Clarion

Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Clarion CX501

by Zak Billmeier

Why settle for a smaller receiver when you've got room for more? Clarion's CX501 CD receiver strikes a handsome pose in your double-DIN dash opening, and you can tailor its look to your vehicle's interior by choosing from 728 possible illumination colors. Throw in iPod® and iPhone® control, built-in Bluetooth® for hands-free calls, plus a 2-line display, and you're ready for the open road.

Talk hands-free
It's never a good idea to fumble for your phone while you're driving. Built-in Bluetooth lets you conduct calls without taking your hands off the wheel, as you talk naturally and hear your caller over your speakers. After initial pairing, the CX501 connects to your phone automatically every time you turn on your car, so you can leave your phone in your pocket or purse and concentrate on driving. Plus if your phone or another device supports it, you can stream music straight into the stereo.

Great for your iPod or iPhone
When you plug your player into this receiver's USB slot, you can control your iPod with the large, central control knob, plus view song info as it scrolls across the 2-line display. You'll enjoy sound quality that's superior to plugging into an auxiliary input, and your player stays charged while you drive.

Enjoy great sound
You'll find some useful tools for adjusting the powerful sound delivered by the Clarion's built-in amplifier. The versatile Magna Bass EX bass boost will add depth to your sound without getting muddy. The 3-band parametric equalizer rules over the simple tone controls found on most factory radios, offering pinpoint control over the highs, mids, and lows. Three sets of high-power, 4-volt preamp outputs send a clean signal to aftermarket amps and subs. A built-in low-pass filter lets you control the character of your bass, while a high-pass filter trims the extreme low bass out of your front and rear speakers so they play more efficiently.

Use the convenient front auxiliary input to plug in a Dock & Play satellite radio, an MP3 player, or any other portable audio player. You can also play your store-bought and recordable CDs, plus discs you've loaded with MP3 and WMA files.

Adding on
You can add an HD Radio tuner to dial in the great sound quality and expanded programming choices of participating AM/FM stations. The CX501 lets you tap into SIRIUS satellite radio by adding the SCC1 tuner — unlike most receivers, it plugs in directly without a brand-specific adapter cable, saving you some cash. Of course, a subscription is required to hear satellite radio programming.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use an adapter (not included) to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Clarion stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Clarion, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. Check the "Accessories" tab for compatible adapters.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver.

    Display Features

2-DIN Chassis: The Clarion CX501 has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as "Double DIN" or size DD), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. The unit can be ISO-mounted using your vehicle's factory radio brackets and the supplied hardware. There is also an optional custom double-DIN sleeve (0202DBKT, sold separately) available for this unit that will allow you to mount the CX501 in a custom 4" opening. As always, please consult the Crutchfield Car Selector to verify fit with your vehicle.

728-Variable Color Illumination: The CX501 is equipped with a high visibility, 728 Variable-Color Illumination LCD that allows numbers and characters to be displayed clearly in all lighting conditions. You can select the exact color you want for the head unit's display and button illumination to match your car's instrument panel or personal preference. You can adjust the display contrast to match the angle of installation of this unit between 1 to 16.

Large Rotary Control Knob: The unit's large 3-way rotary control knob, combined with the ergonomically symmetrical design of the unit, helps to provide equally comfortable operation from the driver side or passenger side. Its intuitiveness and natural feel minimizes stress for the operator and contributes to driving safety.

Illumination Dimmer: The receiver's display automatically dims to a preset brightness when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. The wiring harness includes an orange/white lead that should be connected to the vehicle's parking light circuit in order for the dimmer feature to operate.

Screen Saver: This unit is provided with a Screen Saver function which allows you to show various kinds of patterns and characters in the operation status indication area of the display in a random order. You can turn this function on or off. If the button operation is performed with the screen saver function "On", the operation display corresponding to the button operation is shown for about 30 seconds and then the display returns to the screen saver display.

Anti-Theft System: Since the CX501 does not have detachable face, this unit features Clarion's Anti-Theft System (CATS). CATS allows you to create a 4-digit code that must be entered to operate the unit if it is ever disconnected from your vehicle's battery.

