The Master & Dynamic MW60 wireless over-ear headphones have a design that doesn't scream for attention, but boy do they earn it. These handsome headphones are right in my wheelhouse — delightfully retro looking and old-school functional with state-of-the-art performance. Music plays wirelessly from your compatible phone or tablet. A built-in aluminum antenna keeps the Bluetooth connection strong and the headphones sound as rich and robust as they look.
Some audio heads knock Bluetooth headphones. They say there's no way they can live up to a set of wired, over-the-ear cans. Well, the MW60 headphones present an intimate, detailed soundstage that drops you deep into your favorite tunes. Personally, I'd put them up there with some of the heavy-hitter wired headphones I've been listening to lately.
I took a stroll with these super-impressive Bluetooth headphones
Master & Dynamic's care and attention were immediately evident when I opened up the MW60's padded, leather storage case. Along with the headphones, I found another leather case, smaller and packed with two cloth-covered cables: A USB charging cord and a miniplug cable (for times you want to listen wired). It was all neatly packaged and complete.
I paired up wirelessly to my phone and listened to the recently remastered version of Fleetwood Mac's Tusk. I could pick out all kinds of funky, quirky details from the experimental studio session, highlighted best on the title track's sonic smorgasbord. But where the headphones really took off and sailed was on the included live tracks from Wembley stadium in 1980. I could practically feel the onstage energy — and perhaps an undercurrent of tension — from a band that was on top of the world and hitting on all cylinders. Tight riffs, powerful vocals, heat from the crowd. The MW60 headphones spread out the whole immediate, hectic scene around me.
Form-fitting and softly padded
To keep external sound from creeping in, the headphones have a snug fit, thanks to the flexible leather headband. It's certainly not a vise-grip — more like a nice new pair of shoes. I appreciated the fit as I went through my day. The headphones stayed put and never slipped around. To keep your head and ears pampered, the earcups are made of soft lambskin leather and cushioned with memory foam.
Easy to transport with on-ear controls for music and calls
The MW60 headphones fold up at their stainless steel hinges, creating a portable bundle that slips into a zippered cloth case. (That's right, a third included case). And there are three simple controls on the right earcup, further catering to those of us on the go. You can adjust the volume and play or pause music. If a call comes through, a built-in omnidirectional mic lets you answer and talk with clarity.

Overview: The Master & Dynamic MW60 over-ear Bluetooth wireless headphones are crafted of forged aluminum and stainless steel components, with heavy grain premium cowhide and soft lambskin on the headband and ear pads. The MW60s come with a straight audio cable that you can use when the battery is depleted, and a Micro USB charging cable. When not in use, you can fold the headphones and store them in the supplied canvas pouch, and your cables in the cloth pouch or leather cable box.
Bluetooth: The MW60s feature Bluetooth 4.1 wireless technology with a patent-pending antenna that gives you the best-in-class signal connectivity range. The antenna is made of machined aluminum, and is integrated into the frame of the left earcup. In addition to wireless convenience, AptX delivers high-quality audio.
On-board Controls: The active headphone controls are located on the left and right ear cups. The left ear cup has a three-way slide switch that lets you turn the headphones on or off, and pair to your smartphone or Bluetooth audio player. On the right ear cup, the Multi-Function Button (MFB), flanked by the Volume + and Volume - buttons, control music playback and phone call functions. These functions are compatible with Apple (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch) and Android devices. The functions include: Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, Answer/Hang up call, Next Track, Previous Track, and Voice Commands.
Drivers: The MW60s are equipped with 45mm neodymium drivers. These high-performance drivers, along with oxygen-free copper cables, deliver superb sound quality. The headphones are tuned to accommodate a diversity of musical tastes.
Ear Pads/Headband: The ear pads are made with memory foam, covered in soft lambskin for superior comfort and breathability. The ear pads are removable for cleaning or replacement, and attach to the ear cups with magnets. The headband features heavy grain premium cowhide on the outside and lambskin on the inside.
Rechargeable Battery: The MW60 Bluetooth headphones are powered by a rechargeable battery with a 16-hour battery life. The battery is charged when the headphones are plugged into a USB port via the supplied Micro USB cable. The headphone cannot be used when the Micro USB is plugged in.
Supplied Cables: The MW60 headphones come with a 53" tangle-resistant woven audio cable with straight 3.5mm plugs that are compatible with many smartphone cases. A snap-on 3.5mm-to-6.3mm (1/4") adapter is provided for use with home components. When the audio cable is plugged into the left ear cup, the headphones are powered off and the microphone disabled during the passive mode. A 45" woven Micro USB cable is provided for charging the internal battery.
