Bye, bye, bulb — our first projector with advanced LED illumination

LEDs have done wonders for LCD TVs, and now they're set to revolutionize projectors. The SIM2 NERO 20th is a high-performance model with an important difference: instead of the conventional bulb-style lamp used in virtually all other projectors out there, the NERO 20th features precise, efficient, long-lasting LEDs.

Bye, bye, bulb — our first projector with advanced LED illumination

SIM2 Nero 20th projector

LEDs have done wonders for LCD TVs, and now they're set to revolutionize projectors. The SIM2 NERO 20th is a high-performance model with an important difference: instead of the conventional bulb-style lamp used in virtually all other projectors out there, the NERO 20th features precise, efficient, long-lasting LEDs.

SIM2's PureLED technology is powered by separate red, green, and blue LEDs. They produce enhanced image quality with intense yet accurate color and outstanding brightness. This trio of LEDs produces an incredibly wide color gamut — 135% of the NTSC standard. And this color performance will remain consistent over the LEDs' long lifetime. Advanced switching of the LEDs provides increased image stability.

Compared to a bulb, these LEDs are much more efficient and cool-running. Because so much less heat is generated, less cooling is required, resulting in super-quiet operation. And start-up and shut-down is as fast as with a regular TV. Another big LED bonus — while a bulb lamp is typically good for 3-4000 hours before it needs to be replaced, the LEDs in the NERO 20th are rated for 20,000 hours — that's the equivalent of watching 4 hours per day for nearly 14 years!

Digital light control

The NERO's light output is controlled by a high-speed current driver that balances the light intensity coming from the three different LED modules. The driver's ultra-fast switching speed — less than one microsecond — eliminates the typical color break-up issue (the so-called “rainbow effect”) of traditional single-chip DLP projectors that rely on a color wheel.

The crisp, clear look of DLP®

SIM2 relies on Texas Instruments' DLP imaging technology for their projectors — and so does Hollywood. Worldwide more than 85% of digital movie theater screens use DLP projection, from art houses to multiplexes. The DLP chipset in the NERO 20th provides full 1080p resolution, which, combined with top-notch video processing, enables the projector to deliver crisp, smooth and clear images.

Installation advantages

With its standard-throw lens, the NERO 20th is an excellent choice for medium- and larger-sized rooms. You can place it on a table, or ceiling-mount it with an optional bracket. Both horizontal and vertical lens shift are included for off-center projector placement. A wide 1.9X zoom range gives you a wider range of projector placement possibilities, as well as a wider range of screen size options.

For the best picture quality from any projector, we recommend using a projection screen.

Features

Front-Projector: The SIM2 NERO20th front-projector combines LED light-source illumination and DLP image technology. This combination ensures that images are bright, sharp, and realistic.

  • PureLED Technology: The NERO20th employs PureLED technology. Powered by three LEDs, the NERO20th delivers enhanced image quality with a wide color gamut, superior color saturation and outstanding brightness using separate red, blue, and green LEDS to produce intense yet accurate color. Advanced switching of theses LEDs provides increased image stability.
  • DLP (Digital Light Processing): Based on single-chip Full HD DLP technology, SIM2's NERO20th delivers high brightness, high contrast, precise and accurate color reproduction, deep black level, artifact-free motion and the ability to convey the extended depth of 3D image.

Pure Engine: The SIM2 NERO20th front-projector's  Pure Engine is a collection of advanced image processing technologies designed to enhance the quality of the displayed video images.

  • Dynamic Black (LED Brightness): The front-projector's Dynamic Black feature smoothly adjusts the light output automatically, based on the brightness information of each frame; to create a stunning 30,000:1 contrast ratio. Bright scenes are crisp and clear, while dark scenes remain detailed with deep blacks which gives exceptional light and shade detail.
  • Pure Action: The NERO20th incorporates Pure Action for a silky, smooth picture. In its lowest setting, Pure Action retains the quality look of film while maximizing the detail of very frame. In the highest setting, Pure Action virtually eliminates motion blue; perfect for fast-paced sports, where absolute fluidity is s essential.
  • Fine Detail: The front-projector's Fine Detail function uses sophisticated motion adaptive edge enhancement algorithms to ensure that all the information contained in an image is faithfully reproduces on the screen giving a crystal clear, sharp picture.
  • Vivid Color: Vivid Color provides vivid, perfectly balanced color with impeccable color uniformity for vibrant natural looking images. Vivid Color makes it possible for the NERO20th to reproduce billions of color ensuring smooth tonal transitions and subtle graduations between hues.

High Definition & Standard Definition Video Inputs: The NERO20th projector is equipped with two HDMI 1.4 inputs, a component video input, and a composite video input. The HDMI 1.4 inputs will support up to 1080p video, the component video input supports up to 1080i video, and the composite video input supports only 480i video. There is also a D-Sub, 15-pin PC input for connecting a computer.

Color Settings: Advanced color settings allow you to tailor the projector's color accuracy for the displayed source and content.

  • Color Gamut: The Color Gamut are the whole values of the primary colors (Red/Green/Blue), secondary colors (yellow/cyan/magenta), the white color coordinates, and the brightness. Choose Native, HDTV, LCD, Color, or Cinema SIM2.
  • CMS (Color Management System): Get perfectly calibrated picture quality most fitting to the physical setting of your room. The NERO20th comes equipped with a full color management system, giving you the flexibility to choose between 5 preset color gamuts (Native,  HDTV, SMPTE-C, and Cinema SIM2); 6 color temperatures (D50, D65, D83, D93, and Native); or alternatively, fine tune intensity and x/y coordinates of primary and secondary colors for ultimate calibration precision.
  • Color Space: Color Space determines the signal data range of HDMI signals. Select an appropriate color matrix type from Auto, RGB (0-255), RGB (16-235), or YUV.

Display Format: This adjustment changes the dimensions and aspect ratio of the displayed image. There are six aspects ratios available. You can select a different aspect for each source. The select aspect ratio will be automatically applied the next time the relative source is displayed. Choose from 16:9, 4:3, Letterbox, Native, or Auto.

Flexible Mounting Options: The NERO20th can be table-top mounted (upright) or ceiling mounted (inverted). The projector features adjustable feet to level the unit when table-top mounting it. The ceiling-mount bracket is sold separately. The front-projector provides additional features (see below) that help make installation easier.

  • Lens Shift: The combination of the manual adjustment of Lens Shift (+/-10%H, +/-60%V)  and a wide 1.9x zoom range enables a wider range of projector placement possibilities. This combination makes it easier to position the projector in your viewing room and allows a wider range of screen size options.
