Features

Application: This is a universal amplified antenna that can be used in applications where a conventional telescoping/power antenna is not desired. It is designed with separate amplifiers for the AM and FM bands, which improves the reception and gives you the maximum performance. You will have to supply the antenna with power using the 12V cable that is attached to the antenna cable. The antenna has self-adhesive pads on the bottom so you can mount it to any window in your vehicle. The antenna should be grounded to reduce any potential noise. A red LED confirms that the antenna is on. The package includes a plastic prying tool for removing the antenna when necessary.

Did not work

Written By Greg, Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, May 24, 2013
Installed in a 1998 Honda Accord
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I drive a 98 Honda Accord. The original antenna cable was damaged so I bought this antenna instead of pulling up carpeting, the rear seat, and the headliner to replace the cable. This antenna did not improve my reception one iota.
Pros:
Easy to install
Cons:
No directions with antenna. Reception did not improve.

Simple Setup/Decent Signal

Written By JoshS, Marietta, GA on Monday, April 08, 2013
Installed in a 1993 Infiniti J30
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty easy to install and straight forward to setup. Set this up on my 87 BMW 325i and installing on my 93 Infiniti J30 soon. Used same ground point as the sunroof motor ground and ran cable under headliner and through a-pillar. Wired the power for the antenna to the ignition wire that powers my aftermarket head unit as well. Signal seemed good in and out of parking decks etc. Mounted the antenna to the front glass right in front of the rear view mirror so it is somewhat hidden.
Pros:
Simple and Effective. Have seen other people say it does not work but I have not had an issue with. Have been using for 7 months now.
Cons:
Non. Crutchfield even includes instructions for the product which is vehicle specific and wiring is a no-brainer.

Unbelievable reception. If this antenna had not worked I was going to have to spend several hundred dollars to have Factory antenna replaced. I have a DashMat on my dash & this works great under it. Cannot see the antenna.
Pros:
100% great

This did not work in my situation. It is mostly because the cables are to short. Not enough leeway to mount it where you need to.
Pros:
None
Cons:
Didn't work, Ground cable to short.

Pretty Good, Mostly Excellent

Written By Vmiandy, Colorado on Friday, February 15, 2013
Installed in a 2002 Toyota Avalon
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Straight forward install. Better than factory antenna. I live 25 miles out of town in the mountains and am able to tune HD stations. However, antenna has definitive limits. When reception threshold limit is met, totally lose station. In and around town works great. An big improvement over factory window antenna. Some AM reception noises I'm still trying to work out. Only happens when signal strength starts to weaken. Factory antenna seemed to do better on AM.
Pros:
Easy install,
Cons:
Short cord length, poor printed directions

I have it mounted inside a Motorcycle fairing. Sound on stereo never fades and no static. Simple hook and does not have to show. Although it you did need to surface mount it is compact enough to not atract too much attention. Works Great!

Works beautifully, HD radio works perfectly.

Written By Selcuk, Brooklyn, NY on Thursday, June 07, 2012
Installed in a 1997 Ford Explorer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very easy to install, installed on a 1997 Ford Explorer, and it was a breeze. I have an aftermarket head-unit that supports HD radio as well. The stock antenna that came with the vehicle was stolen, brought this after reading reviews, and it works perfect! Picks up AM stations in HD, FM in HD, everything works perfectly fine. Just installed it behind the compass/temperature display and stuck it on the windshield. The 12v wire attached to the accessory line so when the radio turns on or you turn the key to the accessory setting, this will come on as well. No instructions come with the item, but it's easy for 2nd generation Ford Explorers 1995-2000 are the same so it should work. Run the wires from the antenna and push to hide them under the roof where the carpeting is, then down the the C pillar, pull one of the plastic covers from the passenger side right next to the door, underneath the glovebox, open the glovebox wide, underneath the glovebox shove the wires, grab the wires from the glovebox, and then transfer over to where the headunit is and then voila! install and done. My instructions are vague but hiding the wires are easy. For ground, I took out a screwdriver from one of the vanity mirrors on the passenger side, it is bare metal there, stuck the ground cable there (it should reach if you installed the antenna mentioned above) and then screw back the vanity mirror and thats it.
Pros:
AM and FM HD signals are strong in a big city with huge big buildings.
Cons:
None

Solved The Problem

Written By EricM, Germantown, MD on Saturday, September 17, 2011

This product works like a champ. I accidentally ripped the mast off of my my car in such a way that the the whole antenna needed to be replaced. The geniuses who designed the car made replacing the existing fender mount antenna involve removing a tire and part of the wheel well. When I saw this solution i was skeptical yet hopeful. I couldn't be happier with the result so far, it was easy to install and gets good reception

Note to the folks at Crutchfield, the plastic prying tool is for hiding the wires under the interior trim.

Ps you have to hook up the power wire or it won't work. It sounds like that is the problem the other reviewer was having.

Wow - it actually works!

Written By Art, Richmond, VA on Wednesday, August 24, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

OK, so I bought this for my boat stereo, which came with a very basic wire antenna which wasn't much use. I installed it today, and I just tucked the antenna up under the console headliner. Low and behold - it works great! At first, I just had the antenna hooked up, but the 12 volt power and ground wires were not connected, and I got virtually no reception. But as soon as I connected the power and a good ground, it picked up all of my local channels very well. If you hook it up correctly, I'm confident it will work well for you.

As good as a mast

Written By alex, Phoenix on Friday, May 15, 2009
Installed in a 2002 Chrysler 300M
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Looking at the others reviews of this antenna, they're all over the map. I can only assume that they didn't realize that this is an active antenna and must have +12 and ground hooked up.

Anyway, bought this to replace the rear window antenna who's reception got killed by metalized tint. Put it right above the windshield's rear view mirror, routed the wires through the pass. piller and attached power and ground. Getting reception as good as I would have w/ a external mast! Cheeze to install.

This product does exactly what it's meant to do.

Written By Christopher, Charleston, WV on Thursday, May 07, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ensure that the small black wire is connected to the power antenna lead on your head unit, and MAKE SURE to properly ground the little silver wire. You will NOT be satisfied with the tuning ability if this antenna is not properly grounded. Now, I wouldn't buy this as strictly an "upgrade" to a working external antenna, but in my case, my antique vehicle never had an external antenna, so I picked this up and mounted it behind the rear-view mirror. It works at least equally as well as the antennas on my newer BMW and Chevy Impala, and it's nearly invisible. So if you need or want an internally mounted antenna, go for this one. Just be sure to hook it up properly!

Cure for the window antenna blues.

Written By Bill, Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, August 03, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have the same make and model receiver in my car and my wife's car. The
receiver works great in my car, but it doesn't get good reception in my
wife's car. What's the difference? My car has an old fashioned mast
antenna. My wife's car has the newer tech window antenna. It may look
better, but it sure doesn't work very well. The universal window mount
antenna works better than the window antenna in my wife's car, but not
as good as the mast antenna of my car. This antenna is easy to install and
connect. It needs to be connected to a power supply and plugged into the
receiver. I attatched it to the side of the windshield so the wires that came
with the antenna were long enough to reach the receiver. It is attatched
to the side of the windshield and does not affect vision at all. Reception
has improved quite a bit, though the fm sensitivity of the receiver needs to
be better. If you need better reception a mast antenna is your best choice,
but if you have a window antenna and don't want to drill holes in your car,
the universal window mount antenna is a good choice.
