Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Pioneer DEH-P7000BT

by Ken Nail

Music isn't enough for you — you want a CD receiver in your dash that takes convenience to a new level. Pioneer's DEH-P7000BT CD receiver sports built-in Bluetooth capability for the safety and convenience of hands-free calling, along with all the audio goodies you expect from Pioneer.

When you're not on a call, you'll appreciate the variety of musical options this receiver offers. It plays MP3, WMA, and AAC files on disc, controls a satellite radio tuner, and features a USB input, built-in iPod® controls, and a rear auxiliary input. When your iPod is connected to the USB input, the receiver bypasses your iPod's built-in digital-to-analog converter, using its high-quality DAC to deliver your music files with the highest fidelity possible. The Sound Retriever feature livens up flat-sounding music files by restoring information lost in compression, and the 3-band equalizer lets you zero in on the perfect tonal balance for your music by adjusting both output levels and frequencies.

Pioneer's elegantly designed Rotary Commander interface allows you to find your favorite songs or change system settings with a touch of a button and a twist of the large control knob. And system information, menus, and song titles show up bright and clear on the white LCD display — easy to read at any time of day. The 10-key wireless remote offers easy fingertip control over your system while you drive.

Connect amplifiers and subwoofers to the three sets of high-voltage preamp outputs to build a high-powered car audio system. High-pass and low-pass filters let you adjust the range of frequencies you send to your speaker setup.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check the adapter's "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

      Features
      Bluetooth Features
      External Device Controls

      Features

Overview: The Pioneer DEH-P7000BT is an AM/FM/CD receiver that can also play MP3, WMA, WAV, and AAC files on disc as well. It has a rear panel 3.5mm auxiliary input for portable devices, as well as a rear panel USB input for your iPod or other USB-based portable audio player or USB memory device. The receiver also has built-in Bluetooth Wireless Technology for the playback of Bluetooth Audio devices and pairing with Bluetooth Telephones (Note: not all Bluetooth phones are compatible). Additional accessories that are compatible with this unit include XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio (with an optional satellite radio tuner and antenna), and a multi-CD player. See section below on External Device Controls for details on compatibility.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the DEH-P7000BT are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the DEH-P7000BT are as follows:

      • CEA2006 Specs: 14 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
      • Continuous Power Output: 22 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 50Hz-15kHz, 5% THD)
      • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (or 50 watts x 2 channels at 4 ohms + 70 watts x 1 channel at 2 ohms for subwoofer)

MOSFET Amplifier: The DEH-P7000BT is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

Supertuner IIID AM/FM Tuner: The Supertuner IIID features Feed Forward Control, which avoids multi-path interference. This pre-detection of interference enables quick filter control and results in less distortion. In addition, the Supertuner IIID creates enhanced stereo during multi-path interference, unlike conventional tuners that collapse to mono. Digital processing reduces distortion, and improves Signal-to-Noise Ratio and stereo separation. Advanced analog technology improves signal processing sensitivity.

BSM (Best Stations Memory): The BSM (Best Stations Memory) function lets you automatically store the six strongest stations under preset buttons 1-6 of the currently tuned band. The tuner has 3 FM banks and 1 AM bank. You can store 6 presets for each bank giving you a total of 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets.

Local Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. There are 4 level of sensitivity for FM and two levels for AM. The higher settings allow reception of only the strongest stations, while lower settings let you receive progressively weaker stations.

MP3/WMA/WAV Playback: This unit can play MP3/WMA/WAV files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660 Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps, WMA files with a constant bit rate from 48-320 kbps, and WMA files with a variable bit rate from 48-384 kbps are supported. The unit is compatible with ID3 Tags and will display artist, folder, file, and album name, plus comments. Up to 8 directories, 99 folders and 999 files per disc are recognized by this unit.

AAC Decoding: This unit will playback AAC files encoded by iTunes recorded onto CDs, however files purchased from the iTunes Music Store (.m4p file extension) are not compatible. Tracks recorded at transmission rates of 16-320 kbps are playable on this unit.

Advanced Sound Retriever: The Advanced Sound Retriever automatically enhances compressed audio and restores the original richness of the recording. When Advanced Sound Retriever is on, the high frequency range is compensated to match the frequency response curve to the original sound. There are two available levels of the Sound Retriever effect.

