About the Auralex SubDude-HT™

Dave Bar

Clean up your bass

Vibrating floors, walls, and ceilings add a lot of "mud" to the sound of your music and movie soundtracks. Placing an Auralex SubDude-HT under your subwoofer can clean up a boatload of those unwanted rattles, resonances, and sonic colorations by decoupling your sub from the floor.
Auralex SubDude-HT

The Auralex SubDude-HT isolation platform effectively decouples your subwoofer from the floor for cleaner, tighter bass.

This stylish sound-absorbing sandwich of velour-covered MDF and Auralex's proprietary sound isolation foam helps prevent sound coming from your sub from being transferred through the floor. You'll get cleaner, tighter bass, reduced coloration, and maybe even a thank you note from your downstairs neighbors!

The SubDude-HT's 18" x 22" platform dimension is sized perfectly for medium-to-large-sized subwoofers in home theaters, hi-fi systems, or recording studios.

Features

Subwoofer Isolation Platform: The Auralex SubDude-HT is a low-profile subwoofer isolation platform and is perfect for small subwoofers in home theaters and hi-fi systems. The SubDude-HT subwoofer isolation platform utilizes Auralex technology and carefully chosen combination of specialized materials to instantly diminish structural vibrations, resulting in cleaner and tighter bass, reduced coloration and a more accurate low-frequency response.

Sound Improvements: The SubDude-HT is an incredibly effective isolation platform that instantly improves your subwoofer's performance. This carefully engineered solution allows the true sound of your sub to come through by negating resonance artifacts.

  • Dramatically reduces structural vibrations through walls, floors & ceilings.
  • Preserves the accuracy of the original audio track.
  • Tightens bass and increases low-end clarity.

Construction: The Auralex SubDude-HT features a functionally inert 3/4", velour-covered, MDF platform supported by a 1" base layer of sturdy Auralex Platfoam that is an effective isolation boundary to decouple the subwoofer from the floor underneath. This combination of materials dramatically diminishes structural vibrations and resonances, resulting in reduced coloration, tighter bass and a perceived extension of the subwoofer's low-frequency response.

Compatibility: The Auralex SubDude-HT is great for home theater & hi-fi large-size subwoofers weighing up to 300lbs. The SubDude-HT measures 18.0625" (w) x 1.8125" (h) x 22.0625" (d).

The Auralex Guarantee: All Auralex foam products have been specially engineered for maximum acoustical performance, increased longevity, flame retardancy, and great looking aesthetics.