Anti-Theft Indicator: The red Anti-theft indicator on the unit's front-panel is a function for preventing theft. When the CX501 and your vehicle is turned completely off, this indicator will blink to deter theft.

    Audio Section

MOSFET Amplifier: The Clarion CX501 is equipped with a MOSFET amplifier. Compared to conventional power supplies, the MOSFET amplification circuit is smaller and more efficient, and it delivers increased power with less distortion and absolutely zero on/off switching noise. More power means louder and cleaner music at higher volumes because you're not pushing the limits of the amplification circuit.

CEA2006 Compliant: The power specifications for the CX501 are compliant with the CEA2006 Mobile Amplifier Power Testing and Measurement standards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards were developed as a way to equitably compare power specs from model to model and between manufacturers. The power output specs for the CX501 are as follows:

    • CEA2006 Specs: 21 watts RMS x 4 channels (at 4 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 1% THD-N)
    • Maximum Power Output: 50 watts x 4 channels (180 watts total)

BeatEQ: In addition to providing 3 preset equalization patterns (Bass Boost, Impact, and Excite), Clarion's BeatEQ lets you freely customize the level and range of the bass, midrange and treble portions of each pattern. You can tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience.

    • Bass Boost: Bass is emphasized +/-3.
    • Impact: Bass and treble are emphasized +/-3.
    • Excite: Bass, midrange, and treble are emphasized +/-3.
    • Custom: Adjusts the bass, midrange, and treble independently +/-7.
      • Bass: You can set the effected bass frequency to 50Hz, 100Hz, or 200Hz and the Q-factor to 0.7, 1, 1.4, or 2
      • Midrange: You can set the effected midrange frequency to 500Hz, 1.0kHz, or 2.0kHz and the Q-factor to 0.7, 1, 1.4, or 2
      • Treble: The effected treble frequency can be set to 5kHz, 10kHz, or 15kHz, and the Q-factor to 0.7, 1, 1.4, or 2
    • Off (Flat): Bass, midrange, and treble are set to 0.

Magna Bass EX (Extend): The Magna Bass Extend feature does not adjust the low frequencies like the normal sound adjustment function, but emphasizes the deep bass frequencies to provide you with a dynamic sound. This circuit boosts bass at an ultra-low frequency of about 50Hz, creating a rich, deep, defined bass rather than the muddy, booming bass of a standard loudness control. What is more, boost levels are dependent on the system volume, resulting in balanced system response and dynamic bass reproduction.

6ch/4V RCA Output: The Clarion CX501 features 6ch/4V RCA line level outputs (Front/Rear/Sub). The head unit is able to connect a full range of speakers, ranging from tweeter and mid-range to subwoofers. The full set of line outputs allows integration into a wide range of potential systems, and is ready to support future system expansions.

Subwoofer Controls: The non-fading subwoofer preamp output features an independent level control (+/-6) and phase adjustment (normal/reverse).

Built-in Crossovers: The Clarion CX501 is equipped with built-in low-pass and high-pass crossovers.

    • Low-Pass Subwoofer Filter: The Low-Pass Filter (LPF) for the subwoofer preamp output (when activated) will send only the low frequency range through the preamp outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. The low-pass filter can be set to 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range).
    • High-Pass Filter: The CX501 features a High-Pass Filter (HPF) for the unit's front & rear channels, via speaker-output or preamp-output. You can adjust the high-pass filter from 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, or Through (full-range). The HPF prevents low bass notes from distorting your front & rear speakers. The high-pass filter setting effects both the front & rear channels of the head unit.

Beep: The in-dash head unit provides an audible beep to confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.

    Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Clarion CX501 is equipped with a built-in AM/FM tuner offering 18 FM station presets and 6 AM station presets. Stations can be stored manually or automatically.

Instant Station Recall (ISR): You can store one radio station in Instant Station Recall (ISR) memory and recall it from any mode (except Power Off). Once the ISR station has been recalled, you cannot tune to another station without first disengaging the ISR function. You can, however, switch to another source.