EEQ (Easy EQ): The DEH-P7000BT is equipped with a 3-band parametric EQ with 6 preset EQ settings. You can boost or cut each frequency band by +/- 12dB at 2dB intervals. Features of the Easy EQ include:

      • Selectable Center Frequencies:
        • Low: 40, 80, 100, or 160 Hz
        • Mid: 200, 500, 1k, or 2k Hz
        • High: 3k, 8k, 10k or 12k Hz
      • Preset EEQ Settings: Powerful, Super Bass, Vocal, Natural, Custom, and EQ Flat
      • Selectable Q Factors: 2 Narrow, 1 Narrow, 1 Wide, and 2 Wide

Selectable Loudness Levels: Loudness compensates for deficiencies in the low and high frequencies at low volumes. You can choose from three levels of loudness:

      • Low: +3.5dB (100Hz), +3dB (10kHz)
      • Mid: +10dB (100Hz), +6.5dB (10kHz)
      • High: +11dB (100Hz), +11dB (10kHz)

List Button: The List button on the front panel allows you to the track title list, folder list, file list, preset channel list, or disc title list, depending upon the source. Once the List button is pressed, you can turn the multi-control knob to view each item on the list. To select the highlighted item, you can press the multi-control. This allows you to quickly make selections from most any source.

Auxiliary Input: The DEH-P7000BT is equipped with a rear panel 3.5mm stereo minijack auxiliary input for connecting external components, such as a portable MP3 player, DVD, or VCR. Once AUX 1 is selected as a source, you can change the source display of the input to any 10-character name. A second auxiliary device can be connected to this unit when an optional adapter is connected to the IP-Bus connector on the rear panel. Both Aux 1 and Aux 2 must be turned on in the setup menu in order to be selected as a source. See below for more information on the 2nd Auxiliary Input.

2nd Auxiliary Input Ready: In addition to the rear panel minijack Aux input (AUX 1), you can connect a second auxiliary component by connecting an IP-Bus/RCA connector. The CD-RB10 lets you connect one auxiliary component, and the CD-RB20 lets you connect an auxiliary component and a CD changer via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit. The 10-character name of the connected auxiliary component can be entered into memory, and will appear as you cycle through the sources.

Subwoofer Output: The unit has a pair of dedicated non-fading RCA subwoofer outputs with a low-pass filter, phase adjustment, and output level. When the subwoofer output is turned on, you can select the frequency of the 18dB/octave low pass filter (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz), select the subwoofer phase (normal/reverse), and the subwoofer gain (+6 to -24).

Switchable Rear Channel/Subwoofer Output: The rear speaker outputs can be set to provide full range output with full fading capability, or they can be set to provide non-fading subwoofer (low-pass) output. When the rear speaker outputs are set to subwoofer mode, the rear preamp outputs also switch from full range to subwoofer outputs. When set for subwoofer operation, you can connect the rear speaker leads directly to two small 4-ohm passive subwoofers or a dual voice coil sub with 4-ohm voice coils. If you prefer to use a single 2-ohm subwoofer, you can connect the woofer to one set of speaker leads, leaving the other set of rear leads disconnected. The maximum output provided when a 2-ohm load is connected to one set of leads is 70 watts.

High Pass Filter: If you do not want low frequency sounds to play from the front or rear speaker outputs, you can turn on the 12dB/octave High Pass Filter. The HPF has a selectable cutoff frequency (50, 63, 80, 100, or 125 Hz). Only frequencies higher than those in the selected range are output through the speakers.

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost function raises the level of sounds lower than 100Hz. You can select a desired level of bass boost between 0 and 6 (+12dB to 0dB).

Source Level Adjustment (SLA): This function lets you adjust the volume level of each source to prevent radical changes in volume when switching between sources. Settings are based on the volume level of the FM tuner, which remains unchanged. Each source can be independently adjusted from -4dB to +4dB.

Disc Naming: You can use the disc title input feature to store up to 48 CD titles in the unit's memory. Each title can be up to 10 characters long.

LED Display: The DEH-P7000BT features a black background with a one-line white LED display, which takes advantage of MP3, WMA, iPod, XM Radio, and Sirius, plus CD Text-encoded discs. This display makes it easy to read and cycle through the song title, artist, and other text used by these sources.

