Our take on the Picture Keeper Automatic Photo Backup Device

by Tara W.

These days, you're far more likely to have photos stored on your computer than have negatives hidden in a box or printouts to hold onto your memories forever. Picture Keeper makes it easy to back up the images on your computer so you'll have a second copy of all your irreplaceable family photos.

The Picture Keeper is extremely easy to use, too. Plug it into a USB port on your computer and with one click, it searches for photo files and creates a backup copy. After you've added more pictures to your computer, connect the Picture Keeper again and it'll back up just the new photos without creating duplicates of your older photos. This is a great way to preserve memories for years to come.

Highlights:

  • 4GB storage holds up to 4,000 photos

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Dissapointed -it says can be used on multiple computers, but what it doesnt say is that it starts over and counts all the pics on the new computer, even the duplicates. So best to stay with one computer.
    Pros:
    seems to work
    Cons:
counts the duplicates on the other computer as new. Small and wont hold many high pics taken with higher better MB cameras

    Picture Keeper 16G

Written By Carol, KS on Tuesday, January 24, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased the picture keeper and to my disappointment it didn't work. I called Crutchfield and the rep said they would send me a replacement; which they did; the second one seems to be working just fine. I am pleased with it and would recommend anyone getting the product. I would suggest (I also purchased an 8 gig) to spend the extra and get the bigger picture keeper.
    Pros:
    Convenience
    Cons:
    Haven't found any

Excellent product. The value of this product is further enhanced by its ability to back up photographs stored on multiple computers in the household.
    Pros:
This product was so easy to use and did exactly what was represented. The ease and effectiveness to back up priceless photographs is of enormous piece of mind.

    Good concept!

Written By CatherineM, Charlottesville VA on Friday, August 26, 2011

I used Picture Keeper on 2 Mac computers. It stores pictures from files perfectly and as far as I can tell, it does not duplicate photos. Which is the design of the product! I wondered if if would collect video and iPhoto's. I did! The only challenge was it did not keep the files I created in iPhoto, it categorized the pictures by date imported. That makes it difficult to search for the photos I want to pull. Assuming Picture Keeper stores photos by "name" just don't change names. I have an older camera (Megapixels 8) and the 4GB stored approximately 2300 photos. Over all, a good product!