Preset Scan: Preset scan receives the stations stored in the unit's preset memory in order. This function is useful when searching for a desired preset station.

Local Seeking: When Local seeking is turned "On", only those radio stations with strong radio signal can be received.

HD Radio Ready: With an optional Clarion THD301 HD Radio tuner (020THD301, sold separately), you will be able to receive digital AM/FM broadcasts from local stations where available. This new technology will significantly improve audio quality and reception, as well as include information such as artist name and song titles or traffic news, viewable on the receiver's display. The add-on HD Radio tuner includes iTunes Tagging capability, so if you hear a song on the radio that you like, you can tag it to download later from the iTunes Store.

Note: Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver to this receiver:

    • Sirius Satellite Radio: To receive Sirius Satellite Radio, you can connect the optional SC-C1 Sirius Connect Universal Vehicle Tuner (607SCC1, sold separately) directly to the head unit's Sirius direct connection (no proprietary interface required).
    • Auxiliary Input: A portable XM or Sirius Satellite Radio receiver can also be connected to the head unit via the front-panel auxiliary input.

Note: A subscription is also required to receive satellite radio programming from Sirius or XM.

    Disc Playback

Disc Compatibility: The unit features a single disc player that will playback CD-Audio, CD-Text, and finalized CD-R/CD-RW audio discs.

MP3/WMA Playback: The unit can play MP3 (8-320 kbps/VBR) and WMA (5-320 kbps) files recorded onto CD-R and CD-RW discs using ISO9660 Level 1 or 2, Joliet, Romeo, or Apple ISO formats. Folder Select: This function allows you to select a folder containing MP3/WMA files and start playing from the first track in the folder.

Playback Functions: The CX501 provides Repeat, Random, & Scan playback functions.

    • Scan Play: This function allows you to locate and play the first 10 seconds of all the tracks recorded on a CD or the first 10 seconds of the first track of all the folders on an MP3/WMA disc.

    • Random Play: This function allows you to play all tracks recorded on a disc or in a folder in a random order.

Last Position Memory: If you turn off the unit while a disc is playing, it will resume playback at the stopping point when it is turned on again.

Auto Reload: When a CD is ejected and left sticking out of the CD slot for 15 seconds, the unit automatically reloads the CD to protect if from damage.

Mounting: For proper CD playback you must install the unit within 30-degrees of horizontal.

    USB/iPod/Aux Connectivity

USB Port: The front-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to connect and play USB (1.1/2.0) Mass Storage devices loaded with MP3 and WMA files. MP3 files with a bit rate from 8-320 kbps and WMA files with a bit rate from 5-320 kbps that are formatted with FAT will be supported. 2006 Tundra

Written By Bryan S., Santa Maria, CA on Wednesday, June 12, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit was easy to install. Pairing was a little difficult and navigation is difficult. The unit plays music very well when connected from my phone with USB, however when using Bluetooth, music skips very badly like a scratched CD. If I toggle back and forth from the tuner to Bluetooth, the music might start playing normally, or might not(annoying). The integrated microphone has worked well so far with no problems as I have read in other reviews. The installation kit fits nice, I was worried about a small gap on the top of the unit, but it is okay. The unit sounds a lot better than my stock stereo.
    Pros:
    Easy to install, looks, sound.
    Cons:
    Playing music with Bluetooth.

    outstanding unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My plan was to start with replacing the head unit, then speakers, then get an amp. No need for speakers or amp - the Clarion brought my factory speakers to life! Only negative is the cheap, no fit-worth--a-dang adapter kit Crutchfield gave me. What a piece o junk. The instructions suck too - they tell you to cut off ALL the mounting tabs, and 2 steps later tell you to mount the faceplate with the tabs-Which you just cut off!
    Pros:
    Sound quality!