Ever Scroll: When the Ever Scroll feature is set to On, recorded text information scrolls continuously on the display. It will auto-scroll up to 64 characters. Set this feature to Off if you prefer the information to scroll only once.

Function Confirmation Tones: The receiver emits an audible beep tone each time a button is pressed. These function confirmation tones cannot be turned off.

Display Illumination/Clock Display: When the Clock Display has been turned on, pressing and holding the Source button turns off audio output, but the clock display remains on. When the Clock Display has been turned off, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely. Even if you have turned the radio completely off you can view the clock display be pressing the clock button. The clock will then remain On until you turn it back Off. When the unit is On you can select between the clock display or the audio track/tuner display.

Detachable Face Security: This unit features Detachable Face Security. If the front panel is not detached from the head unit within five seconds of turning off the ignition, a warning tone will sound. The warning tone can be turned off in the menu, if desired. Face-fixing holders and screws are supplied for making the face non-detachable, if desired.

Remote Control: The DEH-P7000BT comes with a wireless remote control (CXC9115). The remote allows you to control the volume, switch between sources, pause the CD, change the display, and adjust the audio. The attenuator button allows you to quickly lower the volume by about 90%. The head unit also has a 3.5mm minijack on the back panel for connecting an optional wired remote control, such as the CD-MR70 or CD-MR80 (130CDMR70 or 130CDMR80). In addition, the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel remote interface is compatible with this head unit.

      Bluetooth Features

Bluetooth Solution: The DEH-P7000BT is equipped with Pioneer's new Built-in Bluetooth Solution. You can make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver. When you're not utilizing hands-free calling, you can use Bluetooth Wireless Technology to control and listen to a Bluetooth audio player.

Note: Not all Bluetooth-capable phones are compatible with this receiver.

Microphone: During your wireless phone call, you can talk into the head unit's included microphone, and listen to the other party through the vehicle's speaker system. The microphone features a 13' cord that plugs into the back of the radio, and comes with an adjustable visor-mount clip.

Phone Pairing: Up to 3 Bluetooth-compatible cell phones can be registered to this head unit. You can transfer your entire phonebook at a single time to the head unit, which can memorize up to 3600 different numbers (400 persons x 3 contacts x 3 phone types).

Echo Cancellation: The receiver offers three levels of Advanced Echo Cancellation to keep phone calls sounding loud and clear.

Bluetooth Audio Players: In addition to supporting Bluetooth's Hands-Free Profile (HFP), the headunit also supports Bluetooth's wireless Audio Streaming Profile (A2DP) and Bluetooth's Audio Control Profile (AVRCP). These features allow you to wirelessly transmit music from your Bluetooth compatible cell-phone or portable audio player to the DEH-P7000BT so you can listen to your stored music files through your vehicle's audio system.

      External Device Controls

iPod Interface: The DEH-P7000BT can control and playback songs on an iPod. This unit supports only iPods with a standard Dock Connector. (Please see compatibility list below for your model and software version.) You can connect the iPod using the unit's USB input (a dock connector to USB cable, such as the one supplied with your iPod (472USBCABL), or the optional 130CDIU50, is required). When connected via USB, you can choose to control the iPod from the head unit or the iPod itself (some iPods cannot be controlled in this manner). You can still change songs from the head unit, even when you are controlling the iPod manually. You can perform multiple search functions, including playlist, genre, artist, and album searches. While connected and the ignition switch is set to ACC or ON, the USB connection will power and charge your iPod. The DEH-P7000BT is compatible with the following iPod models:

      • iPod video (5th generation)
      • iPod classic (80/120/160GB)
      • iPod nano (1st/2nd/3rd/4th generation)
      • iPod touch (1st/2nd generation)
      • iPhone/iPhone 3G

Note: This unit can control previous generations of iPod with the Pioneer CD-iB100II iPod adapter (130IB100II).

For Sirius there are two options; connect the SC-C1 SiriusConnect Universal Vehicle tuner and the CD-SB10 Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio interface (package item number 700SIRPION), or use the Pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio interface (item number 130CDSB10) and the SIRIUS dock-and-play adapter (item number 607SCVDOC1) along with a compatible portable SIRIUS radio. A subscription to XM or Sirius, plus the proper antenna is required in order to receive satellite radio programming. The satellite radio tuners connect via the IP-Bus connector on the back of the head unit.

