The horizontal design makes it easy to place on bookshelves, too. And it's flexible — a pair of these speakers is exceptional as front left and right speakers in a small home theater setup, or as high-quality surrounds for Bose home theater in a large room.

Driver Technology

Direct/Reflecting Speaker Technology: Direct/Reflecting speaker technology can recreate the ratio of reflected and direct sound similar to what you hear at a live concert. As a result, you experience the power, impact and emotion of a live performance in your home.

Stereo Everywhere Speaker Performance: Because many conventional speakers radiate sound directly into the room, you hear balanced stereo sound only in one small "sweet spot." Using patented Bose Direct/Reflecting speaker technology, the Direct/Reflecting speakers deliver a natural balance of reflected and direct sound. You hear balanced stereo sound almost anywhere in the room.

Long-excursion 8" Woofers: The long-excursion 8" woofers allow you to experience the remarkable effects of the lowest notes and balanced sound throughout the listening area.

Stereo Targeting Tweeters: These proprietary 2" drivers are engineered to direct mid to high frequencies to a wide, stable area between the speakers. Used in the Bose 301 Series V, they help create a sense of lifelike spaciousness and let you hear full stereo throughout the listening area.

Rear-firing Tweeters: A rear-firing tweeter sends sound from the back and side of each speaker for a balance of reflected and direct sound that is spacious and natural, like a live performance.

Enclosure Design

Tuned Port Enclosures: The unique port geometry enables cleaner and deeper performance for lower notes, particularly at high volumes.

Mounting Options

Wall Mounting: There is no insert for a universal wall mounting bracket, Bose recommends using only their WB-3 wall mount brackets.

Placement: These speakers were designed to be positioned horizontally and should not be placed vertically.

Q
Are these the same speakers that I hear and see in so many bars?
steve  Mar 30, 2020
1 answer
A
I'm not a bar person but I have a 21 ft × 30 ft living room with cathedral ceiling. I have 301s in front and 201s in rear with 12 inch sub for low end and definitely fills the room.
steve  Mar 30, 2020
Q
Can these 301 speakers be converted to wireless?
sue  Mar 22, 2020
2 answers
A
I don't think so. They do not have any bluetooth capability.
michael t  Mar 22, 2020
A
no these are just speakers, real good ones but wireless would require a few more pieces, power supply and receiver?
alma  Mar 22, 2020
Q
Can these be hung from the ceiling without overhauling the speaker?
steve  Feb 03, 2020
3 answers
A
No provision s made by the manufacturer for hanging from ceiling. I have hung the model 201 from the ceiling using chains in one installation thirty years ago and it is still in use. Please remember that these speakers are heavy and some caution to ensure safety should be used.
michael t  Feb 03, 2020
A
No there are no hangers on the speaker and you would need to add your own.
john  Feb 03, 2020
A
I used the Bose brackets to hang mine on a wall in my garage. The brackets fit pre-determined holes on the back of the speaker. I am unsure of how you would mount from the ceiling.
michael  Feb 03, 2020
Q
Are these speakers magnetically shielded?
shane  Sep 16, 2019

I do not believe so. I utilize them in my finished garage. Excellent quality and sound.

Hi I have my 301s hooked up for Tony channel stereo I use them for stereo music mainly . I would recommend you call Crutchfield tech-support as I'm sure they'd be able to help you
bruce  Feb 20, 2017
A
Although I am not that familiar with center channels on home theatre sys. but don't think they are meant as solo center channel speaker. The way I have them is that they are coupled to a vintage Kenwood KR -6050 reciever I've owned since new in 1980 and the bass is amazing for a bookshelf type speaker deal. I spent the dough on the Bose stands as well for them matching. But I do love their sound for a lower cost range bookshelf. I've Bos 901s too and OLD vintage Pioneer CS 88A's which just flat out rock. I joust back and forth over the 901's with my buddy. He thinks they are the cat's meow, I feel they are a bit pitching and bass is slightly lacking. I do not run any subwoofers as I do not believe in them. Hope this helps. Any other questions I am glad to help.

I have a soundbar sitting in front of my TV. I am looking for speakers to sit behind me. I have a surround sound receiver. Will these speakers fit my needs?

