We took the RIVA S (pictured in black) out to a nearby lake in Charlottesville, VA to add tunes to a nice fall day.
We had a chance to check out the RIVA S portable Bluetooth speaker recently, and had some serious fun in the process. This compact little gem packs a serious sonic punch with its 30 watts of power. And it has some innovative features.
Three proprietary built-in speakers positioned left, center and right create a spacious soundfield. You'll enjoy your music with plenty of detail and clean, clear sound. Don't worry — the RIVA S delivers plenty of bass through its dual passive radiators. Activate the Trillium™ Surround feature and experience immersive simulated surround sound — great for movies and games.
Bluetooth with aptX®
The RIVA S features aptX, an advanced type of Bluetooth wireless streaming. It allows compatible devices to send audio signals to the speaker at near-CD quality. The system also works with earlier forms of Bluetooth. So you can play your music wirelessly from almost any portable device.
Love vinyl? So does the RIVA S
Here's something you can't do with just any Bluetooth speaker — connect a turntable to it. The RIVA S has a Phono Mode that adds 9dB gain to the signal. That means you can use the RIVA S as your turntable's speaker — no separate preamp required. And the RIVA S comes with a stereo RCA-to-stereo minijack adapter cable to make the connection.

Simple control
Another innovative feature is the speaker's built-in proximity sensor. Just wave your hand over it to wake the system up from power-saving sleep mode. The capacitive sensing buttons are activated by the slightest touch — you don't have to press hard.
You can also control the RIVA S directly from your smartphone or tablet with the free RIVA Audio control app. The app also lets you adjust EQ settings, and monitor battery life
Smartphone-friendly
Accept calls through the RIVA S from your paired smartphone. The system has built-in dual microphones with noise and echo canceling technology, ensuring crystal-clear conversations. A USB charging port in the rear lets you keep your smartphone charged while you're listening to music, so it's always at the ready.
Mix and match
With the RIVA S you have some serious sound options. You can pair two RIVA S speakers to create a two-channel stereo system. Or you can pair two different devices to a single RIVA S — so you and a friend can take turns being the DJ. Play nicely, now.
Portable and convenient
The system's built-in rechargeable battery can deliver over 13 hours of operation — more than enough for most parties! The RIVA S is also splash-resistant, so you can use it poolside, or even in the shower (just not in the tub). And the RIVA S comes ready for action with its ballistic nylon carrying case, lined with velvet to absorb bumps and shocks. Bluetooth: The Riva S speaker features built-in Bluetooth with support for multi-device pairing, wireless music streaming, and hands-free speakerphone.
- Wireless Audio Streaming: You'll be able to wirelessly stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device to the Riva S speaker system. You also get Play/Pause and Previous/Next Track controls from the Riva Audio App on your Apple iOS or Android devices. The unit supports SBC, AAC (for Apple iOS), and aptX (for Android) audio codecs.
- Speakerphone: The Riva S speaker can act as a speakerphone for your Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone, thanks to its built-in dual-microphone with noise & echo cancellation. In addition to the noise & echo cancellation, the Riva S's automatic teleconferencing EQ setting maximizes the midrange to deliver better voices. Use the built-in mic to carry on your side of the conversation while the other party is heard through the speakers of the Riva S. Incoming calls will ring through the Riva S speaker and you can answer/end/reject a call from the Bluetooth speaker. You'll still need to use your phone to make calls and the audio will automatically be transferred to the Riva S speaker system.
- Multi-Device Pairing + Party Mode: The Riva S speaker system will pair with most Bluetooth-enabled devices such as Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC, Mac computers, and more (up to 8 devices total). You can even connect two devices at once to the Riva S speaker for multi-user control.
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Riva S.
7 Drivers + 3-Channel Amplifier: The Riva S Bluetooth speaker features three front-firing 1.5" full-range proprietary drivers and four ADX custom dual-piston bass radiators (two side-firing/two rear-firing). The three full-range drivers are powered by a proprietary ADX 3-channel amplifier rated at 30 watts RMS.
ADX Trillium Audio Technology: Trillium is ADX's proprietary audio technology that enlarges audio image while allowing the signal power of the audio to be reproduced without excessive compression. TrueWireless Stereo Pairing: Take your sound to the next level by syncing two RIVA S speakers wirelessly to create right and left channel stereo.
IPX4 Water Resistant: IPX4 certification offers protection of the RIVA S Bluetooth speaker from the splashing of water from any direction. The speaker is water resistant and not water proof. It cannot be submerged in water or any other liquid.
Aux Input w/ Phono Mode: In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the Riva S speaker system is fitted with a rear-panel 3.5mm aux input to connect most analog audio devices with a headphone or analog audio output. If you are connecting a turntable with a built-in or external phono preamp, the Riva S speaker's Phono Mode adds up to 9 dB of gain to the speaker's output and provides a clean, uncompressed signal.
USB charging Port: You can charge your smartphone or tablet by connecting your device's USB cable to the Riva S speaker's rear-panel USB (type-A) charging port; rated at 5V/1A.