IP-Bus Changer Controls: You can add an IP-Bus-compatible 6-disc or 12-disc Pioneer CD changer, and control it from the head unit. The unit feature the following CD-changer features.

      • ITS (Instant Track Selection) Programming: The ITS function can be used to program automatic playback of up to 99 tracks per disc for up to 100 discs. With changers sold before the CDX-P1250 and CDX-P650, up to 24 tracks can be stored in the playlist.
      • Direct Disc Selection: You can directly select discs 1-6 by pressing the corresponding button number on the front panel or remote. Discs 7-12 can be selected by pressing and holding the corresponding button number, such as button 1 for disc 7, etc.
      • CD Track Scan: The beginning of each track on the selected disc plays for about 10 seconds before moving onto the next track and continues until you make your selection.
      • CD Text Display: When used with a CD Text-compatible Pioneer CD changer, this unit will display the titles of CD Text encoded discs that are played in the changer. When playing a CD Text disc on a CD Text compatible changer, you cannot switch to the Disc Title Input mode. CD Text disc titles, artist names and track titles longer than 8 characters may be scrolled once to reveal the entire string of text by holding down the Display button.
      • CD Sound Quality Adjustment: Using the "COMP" (compression) and "DBE" (dynamic bass emphasis) functions, you can adjust the playback quality of the changer. Each function may be set to one of two levels or off. The "COMP" function compresses the audio signal to eliminate distortions caused by the imbalances between the loudest and softest sounds when played at high volumes. The "DBE" function boosts bass frequencies to give your music a more full sound.

Note: For these functions to work, they must be supported by the Pioneer CD changer.

Great with Iphone; Rotary button design still needs work

Written By Trina, Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 16, 2010

I have had this model installed for about a year now and I love it. The remote is easy to use and you can memorize the keys easily. The bluetooth works great. Sometime I don't even know where my phone is but it doesn't matter as long as the stereo is synced. No problem syncing 2 and 3 phones. Phone book entries are a hassle so I just dont do it. I have an Iphone and I play music and take send calls with ease. The rotary button is still a hassle because you have to hit it just right to answer the phone. We also stream music to the radio and that works good too. I haven't had problems with burned cd's. Love it so much I think I need new speakers!

      All around good head unit

I bought this head unit a little more than a year ago. I was waiting to have it for a while before decided how I felt about it. Some of the pros are the direct usb connection for the ipod, meaning no extra adapters or special cords need to be purchased. The bluetooth is solid, I especially like the fact that it recalls the volume used during the last call instead of the volume of the radio, which could be startling when receiving a call while listening to music. I do have to say that the "one knob does all" approach takes some getting used to, but once you get it down it becomes second nature. One annoying thing that I found is that on bright summer days when the sun shines directly into the car you can not see the display at all. Other than that its a solid unit, easy to install and reliable.

The way the controls are designed, it could only be used safely on an aircraft or
boat. All those stupid menus make this unit usable only for the most basic
functions if you are driving unless you like to stop every time you need to adjust
      something.
      Dumb!

I hate this radio for all the reasons that people have already mentioned and the fact that I invested the money for the install kit, xm radio and the radio it'self. After like almost two years - I am ready to take a hammer at it just to get it out of my car. We should receive credits towards new units.

      Pioneer DEH-P7000BT

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The pros of this unit are that it has lots of features, USB, Bluetooth, HD Radio Ready, Ipod controls, etc.

The cons are that the controls are very counterintuitive and difficult to learn. For example, if you are listening to music and you want to pause it, you have to go through several menus and clicks to just pause a cd.

I realize the iphone 3G is not listed as compatible, but I'll post my issues in case someone want to use it with the iphone. I'm having trouble with the DEH-P7000BT and iPhone 3G S using bluetooth only. The iphone is both a phone and bluetooth audio player, so I should not need to plug the usb to the head unit. If I set the head unit source to BT Audio, I can listen to my music on the iphone as a bluetooth audio player. When a call come in the audio mutes, but the phone call does not come out on my car speakers. Even though the iphone is also connected to the head unit as a phone. (Both the BT phone light and the BT headphone light are lit on the head unit).

