Installation Note: This harness uses your factory amplifier; your new stereo must have two pairs of preamp outputs to connect this harness.

This vehicle-specific wiring harness makes connections between your new car stereo and your car's electrical system.

First, attach the color-coded wires on your Crutchfield harness to the wires from your new stereo. If you don't know how to use a soldering iron, we recommend that you purchase some wire connectors that you'll use to attach the Crutchfield harness to your factory harness.

Now, once this harness is connected to your new stereo, you'll be able to plug right into your car's factory radio connector. This harness makes installing your new stereo easier, and allows you to put the factory radio back when you sell your vehicle or return it at the end of the lease. A detailed instruction sheet comes with the harness. Warranty: 60 days.

Please read this important note: This harness may not contain provisions for every wire needed to complete your installation, and it will not accommodate special navigation, video, or factory steering wheel control connections. You will need a special adapter if you want your factory steering wheel audio controls to work with your new stereo.

Note: Most vehicles will require additional installation parts — please identify your vehicle if you haven’t done so, then check here for a list of parts. You can also call an Advisor for more information.

Features

Crutchfield Wiring Harness: Crutchfield wiring harnesses prevent you from having to cut your vehicle's factory radio plug when replacing your factory radio with an aftermarket head unit. Simply solder or crimp the Crutchfield wiring harness to your aftermarket head unit's harness (solder & crimps not included), plug the aftermarket head unit's plug into the rear chassis of the aftermarket head unit, and plug the Crutchfield wiring harness into your vehicle's factory radio plug.

Note: Installation tools, hardware, & accessories are not included & sold separately. Please see the Accessories tab for recommendations & availability.

Wiring Notes: If the Crutchfield wiring harness is not equipped with a ground wire, you will need to ground the aftermarket head unit's ground wire to the metal chassis of your vehicle. Some vehicle's may require you to bypass the vehicle's factory amplifier (in another location from factory radio) or hardwire certain connections. If your vehicle is equipped with factory steering wheel controls, an additional adapter is required & sold separately.

Toyota Harness for Pioneer stereo

Written By Rayland, Louisiana on Sunday, May 19, 2013
Installed in a 2002 Toyota Sequoia
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Harness worked great and really simplified wiring conversion for installation. Only one small comment, there was no wire included to tie to the lighting wire that dims the screen when the parking/headlights are on- had to splice one but all other major connections were very easy to match to the radio wiring harness. Used RCA plugs for the four speaker channels.
Pros:
See above, plugged directly into Toyota harness without problem.
Cons:
Had to test and splice dimmer wire but still far easier than splicing all of them.

worked well for connecting an Alpine Alpine CDE-137BT with 2002 camry

Written By Jim, Columbia, MO on Tuesday, March 05, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like other reviewers have said, there is no wire for the dimmer function in the car harness. I researched this online and discovered that on the 2002 camry, the solid green wire (pin 2) in the Toyota wiring harness) will dim the head unit lights when you turn the headlights on. This is the "Illumination" wire on the Alpine head unit harness. You just need to splice a jumper wire into the solid green wire in the Toyota harness and put a bullet connector on it so it will plug into the Alpine Illumination lead.

Also, I read online that if you connect to the green and white wire in the Toyota harness, then the head unit lights will dim when you adjust the dimmer control on the dash lights.

Also, I discovered to just add the "amp shield ground" black and white wire in with the other chassis ground wires.

I hope this helps.

Jim

I hope this helps.
Pros:
Works great in connecting the Alpine head unit into the 2002 camry with JBL amp and no navigation system
Cons:
The illumination/dimmer wire is not provided, you have to splice one in.

This harness work great if you want to intergrate the factory JBL Amp that comes with the car, but if you want to bypass the factory Amp to put another Amp in your car you need the Metra 70-1761 harness also sold by Crutchfield.
Pros:
Easy to use
Cons:
Crutchfield need to explain to use the other harness (Metra 70-1761) if you want to bypass the factory amp to use another amp.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a little confused when reading the instructions with the wiring harness and applying them to the instructions with the JVC Stock unit I was installing. There are several wires NOT used when hooking up a new head unit to the factory amps/speakers. Once I figured it out and taped off the "unused" wires, it was straight forward.
Pros:
Free with the unit
Cons:
Documentation may be a bit vague.

Prompt, efficient and exceptional Customer Service

Written By Andres, Ohio on Saturday, August 11, 2012

I bought a kit to install an after market stereo, which included the most detailed explanation of the installation process. As i began the process, I greatly appreciated the visual instructions and reader friendly step by step process. When I realized I had not bought the wiring harness I immediately called the Crutchfield customer service with a simple inquiry of which wiring harness I would need for my specific car. I was impressed with their exceptional knowledge of my car and their response. When I told the customer service rep I was ready to place my order, he said not to worry, that Cruttchfield would ship the wiring harness free of charge and that I should expect its arrival in my house in 2 days!!!!!! Needless to say I was impressed and greatly appreciated their service!
Pros:
Everything I ordered arrived in time, and customer service was great and extremely supportive.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

connector quality and fit were very good. Kept me from having to cut or splice wires in my cars wiring harness. I was able to sit in the comfort of the AC instead of the central Texas heat while making almost all the connections for the new stereo. The directions were not very good, but were workable.
Pros:
good quality and fit.
Cons:
mediocre directions

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit makes life much easier....almost. I think I just got a poor harness (and user error on my part). The power antenna wire came out of my kit when I tried to connect it to the radio harness coming from the car and I could not get this to work and ended up running down to a Box store to buy a new harness. Part of the problem was that you have to connect the two blue wires or you get no sound (if figured I had thee antenna plug in the back plus one of the others..my bad). If the wire would have stayed and I connected them all I am sure it would have been fine but for free with the deck AND the install kit I am not complaining. I could have called to get another one I am sure but it was trying to surprise my wife and need one now.
Pros:
makes life much easier
Cons:
Connections of the wires intot hte harness could be better.

Luckily the harness was free

Written By Chuck, Oshkosh, wI on Sunday, March 25, 2012
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The biggest problem was the harness doesn't come with a dimmer pin. So I researched my vehicle's wiring schematics and located the vehicle side dimmer and spliced in. I called Cruthfield and asked why it doesn't have a dimmer pin. They told me my truck doesn't have it. I call B.S. because I found it and it dim's the unit when I turn the headlights on.
Pros:
Free with purchase of receiver.
Cons:
Missing Dimmer Pin.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Worked like a charm with the factory amp in my 2000 Avalon. The head unit I bought only had 2 RCA outputs, so I had to use y cables to combine 4 into 2. Works great, except I lost front to rear fading. Didn't need that anyway, so I'm pleased and the new unit sounds great.

works but is the wrong way to go

Written By feniks, Wallington, NJ on Sunday, October 16, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

first of all, the factory amp adapter does NOT have the illumination wire hooked up, so you need to splice into the green wire on Toyota amp plug. second and most important it does NOT make any sense to actually use the factory amp since it's like what 10 years old and inferior quality already by now when compared to new head unit's built-in amp? I had static noise, background noise and other problems when using the factory amp! nobody at Crutchfield suggested that I should have tried to bypass it by using a different integration adapter (solaras have bypass plugs behind the dash, so it's an easy plug and play to bypass the amp)

I ended up buying a Scosche amp bypass adapter and hooked up my JVC head unit straight to speakers, zero problems now, crystal clear sound. also worth noting is that amp bypass adapter actually has the illumination wire terminal hooked up (amp integration adapter does NOT so I had to splice).
