Audio-Technica ATH-M50x folded up

The Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones are great for making or enjoying music.

Whether you're a music professional or simply a music fan, you'll be hard-pressed to find better headphones at this price than the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x. The 'M50x offers exceptionally clear sound that's detailed and well-balanced throughout its wide frequency range. The large 45mm drivers offer plenty of bass punch, while high frequencies have just the right amount of shimmer.

The closed-back design is great for tracking in the studio or enjoying your music while limiting external noise. With the same great sound as the original ATH-M50, it's no wonder these headphones have earned even more praise for their improved comfort and detachable cable options.

Ruggedly comfortable

Working musicians and DJs need headphones that survive the rigors of constant use. The 'M50x headphones were designed with durability in mind, with premium materials that keep these headphones from self-destructing after just a few recording sessions. They also offer improved comfort over the original 'M50s, with thick padding on the headband, soft foam on the earcups, and a swiveling design that helps them conform to your head. The earcups can rotate a full 90 degrees, so you can use them for single-ear monitoring in the studio or the club.

Choose from three cables

The 'M50x headphones come with not one, not two, but three detachable cables. There's an extra-long straight cable for studio or home use, a coiled cable that's made for DJs or studio pros, and a shorter straight cable for listening on the go. The headphones also come with a 1/4" plug adapter, so you can connect them to pro gear or your home theater receiver or stereo.

Features

Overview: The design of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x Professional Monitor Headphones is based on the critically acclaimed ATH-M50, which has been praised by audio engineers and professional audio reviewers for years. The ATH-M50x has the same sonic signature as the M50, but adds the convenience of detachable cables, and comes with short and long straight cables and a coiled cord. The closed-back, over-the-ear design gives you excellent sound isolation in loud environments. The sturdy ATH-M50x is designed for use for studio recording or mixing, as well as DJ-ing. The ear cups swivel 90° for one-ear monitoring, and fold inward for storage in the included vinyl storage pouch.

Drivers: The large 45mm drivers are made with rare earth (neodymium) magnets and copper-clad aluminum wire voice coils, and are tuned flat for accurate sound monitoring over a wide frequency range. The professional-grade ear pads and headband pads offer comfort for many hours of continuous use.

Cable: The ATH-M50x has a single cable exit on the left ear cup with three detachable cables. A 52" straight cable, designed for use with portable devices, is terminated with a tapered 3.5mm plug. The longer straight cable is over 10 feet in length (125"), while the coiled cord extends from 3.9' to 9.8'. All of the cables have twist-lock 2.5mm sub-mini terminals at the headphone, and a 3.5mm mini plug. The included screw-on 1/4" (6.3mm) adapter works with the long straight cable and the coiled cable. This adapter is for use while you're listening to home or professional components with a full-size headphone jack.

I don't think so.

Since I have had these headphones I have not had any problems.
jonathan s  Nov 29, 2019
A
I have not had any issues with these Headphones. The cushion is soft & no show no signs of wear.
samuel r. st  Nov 29, 2019

Hi! I have had these headphones for over a year and have never had any issues in respect to the cushions or durability of the product itself. The cushions are made of a soft "leather like" fabric. I am very careful with all of my audio products and don't just toss my headphones around which may account for the "durability" issues.
robert  Nov 29, 2019
A
I found the cushions quite comfortable. I cannot speak to durability, as I have multiple headphones and have not subjected these to extensive use.
michael  Nov 29, 2019
A
No problems with the cushions, very comfortable, even on long flights

A
I have No issues with the ear cushions. But I only use them for about 2 hours a week.
michael  Nov 29, 2019
A
It is true about the complain about the cushions. They are lousy made. It just like the cushion on the 70's headphones. Instead of covered with thicker and better vinyl, it is very thin faux vinyl. They peel off the cushions as they get older. But it does not affect the sound and performance, that is the bottom line. It is a very good headphone. If you can find a replacement that is made with better materials buy them and replace those cushions. Good luck to you, and hope that this will help you.

Q
Will these work well with a smart phone? And will there be a big difference from the TurtleBeach headphones I use?
benjamin  Jan 14, 2019

A
I'm not familiar with Turtle Beach headphones and I'm not an audiophile by any means, but the ATH sound good with my phone when I want to hear something on that. They will help to eliminate other sound around you and keep the sound more to yourself (in case you like to jam). I have several headphones and would say, for me (again, not an audiophile), these stand up to the Bowers Wilkes and Vmoda headphones for sound. Better than the Sennheisers, imo, and definitely better than the "throwaway" brands I have (for using at work, where I have to hear what's going on around me). My only problem with them is that I have a small head, and these are pretty large. My Vmodas fit me better and I can wear them for hours, comfortably.

Ath m50x are a great match for a smart phone and the clarity is superb I have those and also the ath msr7's they are really good I also purchased the red dragonfly which really makes everything sound crisp and clean and the music just pops

They sound great with a smart phone. I listen to them all the time with my IPhone.
christopher  Jan 15, 2019
A
Yes they will. I use mine with my Samsung Galaxy 7 edge with no problem. As far as how they compare to the TurtleBeach, well everybody hears things differently. So what I consider a good sound doesn't mean the next person will agree. I love mine, great quality and I love the way they way they sound.

Q
How well will these work with a smart phone, using highest quality download on Spotify? Will there be a big difference from the TurtleBeach headphone I currently use?
benjamin  Jan 14, 2019

A
I also have premium Spotify ath m50x are great with that you will enjoy them
anthony  Jan 15, 2019
A
These are monitoring headphones for mixing and recording. When you use these to listening to music directly plugged into your phone or computer, it will sound flat. You will need to use a headphone amp if you plan on listening through your phone. I do use these to listen to music on the computer, but not with out an equalizer app to boost/enhance the sound.
robin  Jan 15, 2019
A
I can't tell you if these are better than your TurtleBeach headphones. But I can say that these require no headphone amplifier to sound good. I listen to these on my samsung note 4 and iphone 7. The highs and lows are a bit exaggerated. I tend to like my headphones sounding more flat. Still, I can definitely say these headphones are very fun and enjoyable to listen to. Most music (rock and pop) sounds good. Some music sounds a little too bright.

Q
Where is this product made from? How many colors do you carry and are they authentic?
sam  Feb 15, 2017

A
The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x are only offered in black at this time and (like every product we carry) these are 100% authentic, and come directly from the manufacturer with a full warranty included. The country of origin for the product is listed as Taiwan. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. Hope that helps!