The way it should work is that I can listen to music from the iphone via bluetooth audio (not USB), when a call comes in the music would pause and I should be able to take the call over the head unit via bluetooth and then go back to the music when the call ends. That does not happen.

I bought this unit as a recommendation from a co-worker. I wanted the usb and bluetooth hands free phone. Easy to install, but operation manual on cd is the worst idea ever. Controls are difficult to get used to, but in time I'm sure I will get it down. Now that it is in my vehicle and operating, my major complaint is the screen is virtually impossible to see during the day! All in all I prefer Pioneer products to others. Crutchfield is an awesome company to do business with and I will definitely be a return customer.

great all around stereo- may be tricky to pair bluetooth (see comment)

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

first off- i bought a kenwood before the pioneer planning to save some money- what a mistake. it was hard to use, the remote was bulky, i couldn't figure out which button to push pick up a call, and worst of all it overheated after 20 minutes of loud play.

everything works good and its user friendly. a multi line display would be preferred but no biggie. the only tricky part to this unit is getting it to pair (initally connect) with your cell phone. fyi i have an lg dare and it works fine. be sure both the unit says 'searching' or whatever and your phone says 'searching' or whatever at the EXACT SAME TIME or they won't pair successfully after you enter the '0000' code!!! they might find each other otherwise but the code won't work if they both weren't originally 'searching' at the same exact time. i am pretty familiar with bluetooth and this was the only thing i've ever had issues connecting with.

also- don't be skeptical about bluetooth issues- once they connect the first time it connects automatcially forever afterwards (whenever the unit is turned on or off)- just leave the phone in your pocket and drive!

      Happy with this radio

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio because I wanted a radio that (1) had hands free phone feature, and (2) digital music will only get more popular. I wanted to be able to play music in any format.

The good: This unit will handle your i-pod, USB, blue tooth, aux with plenty of power, phone feature works well and is clear on both ends.

The Bad: controls are hard to get use to, I have had my radio for about 2 mo. and I am able to run the system easily, but it took a while to learn. The controls are not consistent. Sometimes you have to press up or down for the choices and press the center to select while other times you press left right, while other times you rotate the dial, it just depends which menu you are in. The owners manual, what is pioneer thinking, lets put it on a disk so I can't read it in my truck (I don't have a laptop) I had to print the book from the disk then all of the papers were everywhere so I folded them in half and put staples in the middle (look a book). I would think that it would have been easier and cheaper for Pioneer to have a printing company do this. The printed directions are just about as dumb as putting the thing on a disk. It is filled with things like look in section A, section A says look in section C, section C will direct you to section B"

In a nutshell I wanted a radio with all of the options and plenty of power, and that is just what I got. The controls take awhile to get use to. The instructions just suck.

      Excellent Features!

Written By Jack, Roanoke, Va on Thursday, May 14, 2009
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First things first: READ THE MANUAL!!!
when you get the unit print the manual off and get a basic feel for the
controls and functions. If you go into it blind the multi-function knob can be
      confusing.
*to correct other reviewers there IS a pause and you can scroll through the
iPod by Artist, Album, Song title, Playlist, Podcasts ect. There is also a
feature where you can control the iPod FROM the iPod itself. Also the unit
will read more than 99 folders, however, you need to make sure you have
them in the correct format so look it up.
Connecting bluetooth - for my phone (enV2) I had to put it into discovery
mode and let the head unit find the phone. The password was 0000 i
believe, or something easy like that. In order to get my contacts to transfer
I had to use the "send name card" feature in the phone under contacts and
options. I was able to send all of my contacts at once and it nly took a few
minutes. if you add a contact after transfering your contacts you have to
manually add that number to the unit. the reception on my side isnt perfect
but its just as good as the reception on any cell phone ive had (and my lack
or after market speakers probably have something to do with it). Whoever
im talking to on the other line always says they can hear me clearly as if im
      talking on my phone.
iPod, CD, and tuner all work great. i have yet to have a problem.
      Overall 5 stars. Excellent device!

