Extend your home network using your power lines
Extend your home network using your power lines
The Powerline 500 kit uses your existing AC wiring to extend your high-speed network from one room to another.
My home was built in 1920 and has thick plaster walls that make Wi-Fi® coverage a real challenge. Streaming Netflix in my living room with my Roku is nearly impossible because the wireless signal is weak and drops out. Sure, I could drill holes in the floors or walls and run Ethernet cables across the house. But shouldn't a fast, reliable network be easier? Well, now it is thanks to the Netgear Powerline 500. This two-piece kit uses the AC power lines in your wall to extend your router's hard-wired Ethernet connection from one room to another. The kit includes everything you need to enjoy fast Internet without opening the toolbox.
How it works
Simply plug one module into a power outlet near your router and connect it to an Ethernet port with the included cable. Then, plug in the other module in a room where you want high-speed Internet access and connect your device to it. Just like that, you have extended your network without any tricky in-wall wire installation.
Extend your wireless network too
You can also use the Powerline 500 to create a wireless access point when used with a Wi-Fi range extender. Simply feed the '500's output into the extender and you'll have a robust wireless network in that part of the house. You'll enjoy fast, reliable Internet with all of your wireless devices.
