    Features

Overview: The Logitech Squeezebox Duet consists of a multi-room Squeezebox Controller, charging stand, and a Squeezebox Receiver. The Squeezebox Duet Network Music System streams your digital music collection and internet radio from your computer to any stereo system, powered speakers, or headphones within your network (LAN). Squeezebox has an Ethernet port and built-in WiFi capability, so it can be hardwired or connected wirelessly to a 802.11b/g/n network. SlimServer software is downloaded from your internet connection and facilitates communication between the Squeezebox Duet Network Music System and your computer.

Multi-Room Controller: The Squeezebox Duet's multi-room controller features a 2.4-inch, 256k color, backlit LCD display which makes it easy to browse playlists, albums, artists, and more. You can even use the controller to search by name. Its convenient scroll wheel, simple menus, and intuitive buttons make navigation simple. The multi-room controller operates off of a supplied Lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack. The unit comes supplied with a charging cradle to keep the battery charged.

High-Performance Sound Quality: Expert engineering and sophisticated audio rendering technology provide sound clarity to please even the most demanding audiophile. The Squeezebox Duet Network Music System utilizes a high-fidelity 24-bit Wolfson DAC, sophisticated audio rendering technology, and digital outputs to provide crystal clear CD-quality sound.

Wireless Setup: The unit features built-in 802.11b/g/n capabilities with an internal wireless antenna. The Squeezebox Duet's advanced 802.11b/g/n wireless technology eliminates the need to string wires everywhere to listen to the music from your computer. The unit also features a hardwired Ethernet connection.

SqueezeNetwork: SqueezeNetwork is an always-on service (doesn't require that your computer is on) that provides access to Internet Radio. You can access millions of songs, thousands of Internet radio stations such as  iTunes, Radio IO, RadioTime, Live365 and SHOUTcast; and music service providers such as Pandora, Rhapsody and Slacker, without ever turning on your computer using SqueezeNetwork, a unique Internet service. A complete current list of compatible services is available on Logitech's website (logitech.com). Even your personal music collection can be stored online in an MP3tunes music locker and played through your Squeezebox Duet.

Music Libraries: You are able to stream the digital music files stored on your computer (PC or Mac) over your home network to the Squeezebox Duet Network Music System. Many compressed, uncompressed, and lossless formats are compatible:

    • Compressed:MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, MP2, MusePack, and WMA
    • Uncompressed: WAV, PCM, and AIFF
    • Lossless: Apple Lossless, WMA Lossless, and FLAC

Note: Not compatible with protected DRM music files purchase from online stores such a iTunes or Zune.

Internet Radio: Listen to thousands of free Internet radio stations from around the world; access to talk radio, jazz, rock, pop, or your old favorite in the town where you grew up through your broadband internet connection.

Bridged Network Configuration: This configuration should only be used if you do not have a wireless network in your home. The Squeezebox Receiver will be connected to your wired Ethernet network and the Squeezebox Controller will use an ad-hoc connection to the Receiver for it's network connection.

Note: Ad-hoc connections on 802.11 wireless networks have much lower range than regular connections (called infrastructure mode connections). If at all possible, consider adding an 802.11 wireless router or access point to your network. It will improve the overall performance of the Squeezebox Duet.

Multiple Locations: You can add additional Squeezebox Duet Receivers (596SQRCVR, sold separately) and listen to a different song in each room, or synchronize them and hear the same music everywhere. Any number of Squeezebox Duet Receivers on your network can be connected to a single computer with SlimServer. They can all play different music, or your can synchronize them to play the same music throughout the house.

    Great Product

Written By Peter, Falls Church, VA on Saturday, July 02, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the Squeeze Radio first and then decided to digitize my CD Collection on a Vortexbox and buy the Duet to run all. I wish there would be a step by step tutorial how to incorporate multiple library and setup choices. It took some time and still not totally there, but the Duet works very well.