A
I have a much older version of the 301's and I use them for this exact purpose. They do a great job as rear's in providing a depth of field for the surround sound of a good movie. You should be pleased.
barry  Dec 19, 2014
A
Rhonda, I have used the Bose 301's as additional speakers on a 600 watt Sony surround system in my 24x30 home theater. Very clean, great frequency response...great performers for the price. BTW now using them as stereo speakers and cant believe the terrific bass out of such relatively small units.
william j  Dec 17, 2014
A
They sure will! That is how I use them at the bar. They sound great and can always be used as your mains if you ever changed it up down the road.

Q
Do I need to purchase a subwoofer or a center speaker with the Bose 301V ?
pauline  Dec 12, 2013
10 answers
A
The Bose 301 has an 8" woofer in each speaker, so bass is pretty good. Would recommend the 301 over the 201 if you want bass, as the 201 only has a 6.5" woofer
vincent  Apr 09, 2014
A
Hi Pauline, the Bose 301V don't need a subwoofer or a center speaker. They sound great to me and all good.... smile :) gap
gerry  Dec 13, 2013
A
No subwoofer or center speaker needed with these speakers. The sound is rich, clear and full. When I first purchased them, I was listening to talk radio at low volume, & I left the room for a while. When I passed the room sometime later I was frightened out of my wits because I had forgotten I left the system on, & it sounded like actual people were in my living room having a conversation! I can drive the speakers at a high volume & still no distortion. Also crystal clear at low volume. Listening to a digitally re-mastered CD is the closest sound to a live performance you can get. Worth every penny. The Bose 301 series is by far the best speakers I've ever owned. Also I guess it also depends on what type of receiver you own. I have an RX-797.
quincy r  Dec 13, 2013
A
I purchased my Bose 301's strictly for music listening. In that regard, I would say a center speaker is not necessary but a subwoofer would be greatly desired. The 301's are great high end, fairly good mid-range but not much on the bass - and I LOVE bass. In general I am happy with the 301's.
richard d  Dec 13, 2013

I also have a Samsung TV. Do you have a Bose sound bar? If not what brand and do you like the sound?
pauline  Dec 12, 2013
A
We have the speakers connected to a new receiver system we had installed. They are in a large living room, on a shelf unit on each side of our fireplace. There are no central speakers or subwoofer connected to it. We do have an additional and separate sound bar connected to our Samsung TV with a subwoofer, but they are separate units. The new Bose speakers are great! Our radio (local and internet) as well as a Bose wave radio and CD player sound wonderful with them.
linda l  Dec 12, 2013
A
I bought 4 , dont think you need a sub woofer at all because they bounce off the back walls , my amp will give more base than I need or want . I would recommend the stands the offer look good and work well
charles m  Dec 12, 2013
A
Hi If you want to use it with soround sound system then yes minimum 5.1 channels speakers That's 2 front one center 2 rear and the point one is the sub. If just for regular stereo music listening this are great too(2 channels) I'm currently using this speakers on surround sound system Good luck Yair
yair  Dec 12, 2013
A
No. They are used on their own with no problem. I put four in a restaurant. They are incredible for the cost.
andrew  Dec 12, 2013
A
I would not because the Bose301V has the correct amount of highs, mid and lows to make a in incredible sound. It will be over kill in my opinion.

can i use these speaker for my karaoke system?

3 answers
A
Yes these are great speaker sound loud and clear.Go for it.Be sure it for home used Not for event in big spaces.
edwin  Feb 03, 2016
A
Yes, they will work fine assuming your karaoke system can handle a normal impedance of 6-8ohms
james  Feb 02, 2016
A
I love these speakers as my main front speakers for my amplifier for music, but I also run my TV sound through them along with a Bose center speaker. I would guess that they would make excellent karaoke speakers because their reproduction of sound, including music and voice, is so clear and full. I think they'd be great for karaoke.

Q
CAN I HOOK THESE UP TO MY LAPTOP IF YES WHAT WILL I NEED TO DO?
carl  Feb 09, 2015
3 answers
A
No--you'd need an integrated amplifier with a built-in DAC (digital to analog converter). These are sizable speakers that also work best away from the wall--not for a desktop if that is what you have in mind.
dan  Feb 09, 2015
A
dont think it has enough power to make them sound very good ,these are high performance speakers
charles m  Feb 09, 2015
A
I hooked these up to my stereo system so not sure about a laptop connection. Each speaker requires its own wiring.