    Can't understand the positive reviews

Written By Mike D, NJ on Friday, May 31, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ugh. I hate this receiver. My 2002 (2002!!!!!) stock honda receiver was better than this junk. Terrible reception compared to the stock receiver. Playing CDs, MP3s, it sounds fine, but there are so many indications of poor design. As stated by many others, the Bluetooth sucks. The Bluetooth feature as well as all the good reviews was the main reason I chose this model. But any time I use Bluetooth my call either gets dropped or the other person can't hear me. I'm better off using speakerphone. Another gripe is the buttons and functionality. Some things aren't intuitive at all, and some things are just way too difficult. You'd think it would be easy to tune your way through FM stations. Just spin that front dial and whiz your way through, right? Quickly assign all your favorite presets? Nope. You need to click the tune-up (or tune-down) button, one station at a time. Just don't click too fast or it won't register it. Want to turn the power off? You need to press on the source button... for 3 seconds. Let go too soon and you'll have to cycle through 6 or so different sources (radio / cd / aux / sat / etc) before getting back to where you were, then you can press for 3 seconds and turn the thing off. Or just turn the volume down, that works better. (srsly how to do you screw up the on / off feature?) .
    Pros:
    Sounds good
    Cons:
Reception terrible compared to stock receiver Bluetooth connection is terrible. Button functions (power, tuning) are awful and not well thought out.

    Nice Receiver

Written By Jeffrey D., Liverpool, New York on Thursday, May 16, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this head to replace the factory unit in our 2009 Corolla. We/I use this unit primarily for the Sirius Satellite Radio (Not XM). This eliminated the use of my external plug n play unit witch would lose sound quality using just the FM frequencies on the factory unit. Activated Sirius through the website which was easy to do. All I did was switch units seeing how I already had a scrip. Definitely going to purchase another one soon to in my Tacoma.
    Pros:
Great had unit at an exceptional price.
    Cons:
The user guide does not tell you everything. Some of the features you actually have play with it to figure it out. Depending on your choice of backlighting color, you may be able to see it in the sun.

    Great Unit

Written By Josh, Mountain View, CA on Monday, May 06, 2013
Installed in a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this unit to replace the OEM stereo in my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta GLI. I wanted something that looked like it belonged in the car, not too flashy but still cool. The look of this fits perfectly. Turns out the default red backlighting option is a perfect fit for this car. I got the unit so that I could have Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone 5 for music steaming and hands free calling. Both work nearly flawlessly. Once paired with the phone it automatically connects within about 15 seconds of turning the key. Sometimes I don't even take the phone of my pocket, though there are occasional connection issues then. I keep my phone in my left pocket, so it might be fine in my right pocket. The built in mic is excellent. People can tell I sound different, but not bad at all. The noise canceling is very good. Siri and dictation work pretty well with it too, though you still have to press the home button on your phone to activate it. There is no button on the unit that activates Siri. The play/pause and forward/back buttons work flawlessly with the music app, pandora, even NPR streaming. It all just works, and works reliably. My only complaint is that the display is kinda clunky. Someone commented its about as good as your digital alarm clock at home, which is a pretty accurate description. But, on the other hand it's classy and fits the OEM look just fine. I use the display on my phone for info anyway. Installed myself, Crutchfield customer service was very helpful.
    Pros:
It works and works consistently. Bluetooth connectivity is excellent. Sound quality is a great improvement over my OEM unit. EQ settings are good, especially the bass boost. Tight and clean. Hands free calling works great, built-in mic totally does the job. Makes installation much easier. Looks classy, isn't overly showy. Interface is elegant and uncomplicated. I'm very happy!
    Cons:
Display is a bit clunky and outdated. Dot matrix display would be better, but its not a deal breaker. Menu navigation takes a little learning, but then makes sense. FM radio reception could be better. More crackly than my OEM unit, but again not a deal breaker. I can just stream the same station from my iPhone via Bluetooth! Wish it had a mute button.