I bought this unit to replace my Alpine since it has built in Bluetooth and the HD radio option. This unit is a very nice unit. A few flaws are the 250GB and no partition hard drive limit and the 400 contacts with 3 numbers each in the address book. Other then that I love this unit. Simple to install into my 03 Dodge Ram with the Crutchfield wiring guide. Produces a great sound, quick response to commands, and the telephone. It repairs withmy phone usually inside of 5 seconds and never misses a beat. Audio quality is fantastic. One person even thought I was on a land line.

      Great headunit

Written By Jonathan, Ohio on Friday, May 01, 2009

I recently had my old Pioneer unit stolen and had used this unit in a friends truck before so I knew this was the one I wanted. Had it next day air mailed, right on time, Crutchfield is amazing.

This unit, can literally do anything you want. It has preset or custom EQ settings, depending on your preferences. You can change both your HPF and LPF on the unit, great especially if you have a sub, as you can change the range with the music. USB operation is a breeze, just make sure you have the drive formatted in FAT32. Kind of a pain, but nothings perfect and it takes literally 2 seconds to reformat. I love the remote, you can change anything on that little remote, which makes it great while driving in the city. Once you get the buttons down, you'll have no problems. Good quality unit and will definitely recommend to anyone looking for a new headunit. And it also has changeable backgrounds...kinda fun to mess with. Haven't gotten the bluetooth up yet, but I really don't need it.

Side note, Crutchfield's install guides are great. Having never taken the dash apart, it helped a lot.

This stereo is just what I needed, no more pulling the phone out of my pocket are using those annoying headsets. I also don't have to mess with the ipod anymore, just put it in the glovebox and select what i want directly through the stereo interface. Now I have more ability to watch the road than always trying to mess with devices.

      Awesome Receiver!! Great Features

Written By Michael, Weston, Fl. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great receiver, first time installer, toyota tacoma, took five hours, only because I was racing with excitement and forgot to hook up the simple things. Crutchfield, makes it easy, had a small problem and tech support cleared it up real quick, even sent me an email with pics! Pros: This unit may seem a little complicated to operate, I still have not grasped all the features, bluetooth works fine (palm centro phone). I have my mic install upper left hand corner of windshield on pillar, works great, even doing 50 with windows down!! People say they hear me with no problems!!

cons: really none so far except a little complicated to operate at times. BOTTOM LINE: BUY IT, TREAT YOURSELF, WITH THE FREE INSTALL KIT, IT IS A GREAT BUY COMPARED TO OTHER STORES. BESIDES, YOU WILL NOT GET TECH SUPPORT LIKE THEY GIVE YOU, I WILL BE BACK!!!!!!

Best bang for your buck when you want extra goodies!

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I researched many BT radios, and many were add-on "options", which to me meant more parts to hide in my already cramped vehicle (05 Hyundai Tucson). I wanted an all in one solution without breaking the bank! I read the review on this radio and the features it was capable of and I was sold!

Install was easy. Solder the wires to the supplied car adapter and install it! I added the XM module (I Know, one more part to hide) and ran the cables. Overall it took me about 2 hours to make sure everything was clean and correct.

BT handsfree was a bit quirky at first (my palm centro is weird about pairing, and I hard reset before realizing that I can go the other way and have the radio search IT) and it linked no problem. I called my office line and left myself a message to test the mic location (I wanted to mount it on the blinker post but you hear the click when I activate, so it'll have to be relocated).
I've never been a "read the manual" kinda guy. I've been able to push buttons and memorize what does what fairly easy. I've got most of the basics down but the manual is on the laptop to get the inner-workings down.

USB - Ipod connection is the coolest thing ever! In the past I've wanted to add something like this but the controls were always clunky and slow. This thing grabbed it, loaded the playlist that was already running and went with it! Stevie Wonder never sounded so good!!

      Pioneer DEH-P7000BT

Installed in a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was easy. It's a nice deck, sounds good, and USB works well. I have yet to use a CD in it. Cons so far:

      1. There is no pause.
      2. When you're in the folder list view, it doesn't scroll.
      3. It's unnecessary to scroll if the line of text fits within the display.
      4. No option for Song-Artist in the scroll options.
      5. Going into folder list view starts at Folder 01, not where you're at.
      6. No gapless support.

I think the firmware is upgradeable. I would love to see these fixed. Or how about releasing the source code?

