About the Rydeen DVA6

Dave Delamere

Far from just a car stereo

Trying to get your favorite app in your ride? Rydeen's DVA6 receiver merges the convenience of a multimedia car stereo with the intuitive control of an Android™-based tablet. You get a big helping of receiver features like three USB inputs, an SD card slot, Bluetooth®, built-in navigation, and DVD playback, but the DVA6 also enables you to load your favorite Google Play store apps on a 6.2" touchscreen display for easy access and control. With a compatible iPhone® or Android, you can also use voice commands for basic controls over the selected app.

Rydeen DVA6

Add your favorite navigation, music, and social apps to the touchscreen for easy access.

Add Google Play® apps

Instead of tying up your Android phone with a bunch of apps you'll only use when you're in the car, you can load lots of cool Google Play store apps directly on the DVA6's 8GB of memory. You can also use ones that the DVA6 has onboard, such as YouTube®, iHeartRadio®, Pandora®, Facebook®, and even Gmail® to check emails when you're parked. Just like your phone, they're all available with a simple swipe using the touchscreen display or by using the DVA6's voice controls.

You can access Internet apps by connecting the included Wi-Fi dongle to one of the rear USB inputs and linking to your Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone or mobile hotspot (data plan charges will apply). Using a USB input, you can also load software updates to keep the DVA6 ready for the future.

Which way do I go?

Rydeen DVA6 with navigation app

Let one of the navigation apps show you the way.

Once you connect the included GPS antenna, the DVA6 offers built-in navigation apps like Waze® and Google Maps®, which give you turn-by-turn directions to your destination. You can follow the action on the big display as you listen to the voice prompts over your car's speakers. Use your fingers to manipulate the capacitive touchscreen and make the maps appear the way you like.

Bluetooth versatility

The DVA6's ready to connect to your smartphone with Bluetooth, giving you instant access to your phone book. You'll see all caller info on the display. The built-in microphone allows for easy-to-follow conversations without taking your hands off the wheel, and Rydeen also includes an external microphone you can install for better clarity in noisier vehicles. Want to stream music? The DVA6 works with just about any Bluetooth smartphone.

The audio and video goods

You can watch your favorite DVDs on the built-in screen whenever you're parked, or send movies to a rear-seat screen when you're on the move. This Rydeen includes a front A/V input, so you can add a portable video player or video game console as well. The rear camera input lets you connect a backup camera, so the screen will show the camera feed when your vehicle is in reverse — a great feature when backing up a larger vehicle.

On the audio side, you can stock up on MP3 and WMA music stored on your DVDs, USB drives, or SD cards for the longest road trips. You can even create one massive playlist from the music on your USB, SD, and MicroSD memory. You can also play your high-res WAV and FLAC files when using a compatible app, like the Poweramp Music Player®. Need a taste of yesteryear? You can tune in the sensitive AM/FM tuner or slide in a CD for a bit of nostalgic ear candy.

Setting the tone

You can select one of the seven preset EQ settings, or you can use the 12-band parametric equalizer to adjust the tone for your separate audio sources. The DVA6 also provides five 2-volt RCA preamp outputs, which let you connect outboard amps for better performance. You can go deeper by tweaking crossover points and the output level for your subwoofer.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain your steering wheel audio controls when you install this car stereo. We'll show you the adapters that work with this receiver when you add it to your Cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

6.2" Capacitive Touchscreen Display: The Rydeen DVA6 features a high-resolution WVGA (800 x 480) 6.2" capacitive touchscreen display. This capacitive touchscreen requires less pressure, responds faster, and can recognize multiple touch points simultaneously; all advantages when compared to traditional resistive touchscreen displays.

    • Customized Home Menu: You can customize the head unit's home screen so your favorite and most used applications are front and center.
    • Wallpapers: You can select from a wide variety of pre-installed wallpapers for the background of the touchscreen display. Or, you can select from one of your stored images in your photo gallery.
    • Brightness: You can adjust the touchscreen display's overall brightness for better visibility for day and night time driving.

Note: In addition to the unit's LCD touchscreen controls, the DVA6 also features five hard-key controls on the left edge of the screen (including a 3-way rotary audio control, plus four push-button control). You can switch between Blue or Red illumination for the hard-key controls.

Voice Control: The Rydeen DVA6 offers voice control through its built-in Google Voice Search app, plus via Siri on your iPhone or Talk Assistant on your Android smartphone.

