About the Yamaha CBR10

Bob Bihlmayer

Lightweight enclosures, heavyweight performance

Yamaha's CBR Series speakers, their latest entry in the passive speaker category, feature carefully chosen components in well-designed lightweight enclosures that work in a variety of applications. The CBR10 speaker uses a 10" woofer with a 2" voice coil, along with a 2" compression driver in Yamaha's new wide-dispersion constant directivity horn, to spread the sound more evenly throughout the listening area. High-frequency driver protection, along with the responsiveness of the low-frequency driver, allows the CBR10 to handle high output levels reliably.

Yamaha's wide dispersion constant directivity horn helps spread the sound over a wider area.

A touch over 20 pounds

The sleek plastic cabinet lightens the CBR10 to a shade over 20 pounds, about 2/3 of the weight of conventional 2-way speakers. Its shape allows it to double as a floor monitor, and the cabinet also features two M8 rigging points and a 35mm speaker pole socket.  A steel grille protects the speakers and adds to the fresh, modern look of the exterior.

Product Research

Features

CBR Series: The CBR Series is a new lineup of passive loudspeakers developed by adopting the extensive knowledge of speaker design and acoustic technologies that Yamaha has accrued over a long and storied history of making speakers of every kind. Combining a meticulous materials selection process, thorough customization of the audio components, and a fresh, innovative approach to speaker design, Yamaha engineering team's primary focus was to deliver high-power, high-definition sound in a highly portable and versatile design that is equally at home in front-of-house, floor monitoring, or rigged configurations.

Two-Way Speaker Design: The CBR Series loudspeaker comes equipped with carefully selected and customized transducers that feature a highly responsive 10" woofer and a precise 2" compression driver, ensuring consistent high-definition sound with minimal distortion even at high output levels.

Wide-Dispersion Constant Directivity Horn: A newly designed wide-dispersion constant directivity horn minimizes the radiation pattern deterioration in oblique directions that more conventional horns are prone to, allowing sound to expand in a more rectangular pattern (90°H x 60°V), evenly dispersing wide-frequency sound to the outer-most edges of the coverage area.

High Frequency Protection Circuit: CBR Series speakers employ a protection function that limits excessive input to the high frequency driver. This valuable protection circuit affords you worry-free operation of your speakers when you need them most. Combined with a highly responsive low frequency driver, CBR Series speakers reliably deliver clear, precise sound at any output level.

Dual Ports: The CBR Series speaker utilizes two front-firing ports to increase overall efficiency and deliver bigger bass response.

Rugged, Portable Enclosure: The CBR Series loudspeaker features a very compact, durable, and lightweight plastic cabinet equipped with newly designed, ergonomic handles that greatly minimize system transport and setup. In addition, all CBR models feature a sleek, steel front grille that seamlessly blends in with installation aesthetics while protecting the vital inner speaker components from environmental hazards.

speakON and 1/4" Jacks: CBR Series speakers are equipped with one speakON jack and one 1/4" Phone jack that allow for fast and easy connectivity in both personal and professional environments.

Mounting Options: The CBR Series speakers feature an optimized 50° wedge angle for floor monitoring and a 35mm socket which adapts to commercially available speaker stands and speaker poles. CBR loudspeakers also come equipped with M8 rigging points, allowing for rigged applications with optional speaker brackets or standardized eye-bolts.

Q
Puchased a Yamaha Receiver with MusicCast for my garage. Would like to purchase wireless speakers for my covered back patio. The spearkers would not be exposed to the rain. What MusicCast speakers would you recommend?
keith  Jul 25, 2023

A
I can confidently say that this Yamaha CBR10 would not be a good choice since it has no MusicCast capability, Keith. We have a few options here, the first being a couple of the Yamaha MusicCast 20's in the first link below. These are not outdoor rated whatsoever, so they could see a shorter service life anywhere that they will be exposed to humidity and temperature swings. Our second option is the MusicCast WXA-50 streaming amplifier in the second link. This amp mounts indoors and you can run manual speaker wire outside, choosing a passive outdoor speaker connected with wire like the Yamaha NS-AW294's in the third link below. We are always here to help! https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022WX021B/Yamaha-MusicCast-20-WX-021-Black.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022WXA50DS/Yamaha-WXA-50.html https://www.crutchfield.com/p_022AW294BL/Yamaha-NS-AW294-Black.html

Q
Are these speakers good for hooking up an acoustic guitar with two mics in venues?
dawn  Jul 06, 2023
1 answer
A
It would not be possible to connect mics or instruments directly to this speaker since it is passive and requires and amplifier for power. Our pro audio advisors would be happy to recommend the right gear for your needs. Please reach out to us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695. We'll be happy to get you in touch with our specialists.
