Features

System Overview: The Sony DAV-IS10 is an integrated system that includes a single-disc DVD/CD receiver, five matching micro-satellite speakers and a powered subwoofer. The supplied wireless remote operates the system, plus multiple brands of televisions and cable boxes. The system also comes supplied with an iPod interface for connecting your iPod.

S-Master Digital Amplifier: This unit is powered by the S-Master Full Digital Amplifier built inside the system's powered subwoofer. The amplifier processes audio signals from HDTV broadcasts, DVD, or other digital sources, and amplifies them entirely in the digital domain. This design is highly efficient, producing minimal heat, while taking up 1/4 of the space of conventional amplifiers. The amplifier has the following power output specifications:

  • Front/Rear/Center Channels (Five Micro-Satellite Speakers):

    • FTC Rated: 35 watts x 5-channel (800 to 20,000 Hz, 10 ohms, 0.7% THD)

    • Continuous RMS: 50 watts x 5-channel (1 kHz, 10 ohms, 10% THD)

  • Dual Subwoofers:

    • FTC Rated: 75 watts x 2-channel (30 to 800 Hz, 4 ohms, 0.7% THD)

    • Continuous RMS: 100 watts x 2-channel (100 Hz, 4 ohms, 10% THD)

Surround Modes: This receiver decodes the following surround modes to bring you maximum enjoyment from your audio and video software:

  • Dolby Digital: In the Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround format, the surround speakers output stereo sound with an expanded frequency range and a subwoofer channel for deep bass is independently provided.
  • DTS: The DTS surround format conforms to 5.1-channel surround. This format comprises of a stereo rear channel and a discrete subwoofer channel.
  • Dolby Pro Logic II: Dolby Pro Logic II creates five full-bandwidth output channels from 2-channel sources. This is done using an advance, high-purity matrix surround decoder that extracts the spatial properties of the original recording without adding any new sounds or tonal colorations. You can choose from two Dolby Pro Logic II modes.
    • Movie: The Movie mode is for use with stereo television shows and all programs encoded in Dolby Surround.
    • Music: The Music mode is for use with any stereo music recordings and provides a wide and deep sound space.
  • Portable Audio Enhancer: This sound mode produces a clear enhanced sound image from your connected portable audio device. This mode is ideal for MP3 or other compressed music formats.
  • Omni-Directional Sound: This surround mode reproduces the stereo effect everywhere in your room from all five micro-satellite speakers.

Music And Movie Mode: You can choose a suitable sound mode for your movies and music by selecting either the DVD receiver's Music or Movie mode.

2-Channel Stereo: In this mode, standard stereo sources completely bypass the sound field processing.

Bass/Mid/Treble Controls: The system's Bass, Mid and Treble settings can be adjusted independently from -6 to +6dB in 0.5 dB increments.

Night Mode/Audio DRC: The Night Mode lets you enjoy sound effects or dialogue as you would in a movie theater, even at low volume. Audio DRC (Dynamic Range Compression) feature is useful for watching movies late at night by letting you narrow the dynamic range of the sound track. You can select DRC Standard, DRC Max, or DRC Off. Audio DRC applies only to Dolby Digital-encoded soundtracks.

Digital Cinema Auto Calibration: The Sony DAV-IS10 comes supplied with a setup microphone that plugs into the back of the integrated DVD/CD receiver. Sony's Digital Signal Processing uses feedback between the supplied setup microphone and receiver to optimize sound settings. By simply placing the supplied setup microphone in your listening position and pushing a single button on the remote control, speaker position, distance to speaker and delays are automatically calibrated. The microphone features a 16' cord for position flexibility and a threaded hole on the bottom of the microphone's base for mounting it to a tripod.

Note: You can also choose to adjust the system's speaker settings (connection, distance, level) manually.

A/V Sync (Lip Sync): When the sound does not match the pictures on the screen, you can adjust the delay between the picture and sound.

Multi-Format DVD/CD Playback: This system can play the following discs - DVD Video, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW/+R DL, Audio CD, Video CD, and CD-R/CD-RW.

MP3 Playback: This unit will play MP3 files recorded onto DATA CD, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-ROM, or DATA DVD discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level 2 and Joliet formats. Each disc can have a maximum of 200 albums and each album can have a maximum of 300 tracks.

JPEG Playback: This unit will play JPEG files recorded onto DATA CD, CD-ROM, CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, DVD-ROM, or DATA DVD discs using the ISO 9660 level 1/level 2 and Joliet formats. Images of files in an album appear in 16 sub-screens. All JPEG files on a disc can be played back in a slide show with or without audio. You can adjust the slide show interval as well as the slide show effect. Additionally, you can rotate any selected image 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise. Each disc can have a maximum of 200 albums and each album can have a maximum of 300 images.

Picture Navigation: When viewing a DVD or Video CD, you can divide your TV screen into 9 sub-screens and find the desired scene quickly and easily.

Resume Play: This feature allows you to resume playback of a disc from the point where you last stopped. The stopping point is cleared from memory if you remove the disc, change the play mode, change the setting on the Setup Menu, or press the Stop button a second time.

