Bass made for the Plug and Play system

Helix makes the PP7E subwoofer to deliver great bass when you upgrade your vehicle's factory sound system with a PP50DSP or PP52DSP processor and amplifier. The PP7E rocks with twin 7" subs in a vented enclosure that's compact enough to fit in most vehicles, yet strong enough to broadcast some impressive bass.

Proprietary cable included

The PP7E comes with a 15.75-foot PP-SC4 cable that connects the sub to your PP50DSP or PP52DSP processor. You'll need the cable to connect this enclosure, since its two subs contain four separate voice coils, each powered by its own amp channel in the processor.

Helix Plug and Play upgrade system

The Helix PP7E subwoofer works with the PP50DSP
processor and a vehicle-specific harness (not shown).

Product Highlights:

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Surprising Low End

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am pleasantly surprised at the low end this enclosure with 2 small 6.5" speakers can produce as I expected less. Now, I like my music clean, clear and tight. Put some Eagles Hotel California on and I am in heaven. It is a vented enclosure and is not as tight as I would like it and a bit muffled but impressive none the less. I am only giving it 4 stars for this reason and the fact that Helix is not giving us USA customers the options it actually has in the EU. They have lots of enclosures to choose from and I would have certainly chose otherwise but since this was my ONLY option I had to give it a shot. I am hoping Crutchfield & Helix pays attention to these reviews and might stock more options in the future.

Pros: Incredibly easy to install and very well priced. Build quality is top notch and impressive. Not too bad for two 6.5 inch subwoofers.

Cons: Bass is not as tight and a bit muffled and they overstate the size of the subs (Crutchfield does a great job and gives you a heads up about this discrepancy).

Insufficient Bass Range or Volume

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

- Did I notice an improvement in bass volume? Yes. However, the bass adjustment must still be above nominal to really hear it. - Did I notice a difference in range? Yes. However, you can tell that these small speakers have a very difficult time reaching below the 80dB range. As the pitch drops, so does the volume. this system automatically filters out sounds below 100dB and saves these lower notes for the sub. - Conclusion: All my other car audio systems are entirely pre-amped and typically cost 4 times the amount of this system. With that said, the ONLY reason to go this avenue is if you MUST save the stock stereo. Otherwise, you are much better off to purchase a new head unit, amps, and aftermarket subs and speakers. The sound will be clearer and the bass much more responsive. In addition, the separate bass speakers are barely enough to fill a small truck cab. If you installed the sub in a car trunk, you couldn't probably hear it whatsoever.

Pros: Ease of Installation, Size

Cons: Volume, Range

Great Product

I love this sub, it offers clear sound and is so easy to install. I love the fact that the specialized cable keeps the power and audio neat and clean looking.

Pros: Easy to install, clear sound, sturdy box

Cons: Not enough amp selection due to the pro proprietary cable.

Great sound!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would recommend this to a friend. I purchased the Helix PP50DSP and later added this subwoofer. I had a lot of problems with the PP50DSP, which I wrote about in my review of that item. This subwoofer provides solid punch to the low end.

Pros: Reasonable cost, great sound, and easy installation with the plug and play harness.

Cons: This product will not cause damage to your trunk from overpowering sound vibrations. People will not notice that your vehicle approaching from ten miles away. If you are looking for something like that, you will not be satisfied.

Product Research

Overview: The PP 7E subwoofer is designed as an easy addition to the HELIX PP50 DSP plug and play digital signal processor/amplifier. The included PP-SC 4 cable connects the proprietary input terminal on the PP 7E to the subwoofer port on the PP50 DSP. The PP50 DSP powers the PP 7E subwoofer and is required for its use.

Driver Size: HELIX describes the size of the two subwoofers as 7" on their web site and on a sticker on the back of the enclosure. On the packing box they are described as 6-1/2". The speakers' frame diameter is similar to 6-3/4" car speakers.

Impedance: Both subwoofers have dual 2Ω voice coils. Each of the four voice coils is wired separately to the proprietary Molex input terminal.

Customer Q&A

I do not have specifics on the damage to the sub I'm afraid. Our scratch and dent items have some type of minor cosmetic damage, nothing that would affect the products performance, and the items come with the full manufactures warranty. [ Krissy  Jun 13, 2015 ]  Staff