    Squeezebox Duet

Written By Dan_P, Gunn City, MO on Tuesday, June 28, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Squeezebox Duet is a good product with poor documentation. First problem is the requirement to download and install the"SqueezeCenter" software. There isn't any such software. Instead they mean to Install Squeezebox Server v7.5.4 (at time of this review). And squeezenetwork.com in the Users guide is actually now mysqueezebox.com/whatsnew. The Users Guide is short on information and almost caused me to return the product as not working because of initial setup dificulties. Squeezebox could not find my network and required the receiver to have power removed and reapplied before options spoken of on the support website would even appear on the controller. In use the hand held controller is simply excellent. However, one thing should be clearly understood, and that is your computer must be on and running Squeezebox Server software or none of it will work. You cannot get the excellent Pandora app or any of the internet channels without the Squeezebox Server software running. I don't run my computer 24/7 so it's a little annoying. Overall I am happy with the Squeezebox Duet and consider it to be worth the money.

    Squeezeme

A great product. Exactly what I needed to unlock the whole-house potential of my existing
music equipment and thousands of music files on my computer plus Pandora. Once setup, it
works flawlessly. There's the only rub. Logitech changed the setup process so the quick
setup guide that came in the box wasn't the latest process. The new process is actually
easier but not if you start with the boxed instructions and have to back up. If you buy this
    quality product, go online first.

    Logitech® Squeezebox™ Duet

Written By JohnG, Landenberg, PA on Tuesday, January 25, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Squeezebox Duet controller and receiver installed easily and work without a
problem. The receiving unit is in another room about 25 feet from my wireless
Linksys router and it is plugged into my Yamaha receiver. I largely use the
Squeezebox Duet to access and play internet radio stations ( Pandora being a
favorite) , through my stereo system. I've had it for about 6 weeks with no
problems. I use iPeng for my iPad with the Squeezebox and it works well. I have
not used the Squeezebox to access files on my computer yet as this is a low
priority for me. I find the volume controller function on the Squeezebox useful.

    Great concept. Needs some refining

Written By Dave, New Jersey on Thursday, January 20, 2011

I'd been looking for a long time for something like this. I have about 500 CD's and my CD
jukebox only holds 400. I really needed a way to access all of my music seemlessly. I
also wanted the convenience of an I-pod like operating system. This unit offers that and
    more.

I am no techie and the directions and support provided with this product is thread bare,
but after a lot of trial and error I go it working.

My only other gripe is buffering. Some days it runs flawlessly, but other days (usually
when I'm having a party!) it seems to buffer a lot during play. Not sure what causes this,
but I have a very good router so that should not be the problem. Other than that, I love
this product. Only thing left to do is to upload all 500 or so CD's to me hard drive. That is
    quite a daunting task!

    Great product, yet frustrating

Written By Gerard P, Austin, TX on Wednesday, January 19, 2011

I've owned one of these for almost 3 years now and I've never owned a product so
    useful, yet so frustrating.

On the plus side, the sound is terrific, it's relatively easy to operate and
there are many, many sources of music to listen to from Rhapsody to internet
radio to the (non-DRM) music off of iTunes. The Squeezebox changed the way I
listen to music as much as the iPod did, and that's saying a lot.

On the minus side, I've had persistent firmware bugs with the remote since Day
1, and although the problems have grown less, they've continued constantly up to
now. The controller works fine for 1/2 hour then the problems start. After
that, it will start losing the signal for a minute or two then lock up or lose
some remote functions. This happens EVERY TIME I use it. Logitech's tech
support is great and has tried to help, but the problems persist. On top of
that, the battery life is poor to middling.

As much as I love this product, I can't recommend it now that newer and better
products are appearing on the market. If you have the money, buy a Sonos or
better. If you can afford just the price range of this product, skip it and try
    the newer Squeezebox products.

Really nice unit. took me awhile to get everything set but I was not working really hard at
it either. The new webpage for Squeezebox was hard for me to follow for setting up.
May have been my dumb mistake. Support got me right back in line though. Glad I
bought it, it does everything it says.