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As others have pointed out, the manual is a joke. Pioneer was apparently too cheap to provide a written manual, so you have to print it out from the CD and bring it with you to the car to try to figure out how to work this unit. (Either that or run it on your laptop.) When you've done that, you'll find the manual is very hard to understand. Not only is it filled with typographical errors, but it appears to have been written by somebody at the home office in Japan, relying on his 9th-grade English class.

The controls are far from intuitive (and the aforementioned manual is little help in enabling you to figure them out).

But worst of all, I can't use the unit for the one purpose I bought it for: handsfree Bluetooth connection with my cell phone. After I had it installed, I was too busy to try to connect the unit with my phone until after the Crutchfield no-questions-asked warranty had expired. I went to the installer, and they couldn't figure out how to make the two devices work together. So I called Pioneer customer service and spent about an hour on the phone with them, and they gave me a lot of hooey about how they think their unit is incompatible with my phone. Then, as if miraculously, I got the devices to pair, but now when someone calls the phone when it's paired, their voice comes over the car's speakers, but they can't hear anything I say. I feel I've wasted a lot of money (including installation cost).

Full of features, but hard to use

Written By Jere, Dardanelle, AR on Thursday, March 12, 2009
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is my first Pioneer head unit, (all previous units have been Kenwood). I've installed a lot of them for others, but this is my first personal unit. This item really sounds good, and I wanted something with built-in iPod controls and Bluetooth. The iPod controls are great and works perfect with my 80G iPod Classic. I like having the Bluetooth, too, but I don't like having to "grant" the use of my phone everytime I turn on the ignition. I also didn't like having to mount the mic for it, but I ended using a blank panel on the dash of my '01 Silverado (just above the pass. air bag sw.) and back mounted the mic and usb connection, and they look great, and don't hang loose.

The multi-function buttons and knob are hard to get used to, but once I get all my settings done, it gets a little easier to operate, but I miss having the 6 buttons for favorites that most stereos always had.

The sound is fantastic though, as I run all my audio signals through old Kicker amps I've had for a decade, and Kenwood eXcelon speakers that are just as old. Overall, I'm going to like it, and I hope that I'll soon develope that "second nature" feel like I've had with previous head units.

      Pioneer DEH-P7000BT

Written By steve, Lafayette,IN on Sunday, March 01, 2009

I replaced a Pioneer DEH P6000UB in my work vehicle with the 7000BT
and there 's really no difference in sound. I just wanted the luxury of built-
in bluetooth. Did not want an add-on bluetooth accessory box as the
reviews were not favorable. Call quality on the 7000BT is excellent. I did
have some issues after installation with my phone (LG) not working with
the receiver but they turned out to be phone issues.
As I stated, sound quality between the 6000UB and 7000Bt is the same.
They sound great. The only external amplifier in my system is a 100 watt
rms Kenwood powered sub. The HPF on the receiver is set at 100 hz and
the sub handles all the bass while the Blaubunkt and Alpine fullrange
speakers receive mids and highs from the built-in amp. It WILL ROCK!
The 7000 does have just a 1 line display, but that's ok. It's easier to see
in bright sunlight As for the 6000UB, I'll just put it in my other car. Did
have to switch out receiver wiring harness as the 2 were not compatible.
Very satisfied with this product, highly recommended. As always, very
      satisfied with Crutchfield

Great headunit but would benefit from a better display

Written By Adam, PA on Thursday, February 26, 2009

I installed this headunit a few weeks ago and am generally happy with it. It's definitely better than my factory stereo. I was looking for a stereo with built-in iPod control, but the built-in bluetooth caught my eye. Both of these features work very well. Pair my phone (lg env2) was easy, transferring the phonebook was a little tricky.

As others have said, the multi-function wheel is a little hard to master. A few weeks in, I've got the basic functions down, but still need to pull out the manual for any of the advanced functions.

My only complaint with the unit so far would be that it would benefit from a higher quality display, at least something with 2-3 lines of text. I have a lot of music on my 80gb iPod and utilize the shuffle feature often...it would be nice to be able to see the song and artist at once without having to push a button. At the very least the option to scroll "song-artist-album".

Overall, I'd recommend this stereo if you're looking for built-in bluetooth and ipod control. If ipod control and a better display are more important to you, go with the Alpine iDA-X100.