Q
Can you put 2 side by side and lay a large dual sub on its side on top of them?
shady  Mar 23, 2023
1 answer
A
Theoretically this would work. Our advisors would be happy to review the project in more detail. You may reach us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Hi. I have a pair of Klipsch Forte IIIs sitting on hardwood floors. Would this be a good isolation platform for speakers as well as subs? Thank you.
m  Oct 16, 2022
1 answer
A
This could absolutely be used to isolate speakers. They would likely do very well for the Forte.
zachary  Oct 16, 2022 (Staff)
Q
Is this reccomended for down firing subwoofers? Or would this muffle some of the performance considering the down firing plateform?
mike  Mar 31, 2021
5 answers
A
Mine doesn't muffle the performance and the sub still sounds great. It eliminated the rattling of the house.
brad  Apr 01, 2021
A
I have a down firing sub and the difference it makes is awesome . It takes the rattles out of the room and brings a deeper fuller bass. Well worth it.
david  Mar 31, 2021
A
It will absorb some of the bass impact dispersion so that it does not travel through walls, floors, and ceilings. The quality of the bass sound to distinguish bass guitars, drums, etc. are still enjoyable to the listening experience.
marion  Mar 31, 2021
A
I don't know if it is recommended, but I have a down firing sub on it and it sounds great. There is no muffling whatsoever.
michael  Mar 31, 2021
A
I would not recommend for a down firing sub. My sub is front firing and ported.
michael  Mar 31, 2021
Q
I ordered a SubDude to hold my Klipsch 12" subwoofer. Should I remove the "feet" from my subwoofer to maximize contact with the SubDude surface?
bruce  Jul 01, 2019
6 answers
A
It's all about decoupling your sub from the floor. To prevent unwanted vibrations from traveling through your floor keeping the feet on will help this even further.
ryan  Jul 09, 2019
A
My sub seats directly on to the SubDude, and the difference is unbelievable. I would suggest to try it both ways and make a decision.
maximo  Jul 09, 2019
A
I have the larger Subdude and the feet are still on my 85 pound Hsu VTF-3 Mk5 HP, but things tightened up nicely while getting rid of some unwanted vibrations in the living room/kitchen/dining area. Even if I removed the feet, I don't know that I would experience an appreciable difference in the Subdude's effect. Your mileage may vary.
todd  Jul 09, 2019
A
It's more about vibration absorption, giving the sub better clarity especially on tile or hardwood floors. It is also very good isolation on carpet because of its design. So no I don't think it's necessary to remove the feet.
serge  Jul 09, 2019
A
I did not removed the subwoofer feet. Is working fine
david  Jul 09, 2019
A
If the sub is bottom-firing, I would definitely not remove the feet. I have two Klipsch Sub12's on my SubDudes, and they sound great.
jim  Jul 09, 2019
Q
Will my Sunfire SDS 12 rattle off the isolator? It jumps around on my wood floor.
dalton  Aug 25, 2018
5 answers
A
No. It decouples the sub from the floor and absorbs a lot of vibrations that may travel through your hard wood floors. It does it's job for my HSU
ryan  Aug 26, 2018
A
My floor is tiles, but it does not move any where. It should not move at all
david  Aug 26, 2018
A
I have a Klipsch 300 watt 12 inch sub. It holds my sub in place even when I rattle my wall art crooked. It is well worth the money.
terry  Aug 25, 2018
A
Don't know. But my 85 pound Hsu VTF-3 Mk5 has been pushed hard and hasn't moved yet.
todd  Aug 25, 2018
A
No it will not
james  Aug 25, 2018
Q
I have Definitive Supercube 8000 and it has isolation pads on the bottom. Is the Subdude worth buying for my sub ?
jose  Aug 16, 2018
6 answers
A
I'm on a tile floor. It helped tremendously
serge  Aug 17, 2018
A
I have a 2 sub system we use to watch movies. Both subs have their original feet with isolation pads. However, with the SubDude we notice markedly less vibration from the home's structure and better enjoy THX volume of movies.
richard  Aug 17, 2018
A
Honestly, it depends on how hard you drive your subwoofer. If you drive it hard or have it close to a wall, then yes.
cleveland  Aug 16, 2018
A
Absolutely!
thomas  Aug 16, 2018
A
Yes! They hold up well even with heavy subwoofers. They make the sound from the subs sound realistic and deep. You can't go wrong with the Subdude.
gerard  Aug 16, 2018
A
I've been using these for years and I think they work better than isolation pads or feet. I would buy it for your Supercube but this is the larger Subdude and you may be able to fit your sub on the regular one. I would measure and check that before ordering.
justin  Aug 16, 2018
Q
We're placing two subwoofers in our basement TV/theater room. One will be on carpet (over the concrete floor), the other will be on vinyl plank (over the concrete floor). I'm already concerned that the subs will need to work harder for response below 25 Hz, but wondering if the Auralex Subdude-HT will help. Suggestions? Thanks!

A
Just a little different
james  Aug 25, 2018
A
I am not sure sound wise...I purchased to protect my hardwood floors. With that said my JL Audio sub sounds amazing, but I couldn't tell you if there would be any difference with the sub sitting directly on the hardwood. Again, mine is just for floor protection.
william k  Mar 12, 2018
A
I think they are great! It reduces the vibration you would normally get on tile flooring or concrete.
serge  Mar 12, 2018
Q
Hello friends, which Auralex SubDude will be better for my Velodyne SPL 1200Ultra? The HT or II? How much cost shipping to Slovakia? It is possible send it? Thanks, have a nice day, Juraj.
duri666  Mar 02, 2018
1 answer
A
We do not ship internationally; only to the U.S. and it's territories. https://www.crutchfield.com/Support/international.aspx For the U.S. version of the Velodyne SPL-1200II powered sub, the larger SubDude-HT would be required.

Q
Will my 18 " EV LEX 200 AP pwd subwoofer fit perfectly with (1) HT large platform ?
dj edwin  Dec 24, 2017
3 answers
A
The SubDude-HT measures 18.0625" (w) x 1.8125" (h) x 22.0625" (d).
serge  Dec 26, 2017
A
Can't say it will for sure it depends on how the speaker stands on its base.
david  Dec 24, 2017
A
As long as it isn't too much larger than, 18" W x 22.25" D
ronald dale  Dec 24, 2017
Q
Does this work to reduce vibrations for home speakers as well as subwoofers?
adam  Oct 22, 2017
8 answers
A
IT should work fine with speakers but has a large footprint specifically for subwoofers. I would recommend speaker isolation pads instead. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_927MOPADXL/Auralex-MoPAD-XL.html?tp=68326&omnews=13967619
surjeet  Oct 25, 2017
A
Never thought to try that but my guess is that it would. You'll need to be careful as most floor standing speakers have spikes or feet that might be unstable on one of these.
dennis  Oct 23, 2017
A
That is an excellent question and my answer would be yes. I have a 2 story home with wooden floors on the upper level with two large sub woofers. I bought one of these to see how it worked before purchasing the 2nd one. They work great and eliminated all vibrations. I actually have one of my home speakers stacked on top of one of my sub woofers. I see no reason why it would not work the same for a home speaker placed directly on top.

Yes definitely.

Yes it will. The foot print of the pad will be large for most speakers.

Yes it does

It works perfect. Improves markedly.