    Awesome!

Written By Cowboychincs, USA on Wednesday, September 29, 2010

Owned this setup for 2+ years.... totally awesome.... when we have people over to the
house... I just hand them the remote control and have them pick whatever music they
want... from my own home network stored music, Pandora, or whatever they want.... they
get the biggest kick out of it.... I have it hooked up to my whole house amp, so the music
plays all over the house... wherever I want it to play... even on the patio, in the garage,
etc. Great device for all my friends when they come over for dinner or just relaxing on the
deck.... I could have easily sold 5-10 of these devices to my friends if the price would
have been lower... if Logitech would drop the price on these to under $150, they would fly
off the shelves... the base unit will work either via wireless or wired ethernet... and the
remote is so much fun to use... buy it and you will not be disappointed!

After reading some of the reviews, I was a little worried that I made the wrong decision going with the Squeezebox Duet instead of the SONOS system but was I surprised! It literally took 5 minutes to set up and was super simple.

I would recommend this for anyone looking for an practical and reasonably inexpensive way to play their Itunes, Pandora etc. anywhere in the house.

We just installed a 600 sq ft paver patio in the back yard and I was worried that the controller would not allow me to control the music and volume, but it has worked flawlessly.

Great concept, has a few bugs

Written By PCM, Tallahassee, FL on Sunday, June 27, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking to replace an older receiver and CD changer for a whole house audio system. My needs were fairly simple, I just wanted to be able to remotely control the system from another room, and wanted a remote that had a display as to what was happening.

Conventional wisdom on some audio forums said I had to spend thousands of dollars on equipment to do this.

After some research, I found the Squeezebox Duet. Crutchfield's price was very competitive, and due to their reputation I bought it here (glad I did so, keep reading).

The unit arrived quickly, and to make a long story short, I had a bad battery. I called tech support and had another unit on the way hassle-free within minutes, and a UPS label to return the defective one (this is a big reason why you should shop at Crutchfield).

The second unit worked as designed. It found all of the music I had on a network attached storage device. The interface is very easy to understand. It's amazing how many free Internet radio stations are out there- it's neat to be able to listen to stations from your old town. It does everything I need it to do for a fraction of the cost of the big dollar equipment. The only minus I've seen on it so far is the range seems very limited. I'm about 25 feet away from my router (through a floor and 2 walls) and it has one bar of signal or will occasionally lose signal.

Overall, this system is great for what I needed, and I recommend it to anyone looking for something similar.

    Great but not perfect

Written By David, Santa Fe, NM on Thursday, June 10, 2010
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Setting this up was a no-brainer. Download the software, plug the gear in, and do as you're told, and it works.

It's really irritating that for the two power supplies (one for the receiver, one for the charging station for the controller) there's only one removeable plug. So if the receiver is in use, you can't charge the controller, and vice versa.

I use only the internet radio feature. You can't tune in a station, push the plus button, which is supposed to add whatever's playing to your favorites list, and then recall the station later from the Favorites list. The list is looking for a playlist for the "site", and there isn't one.

I didn't find anything in the manual that explains how to set up an internet radio Favorites list. As far as I can tell, you have to do it from you computer. The URL you need isn't the one in your computer's browser. It's the one in the controller, but once again, the manual doesn't tell you that. In a day and a half did stumble on a way to do it, but the instruction manual should provide, well, instructions.

Works exactly as advertised, high praise indeed

Written By ReviewBH, Dallas, TX on Thursday, December 17, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a product to address 3 issues:

    1) iTunes MP3 collection on one side of house.
    2) Amps for media room & house speakers on other side of house.
    3) Did not want to use computer monitor or media room projector to select music.

My installation used a wired network connection for Duet, Wi-Fi for remote, coax & fiber
digital links to two amps, 64 bit Windows 7 w/iTunes.

