Our take on the Kenwood KSC-WD250

Need an easy way to add some low-end muscle into your music? Kenwood's KSC-WD250 powered subwoofer combines a 10" speaker and a 100-watt amplifier into a compact box that won't take up a lot of space.

The box's ported configuration maximizes the subwoofer's output, and the amp's efficient design ensures solid power output without taxing your car's electrical system. A built-in low-pass filter adjusts the bass to fit your vehicle, while the phase switch ensures that the sub is working with the speakers in your car, not against them. This versatile subwoofer will accept a wide range of input signals, so you can hook it up in almost any system.

Features

Product Overview: The KSC-WD250 features a 10" polypropylene cone woofer in a bass-reflex enclosure with a top-firing port. The woofer is powered by a 100-watt RMS Class D amplifier (200 watts peak). A wired remote control unit is supplied for system control.

Low-pass Filter: The built-in low-pass filter can be set to 50, 80, 100, or 150 Hz using the wired remote control.

Gain Control: The remote control has a rotary control for adjusting the level of the bass.

Phase Control: The subwoofer's phase control allows you to adjust the phase of the subwoofer's output relative to the system. If the bass sounds muddy or unclear, adjusting the phase control can sometimes strengthen the bass "attack."

Mounting: Four brackets and self-tapping screws are supplied, allowing you to mount the enclosure to an appropriate flat surface.

Controls

Wired Remote Control:

  • Phase: button that allows you to set the subwoofer's phase to 0° or 180°
  • Frequency: rotary control that allows you to set the low-pass filter to 50, 80, 100, or 150 Hz
  • Level: rotary control that allows you to adjust the level of the subwoofer

Connections

Left Side of Enclosure:

  • Remote: 6-pin jack for use with the supplied wired remote control
  • Line In: left and right RCA audio jacks
  • Power/Speaker Input: 10-pin jack that connects to the pre-installed power/speaker harness. This harness provides power connections and the speaker-level input leads.
  • Subwoofer Output: 4-pin jack that connects to the pre-installed speaker harness. The harness has two wires that run into the enclosure and connect to the subwoofer. If this harness is unplugged, the woofer will lose all power.

Superb Solution

Written By Tom, Fort Worth, TX on Tuesday, February 19, 2008

This is a great solution to add subtle, solid bass to any music! Wiring was very easy, and I was amazed when I first turned it on! I didn't need (or want) the big boomer-type box -- although this one will certainly rattle the windows... I just wanted something that would add some subtle depth, and this box does a superb job!

Great Punch

Written By ChesterMan, North Loup, NE on Monday, June 26, 2006

This subwoofer was exactly what I was looking for. Since it is a powered subwoofer, it has everything in one box, and the price is right. I just wanted a solid bass boost for my car, and this does just that. If you're looking for good, responsive punch then this is it. It is powerful enough to be turned up half way, and put out great bass, distortion free. Excellent!

Kenwood KSC-WD250

Written By Brian, NY, NY on Friday, April 14, 2006

Nice sub. I used this sub in a system I basically designed for many types of music. I put this in in addition to alpine type-r fiber channels all around. When I turn on a rap song or something with alot of bass, this sub can shake my whole car yet it still sounds very clear. It is an awesome sub for the money and extremely easy to hook up. Just remember, you still need RCA cables to hook this up if you wanna hook it to your deck's pre-amp, because the cables that come with this are meant to be tied into the front and rear speakers connections. The amp has a seperate terminal for hooking up your deck's pre-amp. Make sure you get some high quality cables; I got some gold plated shielded RCA's, very thick and I think I made the right decision. This is a great sub, especially and the remote makes it perfect for people who don't want to have it on all the time.

Rounds out the system well

Written By resslera, Colorado Springs CO on Sunday, April 09, 2006

Was looking for a way to add bass to a system that had NO bass (Isuzu Rodeo w/ 4x6s and 5 1/4s). Installation wasn't bad as I used the RCA inputs from my Pioneer head unit. Very decent bass from 1 10" with only a 100 watt amp.

My only problem was with the included wiring. Kenwood tried to make it easy by having an enormous spool of wiring hooked to the side that included the power, L/R speaker inputs, remote turn on and ground. I'd highly prefer if it was like a normal amp where you run your wiring to the amp. I chose to run a 12 gauge from the batt to the amp and leave the wire coiled behind the unit. The reason why is that it would be a pain to run the inlcluded wire with fuses attached through the firewall into the engine compartment. Another thing, power wires and ground wires were very small! Not the way I prefer to wire an amp.

Decent unit, but let me deal with the wiring Kenwood!

Great value from a 10 inch sub

Written By SalnCammie, Rowlett, TX. on Monday, March 06, 2006

After installing a new deck and door speakers in my Frontier I quickly realized something was missing.Initially I didnt plan on having a sub installed but after switching the stock deck with a Kenwood KDC-MP828 and the 6.5 inch door speakers with a set of Polk DB-650 series speakers, I was so pleased with the sound of that setup that a sub was a must to make the package complete.Like most of us I do not have $$ to burn and already being over on my set budget I found myself searching online for a cheap setup, I knew I wanted the powered sub simply because it seemed so hassle free.I checked reviews for several models knowing that people like you and I, that spend our hard earned money are going to give honest reviews and if its junk well say its junk.I liked the look and reviews of this sub, even though it was a little out of my price range I went ahead and bought it anyway, when you consider your buying the sub, box, amp, and wiring + included remote it doesnt seem so expensive anymore.I am very pleased with this sub-amp combo, for a 10 incher it has a great bass range and really kicks up your system a few notches, I am not a "bass-head" and my music taste varies greatly so I wanted something that would compliment different musical tastes, this sub does the job perfect, and the included remote is a nice touch and very handy, not to mention it has a long thick durable cord not a cheap thin one that would split or tear if you accidently pinched it in the seat, One word of advice make sure you connect the yellow power wires directly to the battery, to avoid shutting of at high volume.A full grill for 100% protection is the only thing that could have been better, A++ Sub.

Kenwood KSC-WD250

Written By Brian, Granville, IL on Sunday, March 05, 2006

I put this sub in a 91 Honda CRX with a Sony head unit and
2 ways in the doors and rear side pilars. I am shocked at how well it sounds. I did not think so much sound coud come out of a sub with a amp that only pulls 10AMPS!!! I was concerned at power usage with only a 60amp
alternator, that is why I tried this. My lights don't even dim sitting at stop lights. The sub is in the hatch and it sounds great making all bass notes clearly! It also included all the wire needed for the install, that was nice.

Nice addition

Written By Dan, Sarasota, Florida on Thursday, January 05, 2006

Installed this in my wifes 2005 Dodge Neon.
Handles nicely for a 10" sub. If your looking for a nice bump, and not ear shattering lows, give this one a try.
This sub is meant for a sub-bass "filler". And it does its job nicely. I also rate its sound quality B, as it can be a little "boomy" on bass drum kicks. (I like a very linear tight bass note myself)

If you want ground pounding, window shattering bass, dont look for a solo 10" sub and expect it to sound like 12 15" subs on 10,000 watts. But if you want a nice compact sub to add life to your music, this one is a great choice.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
