About the Bose® link AL8
The Bose link AL8 homewide wireless audio link is the easiest way to expand your Bose Lifestyle® system to additional rooms. It includes a transmitter that connects to your Lifestyle media center and a receiver that you can hook up to a Bose Wave® music system or any other Bose link-compatible product in another room. Then you can listen to music from your Lifestyle system in either location, with no room-to-room wiring required.
Expanding your wireless Bose system to even more rooms is simple, too just add a separately available AR1 wireless audio receiver and a Bose link-compatible speaker system in each additional room where you want to enjoy music. The AL8 transmitter can send signals to a total of 8 different receivers. It can also send two independent audio streams at the same time. That means Dad can enjoy tunes from the Lifestyle's uMusic playback system while the kids listen to a CD or FM radio in another room. Bose's separately available Personal® music center II remote lets you control uMusic and other system options from almost anywhere in the house.
The AL8's transmitter can send signals through most walls and floors to receivers up to 80 feet away. Proprietary Bose technology lets the wireless audio link operate efficiently and cleanly, uninterrupted by cordless phones and Wi-Fi® Internet connections. The ear-pleasing result is warm, enveloping Bose sound wherever you want it.

Product Research
Features
Product Overview: The Bose AL8 Wireless Audio Link system consists of two components: The AL8 Wireless audio transmitter and the AR1 Wireless audio receiver. The AL8 system allows you to expand your Bose Lifestyle music system into other rooms without the need to run wires between rooms. The output of the AR1 can be connected to a Bose link-compatible audio system, powered speaker, amplifier or radio.
System Expansion: The AL8 Bose link system comes with 1 transmitter and 1 receiver. Up to seven additional AR1 receivers (item # 018AR1) can be connected, so you can receive audio from one AL8 transmitter in a total of 8 rooms. With 2 or more AR1 receivers connected, you can receive two independent audio streams from the Lifestyle System.
Compatibility: The AL8 Bose link transmitter is compatible with Lifestyle 48, 38, 28II and 18II systems. The output of the AR1 wireless receiver can be connected to several Bose components, such as the 3-2-1 Series II system, Lifestyle SA-3 amplifier, Wave Music System, or Wave Radio II. The system can be used with older Bose components, as well as non-Bose link components with RCA inputs and outputs when an adapter cable is used. (The adapter kit, part number 285320-207, is available directly from Bose.)
Connections: The supplied Bose link A cable connects between the Lifestyle system and the AL8 transmitter, as well as between the AR1 receiver and the amplifier, powered speakers, or radio. Two 7' cables are provided with each AL8 system, and one cable is supplied with each additional AR1 wireless receiver.
Free Field Circuitry: The proprietary Free Field circuitry enables the AL8 transmitter and the AR1 receiver to operate efficiently in the presence of signals from cordless phones, wireless Internet (WiFi) connections, and other devices. The Bose link transmitter and receiver operate in the 2.4000 GHz to 2.4835 GHz frequency band.
Operating Range: The AR1 receiver should be placed within 80 feet of the AL8 transmitter. The AL8 has an RF transmitting power of approximately 300 mW peak.
Setup Code Switches: To ensure compatibility, the two micro-switches on the AR1 receiver should be set to match the switches on the AL8 transmitter.
Status LED: The AL8 transmitter and the AR1 receiver are each equipped with an LED which indicates how the two components are communicating. The status indicators are as follows:
Status LED | Blinking Green | Solid Green | Blinking Orange | Solid Orange |
---|---|---|---|---|
On the Transmitter | Searching for receiver | Receiver located | N/A | Powered on, no communication |
On the Receiver | Searching for transmitter | Solid signal received | Weak signal received | Weak or no signal received |
Channel Switch: If you have a WiFi system in your home, you can set the AL8's channel switch to the same channel being used by the WiFi system. The AL8 then avoids that channel to prevent WiFi performance problems, such as slow or intermittent data transmissions.
Audio Input/Output Level: The AL8 has a fixed audio input level of 2 volts RMS. The AR1 has a fixed audio output level of 2 volts RMS.