Be sure of battery orientation in the remote. The setup was guided on the remote. Soon I
saw my MP3 collection, playlists and Internet radio stations. The remote seamlessly
transitioned between the two wireless access points. I played an MP3 file and heard
music in the media room, but not in the house. I switched the house amp from analog to
digital input and I had music everywhere.

The remote is iPod-like; intuitive to use. Album art in an MP3 file displays in color. My
wife, from her experience with her iPod, is now able to use our music library. Prior to the
SqueezeBox I had to turn the music on in the house.

Internet radio was not a selling point when I bought SqueezeBox. I haven't used Internet
radio since the places I have access to it aren't places I listen to the radio. Being
able to stream that resource via the SqueezeBox into our house speakers is very nice.
This is an excellent tool for its intended purpose. I have already recommended it to
    others with similar needs.

I spent three hours on the phone with Logitech support. They could not make this product work on my new Windows 7 computer and Belkin router. Call the much touted Crutchfield support and was told all they could do would be walk me through the manufacturers set up book. If Logitech could not do it, they said they can't. Not what they told me before I bought it on the phone. Unless you really know your way around a computer, IP, router, virus control, firewall, and other technical issues, you will not be able to make this work. Too bad, I really wanted te expand Pandora around the house. This product is not ready for the average homeowner. Sorry.

    Poorly documented and supported

Written By Sam, Clemson, SC on Monday, November 09, 2009
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a Squeezebox Duet a few weeks ago and was very excited due to its high ratings and specifications, e.g. 24-bit DAC's. However, despite my being an engineer and having set up many wireless components, I could not get this system to work. I called the toll-free support number and was instructed to call a toll number. I called the toll number and was on hold for such a long time that I finally gave up. The documentation is obsolete for the new firmware version. No literature ships with this device, and there was nothing available online in the way of help. Logitech should know better than to release a product without up-to-date documentation and excellent toll-free tech support. Logitech's e-mail support took 5 days to respond, and despite my having provided elaborate details on the problem, in their e-mail they just told me to contact them via phone. No links to a troubleshooting chart or anything helpful at all. By this time I had spent at least 12 hours on finding a solution, trying many different settings on my wireless router and firewalls, without any luck. It is possible if I spent a few hours on the phone with them we could have found a work-around, but it seemed so obvious that the product isn't documented, that I feared for what might happen if I upgraded routers or firmware. I am returning this unit to Crutchfield and hope to find a better solution soon.

This is an awesome little toy. The setup was amazing. A friend used his Apple to set up an iTunes library, but it took him a while to set up his playlists, purchase the songs, and it seemed like a headache. For me, it took me 15 minutes to unpack, set up, and log into my Pandora service. I was listening to my music in easily under 20 minutes and I love it. To be able to adjust the volume remotely is great and you can even get album data. Highly recommend this product, especially in conjunction with Pandora. Yup, did pay the $30 to Pandora to support their project.

    Squeezebox Duet with Satellite ISP

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Given some basic familiarity with computer/cell phone/remote control software (this means - lots of button punching and scroll wheel spinning, technology that is is definitely not compatible with arthritic finger joints!), the Duet offers a relatively easy and straight forward install and set-up procedure. Using the on-line Users Guide (oddly not included with the unit), set-up was complete in about 20 minutes. You will need your computer, ISP, plus your wireless router (in order to do internet radio and on-line music services). Check for compatibility before buying. Logitech offers an informative, searchable on-line help site, with rapid response to user questions. Wireless access to the world of internet radio, digital music files, plus the (unexpectedly) fascinating and informative music services (especially Pandora), make the Duet system well worth the thumbing effort involved. I was concerned about satellite ISP latency issues using Wildblue (satellite ISP service), but have experienced only a few momentary drop-outs (apparently quite common with this technology, you may need to increase the buffer time and radio station time-out settings in Squezecenter, this is easy to do). Note that the actual size of the two pieces included here is much smaller than they appear on screen. Bottom line, if you can set-up and navigate your cable TV remote, the Duet will be easy: try it!