Multi-Disc Resume Play: For DVD Video and Video CD only, the DAV-IS10 system can store the point where you stopped the disc for up to 10 discs, and resume playback the next time you insert the disc. If you store the resume playback point for a 11th disc, the resume point is deleted for the first disc. The Multi-Disc Resume feature can be turned on/off in the menu.

Program Play: You can play the contents of a Video CD, SACD, or Audio CD disc in the order you want by arranging the order of the tracks on the disc to create your own program. You can program up to 99 tracks.

PBC (Playback Control) Playback: PBC playback (Ver.2.0) allows you to play Video CDs and Super Video CDs interactively by following the menu on the TV screen. You cannot use Program Play, Shuffle Play, or Repeat Play with Video CDs and Super VCDs with PBC playback.

Multi-Angle Playback: If various angles (multi-angles) for a scene are recorded on a DVD Video disc, you can change the viewing angle while watching the video.

Screen Setup: You can set the video output of the integrated DVD/CD receiver to match the aspect ratio of your connected television. You can choose from 16:9 Wide Screen, 4:3 Letter Box, or 4:3 Pan Scan.

4:3 Output: When you have set the Screen Setup function to 16:9 you can select how your connected TV will display a 4:3 image. You can select Full (stretches image across entire screen) or Normal (vertical black bars on each side of image).

Progressive Video Output: The DAV-IS10 features a progressive component video output which helps reduce flickering and sharpens the on-screen image. To use this feature, you must have a TV that supports a progressive component video input signal.

HDMI Output With Video Upscale For DVD: The DVD receiver is equipped with an HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) output. You can select from the following HDMI resolutions: Auto (automatically outputs the best resolution acceptable by the TV), 720 x 480p, 1280 x 720p, or 1920 x 1080i. With an HDMI/DVI adapter, you can connect this unit to a TV with an HDCP-compatible DVI input.

Note: DVI cables do not accept audio signals, and there is no analog audio output on the receiver/amplifier.

Bravia Theater Sync: The DAV-IS10 features Bravia Theater Sync via HDMI. When this system is connected by HDMI with a select number of BRAVIA LCD televisions and other Sony audio and video products, in addition to audio and video, control functions will also be transmitted via the HDMI cable (sold separately). Bravia Theater Sync offers "One Touch Play", operations that took several steps before have been reduced to only one. By pressing the PLAY button on the remote, your compatible Sony Bravia audio and/or video component(s) turn on, then your BRAVIA television will turn on and switch to the correct video input.

Digital Media Port: The Sony DAV-IS10 features one Digital Media Port located on the rear panel of the integrated the DVD receiver. This proprietary interface adds networking and connectivity options to your home theater system and components through optional accessories (sold separately) that can connect with various devices. The DAV-IS10 comes supplied with a Digital Media Port iPod adapter. Additional DMP accessories will include a PC Client Ready device, an Audio Docking Station compatible with select Network Walkman players and a Bluetooth Adapter (all sold separately). So regardless of where you store your music, Sony's DIGITAL MEDIA PORT offers an access point, provides control and integrates your portable music into your home theater system.

iPod Adapter With Control: The Sony Bravia Theater DAV-IS10 comes supplied with Sony's TDM-iP1 Digital Media Port adapter for iPod which lets you enjoy iPod audio, video and photo contents through your entertainment system by connecting the TDM-iP1 to the DVD receiver via its Digital Media Port. The Sony TDM-iP1 features an Apple dock connector for connection of your iPod. The TDM-iP1 Digital Media Port iPod adapter connects to the Sony DVD receiver's Digital Media Port (DMPORT), which is located on the rear panel of the unit, via its attached 6.5' proprietary cable. This cable supplies audio, video and control from your iPod to the Sony DVD receiver which then outputs the video to your television through its monitor out. The TDM-iP1 also features a 3.5mm minijack video output that can output a video signal directly to your TV when you are using a Sony receiver that does not feature a monitor output via the supplied minijack-to-composite-RCA video cable. You can operate your iPod by its own control buttons, the control buttons of the Sony DVD receiver, or the IR wireless remote supplied with the DVD receiver. The TDM-iP1 features two iPod display operating modes.

  • iPod Display Mode: This mode allows you to operate your iPod by your iPod's buttons, the connected DVD receiver's buttons or its remote.
  • On-Screen Display Mode: This mode allows you to operate your iPod by the DVD receiver's buttons or its remote while displaying the iPod information menus screen on your television. The On-screen menu will display the iPods Playlist indicating the following - Track Name, Artist name, Album name, Elapsed time, Currently playing track number/total of tracks, and Playback status (Play, Pause, Fast-forward or Rewind

Note: The TDM-iP1 is compatible with the following iPods that feature a dock connector - iPod mini 1st generation, iPod nano 1st generation, iPod nano 2nd generation, iPod 4th generation, iPod 4th generation (color display), iPod 5th generation (video). The unit features an adjustable rear support to help secure your iPod. You should update your iPod with the latest software from Apple before use with the TDM-iP1.