    Solid Unit

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This head unit overall is solid. Before I purchased the clarion, I read probably 250 out the 300 reviews on here. The biggest complaints that I saw were the display being to dim and hard to see, navigating through the menus, and the bluetooth mic not havign very good quality. This is hpw I feel about these items. 1. The screen is not the brightest and most visible screen that I have ever seen, especially since I am used to Pioneer products who have extremely bright and colorful displays, but adjusting the contrast and color does make it viewable during the day.Its not amazing, but you can see it. 2. Navigating throught the menus is not the easiest on this unit. It doestake some getting used to and seems to go against your natuaral instinct of button pushing. I feel like they could have made it much simpler. The manual is clear on how to operate the unit though. 3. The bluetooth mic is fine. I have called 3 different people while using the bluetooth mic and all of them said I was clear and loud. They compare the quality to being in between having the phone against your cheek and talking and speaker phone. But I was definitely able to be heard. I did a comparison with my buddies 2013 Honda CRV with the factory Bluetooth mic and the clarion was much better sound quality. Overall the unit is solid.
    Pros:
Easy bluetooth connectivity, Quality sounding bluetooth, 6 channles of output
    Cons:
Screen isnt as bright as it could be, menus can be tricky to navigate at first

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. The handsfree calling w/ Bluetooth has great audio quality. It looks very cool as well. I have to give Crutchfield props for their support staff. I called them 3-4 times about this and they were very helpful. They walked me through troubleshooting everything, from wiring to dismounting a metal bracket inside my car to make the unit fit. They knew where all the screws and wires were in my car. I would have been screwed had I gone with some other place to save few bucks.
    Pros:
Value for the money Cool design User friendly
    Cons:
Bluetooth music seems to skip a lot. Plugging in the USB cable is much better. I think it's silly that Bluetooth audio does not automatically play my music if I turn off the car and back on. It just connects and I have to press play Bluetooth music does not display the name of the song playing or any info. just says bluetooth. USB does. The display can either display the clock or the source/info. the source/info should have a small clock somewhere.

Built in mic is horrible. People are always complaining they can't hear us. Trying to navigate to where you make adjustments you need the owners manual to go step by step. Calling Clarion there is not a toll free number. I have got the same rude guy who acts if you are disturbing him instead of he has a job to help you.
    Pros:
Sounds good even with stock speakers

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this radio to replace my factory bose system in my infiniti i35. Installation was easy with the free wiring harness provided by crutchfield and also the antenna adapter. And of course a little help from tech support. It has a sleek design which will not dissapoint and its colors are vibrant at night. I love the usb port for my ipod but i dont think im going to use it because i can now play my ipod over bluetooth which was incredibly easy to pair both. I agree the menus are kind of annoying but its barely noticeable with all the other great features of the radio.
    Pros:
Bluetooth telephone/audio. usb port. awesome colors. sound quality. price. etc
    Cons:
Menus are a bit annoying but i had no problem figuring out what to do after a few tries.

Satisfied - just a few minuscule gripes

Written By FujativeOCR, Fresno, CA on Tuesday, April 02, 2013
Installed in a 2011 Jeep Patriot
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm happy with this CD player. I chose it primarily because the chrome accented knobs match my interior controls perfectly and the display and button colors can be adjusted to match. The display is plenty bright, contrary to many reviews. I can see it just fine in daylight with sunglasses on. Plus it has a Contrast Adjustment and an Auto-Dimmer with headlights.

So my gripes. Internal Crossovers can not be set to specific channels. I have 2.5" and 3.5" speakers running off deck power, and 6.5" and 6x9" running off an amp. It would be nice to set one crossover point for the deck outputs, and another or full range for the amp. My other gripe, is it was advertised to work with my factory steering wheel controls when matched with the PAC Canbus module (sold separately). Well the module did integrate the controls to the deck, but they are not the same controls as factory. The track adjustment and volume switched sides of the wheel. Volume is on the left and track up/down is on the right. Opposite of factory. . My preset button is now a mute. I think the only button that stayed the same is the Source button. So do my steering wheel control buttons still work? Yes. Do they perform the functions they used to? No.

Last thing, the 4 Volt Outputs might not actually be 4 volts. My sub amp gain range is 200mv to 3.5v, and I have to turn the gain up about 3/4 to the 200mv side. If they were 4 volts, I'd think my gains would be almost completely down.
    Pros:
Looks Good. CD/Aux/iPod/Satellite/HD Radio available all in one, SQ is good
    Cons:
Less than advertised 4 volt sub output. Steering wheel controls changed. Needs more crossover flexibility.

