal), Power (when AC power is supplied), and AF Peak (indicating distortion is present).
