Memphis Audio 15-M612D4 12" Dual 4-ohm Component Subwoofer

120 ounces of magnet makes for powerful bass.

Ready to pound

Memphis Audio created the M6 Series 15-M612D4 12" subwoofer for high-performance bass reproduction. The fiberglass reinforced cone offers exceptional rigidity so it maintains accuracy at high levels, while its double-stitched rubber surround helps to maximize and control excursion. The vented cast aluminum basket keeps things cool, and virtually eliminates resonances that can color your bass.

Handles plenty of power

The 2.5" dual 4-ohm voice coils combine with a 120-ounce magnet to handle up to 700 watts RMS, so make sure you feed this sub plenty of power. The dual 4-ohm voice coils allow you to wire the sub for 2 or 8 ohms for system flexibility.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features two 4Ω voice coils, allowing impedance flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.

Terminals: The two sets of spring post terminals are on the same side of the subwoofer. They will accommodate bare speaker wire up to 10 gauge. They will also accommodate many single banana plugs, but the post is slightly recessed, so some single banana plugs will not fit well. The binding posts are spaced too far apart to accept standard dual banana plugs (¾").

Sealed Box Volume: Memphis Audio recommends a sealed box volume of 1.5 ft³. A sealed enclosure design gives the smoothest response with increased energy at the lowest frequencies.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume is 2.75 ft³ with a 12½" x 2¼" x 19" slot port; this yields a tuning frequency of 38 Hz. Ported (or vented) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed, maximizing bass output for a given amplifier.

Q
Would Rockford fosgate 500 watt prime push this sub?
jason  Apr 27, 2018
2 answers
A
Im pushing 700 watts to this speaker and feel like I could probably put a little more. FYI running a JBL GTR-1001 amp wired in 4 ohm with a Qbomb ported box and this speaker sounds awesome. Rep told me this is not a traditional 4 ohm speaker as it would be better wired as 2 ohm. Hope this helps
josh  Apr 28, 2018
A
Yes in my opinion it would but honestly if you have the means for more watts hit it hard

Q
What amp is the best for this sub?
lazarus  Mar 16, 2018

A
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
What is the exact displacement of the speaker?
gavin  Oct 09, 2016
1 answer
A
The displacement is roughly 0.07 cu. ft. Memphis Audio recommends a sealed box volume of 1.5 cu. ft. or ported box volume of 2.18 cu. ft. with a 12-1/2" x 2-1/4" x 19" slot port for the best performance out of the 15-M612D4 subwoofer. I hope that helps!

Q
Wondering how good the quality of bass this sub produces ?
hayden  Sep 23, 2016
1 answer
A
Memphis Audio designed the M6 Series 12" subwoofer with high-performance bass as the main priority--it uses a fiberglass-reinforced cone and double-stitched rubber surround to ensure durability and maximize low-end production. It can also handle plenty of wattage from an external amplifier (up to 700 watts RMS); and when properly powered, it will add some outstanding bass quality to your car's audio system. If you would like to discuss further, feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. I hope that helps!

Q
Recommended sealed enclosure?
devontae  Mar 16, 2016
1 answer
A
This woofer can be used in either a sealed or ported enclosure. 1.5 cubic feet of airspace is recommended for the sealed option; 2.7 cubic feet for ported. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