    Great headunit for the price

Installed in a 2006 Ford Mustang
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this head unit in my 2006 mustang. I took out the old shaker 500 (also known as the skipper 500) and stock speakers and what a difference this made.I do not care much about the bluetooth or the usb port but the improvement in sound is great. I replaced all four speakers with kenwood kfc-c6894ps speakers and i cant describe how good the car sounds now. Total installation time for the headunit was two and a half hours (crutchfield instructions are on point) and for the speakers another two hours. Original settings are not great since they deliver music without any depth and overemphasize the bass but by going into custom mode you can find the right balance. Great headunit, specially for the price
    Pros:
Great sound quality, specially for the price. It has a new look with a retro feel to it so it fits right in with the rest of my dash
    Cons:
Manual is rather useless but by playing around with it a little bit you can figure it out. Standard settings for sound are not really impressive but by going to custom and tweaking them the sound system comes to live.

Great choice in the double din category. It's definitely the classiest looking pick compared to what's out there. Only thing that could be improved would be more band selection in the EQ. Highly recommend this product!

    Great radio - With Buttons!

Written By johndwill, Portland, ME on Monday, February 04, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This replaces a Kenwood KDC-994 stereo I had for a couple years. The kenwood was nice enough, but it's user interface sucked. There are no radio-preset buttons so you had to do everything through the remote and watch the screen to make changes.

One of my requirements for a new stereo was physical buttons so I could change radio stations without studying the display. The Clarion fits this perfectly. On top of this, the front USB jack & aux in are a bonus and the bluetooth works much better with my iPhone than the kenwood did. The Kenwood would take about 45 seconds to sync with my phone when the radio turned on. The clarion syncs within 2-5. Sound quality is great. Bluetooth setup seemed ok to me.

Installation was pretty easy thanks to Crutchfield's instructions. I did not end up using the connector kit for my truck as the installers who put in the kenwood replaced the factory standard wiring with some other kit. But it was easy enough to use their wiring for the new radio.
    Pros:
Easy to use. Great sound. Wonderful bluetooth support. Customizable color display so I could set it to a color I can see with my sunglasses on and doesn't blind me at night.
    Cons:
I have 1 LED segment that sporadically does not light up as strong as the other segments. It's not a big deal but that's the only issue I had. No display of song title/artist from radio stations (something the Kenwood did have).

Bluetooth had me singing the Blues

Written By David G, LA on Thursday, January 17, 2013

All I really wanted when I purchased this car stereo was at least a simple AUX jack for streaming my Pandora, Spotify etc. I thought the Bluetooth was simply a bonus. It took me a little while to figure out that plugging the iPhone connector into the USB port only allowed me to take control of my iPod and not Pandora and that control was rather clumsy. I ended up just getting a 1/4" to 1/4" jack and streaming Pandora over AUX for over a year with decent sound quality, almost never tried any of the other sources. After I installed the stereo (Crutchfield has great instructions BTW), I couldn't figure out how to get the Bluetooth connected so I left it as is and stuck to the aux jack, even for phonecalls (much to my call recipient's chagrin). Eventually I took about 30 minutes and FINALLY got Bluetooth connected. Here's the issues I had: *Bluetooth is too easy to disconnect. Accidentally hold the wrong button down too long and you're disconnected - rather laborious to reconnect *Bluetooth CONSTANTLY cuts in and out while playing music. I could sometimes temporarily ameliorate this by changing source to iPhone, then changing it back to CX501 *Bluetooth quality is not good for phone calls (or music). Gain all the way up and caller on the other end said it sounded like I had the windows down *Menus are a pain to navigate through, especially being spoiled with GUI everywhere *CX501 won't stand up to abuse should you *ahem* get frustrated with the bad Bluetooth sound quality
    Pros:
    Hypnotic Blue colors
    Cons:
    Bluetooth