AM/FM Tuner: This system has a PLL quartz-locked digital synthesizer AM/FM Tuner. You can store up to 20 FM and 10 AM station presets so that you always have easy access to your favorite stations without having to tune them in manually each time. You can assign a name of up to 10 characters for each preset. FM tuning is done in 0.1MHz steps and AM tuning is done in 9kHz or 10kHz steps.

Parental Control: This unit allows you to set two kinds of playback restrictions for discs using Parental Control and Custom Parental Control. Parental Control allows you to restrict playback of any disc according to a predetermined level. You can select a parental control rating from 0-8, which is protected by a 4-digit password. Using the same registered password, Custom Parental Control allows you to set playback restrictions for a specific disc. You can set the same Custom Parental Control password for up to 40 discs.

Sleep Timer: The sleep timer switches the unit off after a specified amount of time. The sleep timer can be adjusted from 10 to 90 minutes in 10-minute increments.

Illumination Mode: You can select the way of displaying the soft-touch button located on the top of the unit. You can choose from Standard (sets the soft-touch buttons to always light up) or Simple (sets the soft-touch buttons to light up when you touch them; the soft-touch buttons turn off it you do not touch them for about 10 seconds).

Display Dimmer: Using the remote control, you can set the display to one of two brightness levels.

Screen Saver: The Screen Saver image appears when you leave the system in pause or stop mode for 15 minutes or when you play back an Audio CD or SACD for more than 15 minutes.

Speakers

Micro-Satellite Speakers: The DAV-IS10 system comes with five matching micro-satellite speakers for your front, surround and center locations. Each micro-satellite speaker features a 10-ohm, 1-7/16" full ranger driver in a very compact acoustic suspension enclosure. Each micro-speaker comes mounted to its own little pedestal stand that allows the speaker to swivel left or right. The stand can be removed and the micro-speakers can be wall-mounted using the supplied metal wall-mount brackets. The wall-mount brackets also allow you to swivel the micro-speakers left or right. Each micro-satellite speaker has an attached speaker wire with a proprietary 2-pin connector that plugs into the system's powered subwoofer module. The speakers should be placed the same distance apart from the main listening position at ear level for the best overall performance. The micro-satellite speakers offer the following compact dimensions:

  • Dimensions With Wall-Bracket: Width = 1.692", Height = 2.052", Depth = 1.711"

Powered Subwoofer: The DAV-IS10 system features a powered subwoofer module that features a built-in amplifier that not only powers the system's subwoofers but also supplies power to the connected micro-satellite speakers. The powered subwoofer module houses two subwoofers inside a bass-reflex enclosure with a downward firing port. The unit features a down-firing 4-ohm, 6-3/8" woofer and an upward-firing 4-ohm, 4-3/4" woofer. GREAT! My wife loves it too!

Written By Mike, my bookshelf on Monday, February 09, 2009

Great sound. It is plenty loud enough. My wife lives it. I wish it had video upconversion, or a video input. Otherwise exactly what I wanted for my bookshelf. I even installed in incorrectly, and it still sounds great. Navigate your iPOD, play video, or slideshows on your tv from your iPOD. Control your iPOD with the remote.

mixed review

Written By Dave, Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, May 08, 2008

We bought this home theatre because it could link by HDMI with our new Bravia TV, and because of the clean, compact size. The design is beautiful and the features are pretty fantastic. Lots of functionality. The upconvert DVD player is sweet, picture quality is very sharp. It took a while to figure out all of the settings on the TV and the home theatre to get them to cooperate. A lot of working back and forth between the two owner's manuals. Some folks may not have the patience for this. But the surprise is that the unit does not have much power. Sound is clear, but not much bass punch, and we usually need to turn the volume up to about 70 (max is 80) to hear the soft passages of a typical DVD movie. Mostly happy but a little disappointed too. Seems like there should be more audio power for a system in this price range and wattage.

Even better than expected!!!

Written By Bernard, St Pete, FL on Tuesday, March 04, 2008

We bought this system as a best-compromise between size/weight and performance. Since it's installed in our new $80k RV we couldn't use anything heavy or bulky. As such, we expected to sacrifice sound quality. Imagine our surprised pleasure to discover the rich, crisp sound and music pumping out of the truly TINY speakers. We're talking a third the size of Bose cubes. The ONLY negative is that the total output when everything is turned up as loud as it goes is just not that loud - but for a confined space: perfect! Don't buy this system to play loud music in a disco-sized space, but for a really kicking home theater in a small to medium-sized family-room, this is your bet!

Great Performance in a Small Package

Written By ace5720, Tulsa, Ok. on Wednesday, September 19, 2007

I purchased this Sony Bravia system after hearing a demo at the mall. The sound peformance of this little system is amazing. Set-up was simple and synchronizing the speakers for my den's set-up was a snap with the mic test. The system includes an Ipod dock with terrific on-screen controls (Note: the dock is not compatible with I-phone). I love the fact that you can easily hide the 5 tiny speakers. Friends are amazed with the powerful sound this little system provides. I do wish it had a couple of HDMI inputs, but the system works great playing DVD's via its HDMI output. Overall, I am very happy with this system and would recommend it to anyone looking for powerful performance playing your movies and listening to Ipod in a small package.
