Bazooka

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Our take on the Bazooka BT8014

by Steven Johnson

A bass cannon

Bass makes up about 30% of your music, and it gives music its power and impact. A good subwoofer can make an average car audio system sound good, and a good car audio system sound great. Good bass is all about moving air, and a cylindrical tube translates the motion of its woofer into maximum air pressure so you hear and feel more bass. Bazooka designed the Bass Tube to act like a bass cannon, firing low frequencies throughout your vehicle.

Bass Tube efficiency

BT8014 8" Bass Tubes® enclosure

The BT8014 Bass Tube features a 8" polypropylene woofer with a twin-layer compressed foam surround for smooth excursion. The 4-layer voice coil ensures reliable power handling for plenty of punch, and its 4-ohm impedance allows you to power multiple tubes with a single amp. The tube design eliminates standing bass waves for accurate response and high efficiency. Find a good spot for a Bazooka Bass Tube in your vehicle and you'll still enjoy plenty of cargo room.

Big bass without losing space

Bass Tubes enclosures fit just about anywhere

A compact Bass Tubes enclosure will fit in almost any vehicle, and you can disconnect it in a snap if you need more cargo space. Since the tube's speaker and port are right next to each other, you can get amazing results by "corner loading" your tube — placing it in a corner of your trunk or cargo area so your vehicle's boundaries act as a natural amplifier, boosting bass production. Features

Overview: The BT8014 features a water-resistant poly enclosure that houses an 8" poly woofer with a foam surround. The patented Bass Tube enclosure design eliminates bass standing waves for high accuracy, and superior efficiency.

5-Way Binding Posts: The 5-way binding posts will accept bare wire, pin connectors, spade lugs, banana plugs, and dual banana plugs.

Installation: Each mounting strap has an attached mounting base that can be secured to your vehicle using the supplied self-tapping screws. Once the mounting bases are installed, the tube is held in place by the mounting straps. For best results, the tube should be mounted facing into a corner, and there should be 2" to 4" between the woofer and the corner into which the woofer is pointing.

    Bazooka BT8014

Written By TMS, Belleville, IL on Friday, October 01, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed something to fill in the bass that my Polk Audio components simply weren't going to be able to do. I'm sending this 150 watts off a bridged 4 channel amp and am pleased with the sound. I wasn't looking for a huge 'thump', but something to cover the lower frequencies (at a reasonable price). It's doing what I asked it too. The mounting straps are pretty cheesy and cheap, but for the price, I guess that's what you get.

    Bullet proof

Written By wjs1820, Western CT on Wednesday, January 06, 2010

I have had owned and abused the same bazooka subwoofer in my vehicles since 1990.
It has been knocked around and survived 20 new england winters and summers (knock
on wood). I've run this thing over and under powered in 4 different systems and it's still
thumping.I like my system musically balanced and this sub adds low end presence that
you can feel without blowing out the windows. I primarily listen to different variations of
rock music and it sounds great to me with 50 watts and plus 3 on the bass tone control.
I'm using it in my Silverado pickup truck tucked nicely under the back seat and one 10"
driver is enough to fill. In the past 6 years I've had to replace my amp, door speakers and
head unit each after a respectable level of service but this sub is by far the most reliable
piece of equipment I've owned. My current system is an Alpine head unit, (w/ sirius &
Ipod controls) Sony 5 channel amp, Polk 6 1/2" seperates in front, polk 4x6 rear and the
    Bazooka 10" all from Crutchfield.

    Big Bass On Small Budget

Written By jtran76, Dover, PA on Friday, July 31, 2009

I was very surprised on how much bass this 8" bass tube produces. I previously had a 10" Rockford Fosgate Prime in a sealed enclosure pushing a 100 watts rms using old school 2 channel amplifier in a 04 Mazda3 hatchback. This 8" sub out pounds my 10" Rockford sub. When people listen to my car stereo nobody believes that I am using a single 8" sub until I show them. Everyone that listen to my car stereo said it sounds more like a pair of 10" subs or a single 12" sub. Definitely worth the money. Like a lot of people I was very skeptical at first about bass tubes. Now I would definitely recommend this to anyone that is on a budget and don't want to break the bank with having to have a huge amp or taking up a lot of trunk space just to have big bass.

    good sound, awkward to mount

Written By Mr. Tibs, Chicago, IL on Sunday, April 20, 2008

In the trunk of my 2000 Lincoln Town, 500-watt RMS Kenwood mono sub
amp. Is there enough bass?.... yes... but is there more than enough
bass?... no (you know what I'm talking about). I was surprised that at only
8" it does a very good job of penetrating through the back seat into the
passenger compartment and rounding out the music, but does it produce
the super deep bass of my previous sealed Infinity 12" with 1800w peak
power handling... no. Also, the enclosure's shape lends to good sound,
but makes it awkward to mount. The bulk of the weight is at the driver's
end, so a single metal strap mount (like I've done) should be placed closer
to that end, where the center of mass is, for optimal security. All in all,
    great boom for the buck.

    Perfect for my truck

Written By dj12563, Colorado on Tuesday, April 08, 2008
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in the rear area of my S-10 extended cab and it is perfect for what I wanted. As stated before, this won't blow out your neighbors windows or set off car alarms, but it does provide plenty of low end to your system. I am running this Bazooka bridged off a Profile amp. I am very pleased with it so far. The only thing I don't like is the cheap bracket and strap mounting setup, but it is functional and wasn't a big enough deal for me to rate it lower.

    Clear, solid bass

Written By mark, San Diego, CA on Monday, July 23, 2007
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a 6" tube for my son's truck and was amazed at the amont of bass coming from that little sub, so I bought an 8" bazooka for the trunk of my Suzuki Esteem. First off, this sub is very efficient, it will achieve fairly high bass levels with a lower powered amp. The bass is also very clean and not at all distorted, it will compliment your existing speakers rather than overpower them. The space saving design is also great if you have a small trunk like me.

    great sound and bass

Written By cole, charlottesville, va on Monday, January 02, 2006

I have a 91 ford ranger, and i knew normal component subs were not an option due to space. i got two 8inch bazookas and couldn't be happier with the bass considering the price and convenience.

    Quality Sound

Written By Rodney, Columbia, SC on Tuesday, April 05, 2005
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed one of these in my 1992 Nissan 300ZX along with a Alpine MRP-T220 amp and the bass is incredible. I had my doubts at first, but the quality of the sound is well worth the money. All of my friends could not believe that one 8in subwoofer could produce that much bass. Anyone would think that it was two 10in subwoofer easy. I'm very pleased with my purchase
