Sony

Our take on the Sony RM-X4S

Sony believes that turning up the bass should be as easy as signaling a right turn — meaning that you feel for the size, shape, or texture of the desired control and make the necessary adjustment, while your eyes stay focused on the road.

Sony extends the same theory of safe, ergonomic operation of the audio system with the RM-X4S wired remote. Most of the receiver's functions can be operated with the remote, and it's infinitely more intuitive than the controls on a typical receiver's front panel. If there's room, you can even mount it on your steering column for super-convenient access.

You'll find the RM-X4S listed as an optional accessory with many of the Sony receivers on this site.

Works for some Pioneers

Written By e-bear, Los Angeles, CA on Saturday, July 11, 2009

What a relief to find this remote. My Pioneer AVIC F90BT does not support infrared remotes and the only Pioneer option was a bulky marine remote. I did not have steering wheel volume controls and the nickle sized button on the Pioneer was a challenge for my five-thumbed right hand. Not every function on the Sony remote works with the Pioneer, but the volume, seek, attenuation and source functions work and those are the most important for me. Installation was a snap and the adhesive mounting bracket was surprisingly stronger than expected.

Works

Written By Mervyn, OKC on Thursday, May 28, 2009

I'm using this remote on a Pioneer AVIC-F90BT. Since the HU is not Sony, I don't have all the functionality as I would if used on a Sony HU but it does what I need it to for the most part.

Written By Richard, Canajoharie, NY on Tuesday, September 11, 2007

What can be said about this product anything that lets you keep your eyes on the road while you fiddle with the stereo has got to be a good thing. And thats what the RM-X4S does , It takes about 5 minutes to read the directions and your set the functions are very easy to remember what does what. Also easy to install.

A must-have for Sony stereos

Written By Joe, Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, June 06, 2006

This is a great add-on if you're buying a Sony stereo. Almost all the head unit functions are available on the remote. Easy installation. The cable is long enough to mount it just about anywhere. I have mine mounted on the console.

An excellent add on.

Written By Eric, Celebration, Fl on Sunday, December 25, 2005

Simply put, worth every penny. Very intuitive controls, good mounting system, and good response to the head unit. Makes all functions easily accessed and my sony unit much more enjoyable (8815..which has no buttons on the front). Definitely worth the small asking price and highly worth purchasing. As an added plus, the wire is long enough to allow mounting almost anywhere, and the installation is a snap.
