Why buy new car speakers?

Great sound has to come from somewhere

If you want your music to sound great, take a look at replacing your current car speakers. Dollar for dollar, it's one of the best ways to improve your car's sound. With good car speakers on board, you'll enjoy brighter highs and beefier lows. Plus, you'll probably hear details in your music that may have been missing before.

Focal PS 130V component speaker system

There are speakers available to match almost any car and system. If your existing factory stereo sounds muddy and muffled, a new set of 2-way or 3-way speakers will provide that extra crispness and detail you're looking for.

Maybe you're designing your ultimate car audio dream system. If so, component speakers should be a part of it. No matter what your plans, better speakers will bring out the full potential of the audio gear in your car.

What makes brand-name speakers better than factory-installed speakers? Design and materials.

Better design means better sound

Vehicle manufacturers don't always think about great sounding speakers when they're designing a new car model — they've got plenty of other issues to think about. But car audio manufacturers are always experimenting and pushing the envelope to make better sounding speakers. You'll hear the difference that commitment makes when you install brand-name speakers in place of the factory-installed originals.

Get Everything You Need

Bass Blockers will make your smaller speakers sound their best.

A Dynamat kit will reduce road noise and make your speakers sound better and louder.

A kick panel enclosure can give you "sweet-spot" stereo imaging with component speakers.

Foam speaker baffles repel dirt and moisture to protect your speakers.

You may need extra speaker wire, especially if you're installing component speakers.

Special tools make installing car speakers much easier.

Brand-name speakers are built from more sophisticated designs than the speakers that came with your car. Most sport multiple drivers — woofers and tweeters, midranges, or even supertweeters — for outstanding sound reproduction. Each of these is built to accurately reproduce a specific segment of your music's sound — the woofer for the lows, the tweeter for the highs, and so on.

That's why you'll hear details that weren't audible with stock speakers. Brand-name speakers also have crossover circuits that are much more advanced than what you'll find in stock speakers. The crossover filters ensure that the right frequencies go to the correct driver, so the speaker operates efficiently and gives you great sound.

Better materials — long life and improved performance

Brand-name speakers are built from state-of-the-art materials that are resistant to the extremes in temperature and humidity that car speakers are exposed to. These materials are not only durable, but also have superior sonic performance. You'll enjoy deeper, tighter lows, cleaner, crisper highs, and the confidence to know that your speakers will hold up over time.

Brand-name speakers — the affordable option

There are a lot of ways to expand and improve your vehicle's audio system, but adding new car speakers is one of the most effective and affordable. Even a modest investment in new speakers will improve the entire range of sound that you listen to. So make sure speakers are part of your audio improvement plans. Whether your project is large or small, better speakers will make a difference you can hear.

I just bought a new receiver (kenwood) and JBL concert series speakers but the base sounds muddy - I installed them in a Dodge mini van (3 way speakers in front doors 2 way in rear). I don't want to sound like I am complaining but after spending a few bucks I want it to sound perfect - Did I do something wrong installing them ? Should have used something to pad the speakers ?

I bought speakers from Crutchfield to replace the stock ones in my 2001 Dodge Dakota roughly 14 years ago. Sounded fantastic! That being said, how may years can you expect car speakers to last considering the heat and cold they endure?

Bill, there's no real reliable average. It'll depend on if your vehicle is garage-kept, weather where you live, materials used, etc. If they still sound great, no need to sweat getting new ones! But if you're sound starts to deteriorate, just give us a call.

2012 Tundra Double Cab...looking to upgrade factory speakers. Is it feasible to take the highs from a 3 way sysytem in the front doors and mount them as the tweeters in the dash? Or does that lose sound?

Barry, you're best bet would be to try out the different placements to see if your sound changes. I'm unsure if you're talking about moving your factory speakers or if you're inquiring about a new set, but I've passed your question along to our Advisors. Someone will contact you soon to help!

I guarantee that if you add an amp to those Bose speakers and maybe some crossovers and tweeters you'll love the additional clarity and volume from the investment!

Hi I have a 1996 corvette coupe. I replaced the stock radio with a JVC HD R70. I am now wondering if I should consider upgrading speakers. The original system was Bose.