    • Google Voice Search: Google's Voice Search application is integrated into the Rydeen DVA6. Google Voice Search quickly searches your contacts, the web, and nearby locations by speaking, instead of typing. Now, you can call your contacts or get directions without having to type in a phone number or address; just say where you want to go or who you want to call/text.
    • Smartphone Assistants: The DVA6 supports Siri (for select Apple iOS devices) and Talk Assistant (for select Android smartphones) via a paired Bluetooth connection. When speaking through the head unit's external microphone your voice will be transferred to the phone's Siri or Talk Assistant application. Your smartphone will then process the data and search the relative information on its local memory or the Internet, and then transfer the result back through the head unit's speakers. Your Apple iOS device with Siri or Android smartphone with Talk Assistant must be connected to the DVA6 via Bluetooth and have access to the Internet.

Remote Control: The Rydeen DVA6 receiver offers remote control capability via the included IR remote and supports factory steering wheel control integration (interface adapter may be required).

    • IR Remote: The Rydeen DVA6 comes supplied with a 44-button IR remote control which provides wireless operation of the digital media receiver.
    • SWC-Ready: The DVA6 offers built-in steering wheel remote compatibility for non-CAN Bus vehicles (the three SWC wires of the harness will need to be hardwired to vehicle's wiring). You can configure the steering wheel remote commands from the unit's touchscreen. The head unit's OEM steering wheel remote control input is also compatible with PAC's optional steering wheel audio control adapter (541SWIRC, sold separately) for CAN Buss vehicles. Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car to see if your vehicle is compatible.

Parking Brake Detection: For safety reasons, you cannot view a video source on the built-in monitor as long as the vehicle is in motion. In order to display video, the head unit's parking brake wire (orange) must be hardwired into the vehicle's parking brake light circuit, and the vehicle's parking brake must be engaged.

Note: The Rydeen DVA6 enables some features that may not be safe to operate while the vehicle is moving. Practice safe driving and use only the functions that are designed for a vehicle in motion. It is against the law in many states to watch video in the front seat while driving.

Hi, I bought this radio last year. I don't have it anymore, so I don't recall if it had that function or not. But, you need to know that I returned it because the boot-up time was tooooo long. Almost 2 minutes. I contacted crutchfield and Raydeen (they are in California) about the boot-up time and they told me, that is in the programming of the radio so they cannot change that function. I really liked the radio, but I could not stand the long wait to use it every time I turned it on.

I'm not sure, i will look at it to see if it does. Are you referring to the music increasing as your speed and ambient noise increasing? And decreasing as you come to a stop?

Since "sometime" late last Fall the unit doesn't ship with the dedicated GPS MicroSD slot anymore. Rydeen itself doesn't provide the maps. They really expect you to have data service and get maps via Google Maps. You can get the Sygic App (basic for free, upgrade through end of Month for $30 lifetime updates) which works pretty good stand alone and in areas without cell coverage. I am returning my unit because it takes 30 seconds to boot EVERY time (you could get around that with a remote start) and because I don't have a 3G data plan. My unit DID have a GPS slot if you wanted to ask Crutchfield to hold it for you.

Does the raido support OBD via bluetooth?

The Rydeen DVA6 is equipped with built-in Bluetooth, allowing you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit. You wouldn't be able to access your vehicle's ODB port via Bluetooth though. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

I bought this radio last year. I don't have it anymore.

Software, similar to GPS/navigation devices loading saying "don't look at this while you're driving," and "We take no responsibility for map inaccuracies." The concept for this is nice, and I REALLY REALLY want to like, but it's far too buggy and Rydeen seems to have less that adequate service/support. Gripe list: The default media player is not application aware, like others are. It plays and will continue to play until you pause it, sometimes twice. Pandora, YouTube, MediaMonkey silence themselves when they sense that they have lost focus as the media playing device. Every other day the same apps are updated, reupdated and rereupdated. Reading/cataloging of USB cards is archaically slow

does the video output display all onscreen video or just DVD and screen. I'm looking for one that can display output to a second larger screen via RCA or HDMI? Others only would display DVD or the backup camera.

Yes, it displays all output on the secondary screen. No way to split the outputs, so if the head unit is showing navigation, the secondary screen will mirror that image.

I don't know. The literature would suggest that you can do this through RCA jacks, but I have not tried it.

Will the DVD players screen also be shown on rear video monitors?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, it sure will. You can watch DVDs on the built-in screen whenever you're parked and also send movies to a rear-seat screen when you're in motion. This unit has a front A/V input, so you can add a portable video player or video game console as well. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Yes, it does. Remember you need an active wifi signal or you can also, activate the cellular feature in the phone; by connecting it to its own cellular account. The radio is enabled with some cellular companies. FYI. I don't own this radio anymore. The bootup time is almost 2 minutes. I did not have the patience to wait every time I turn the radio on.
