    Features

Overview: The Scosche FM-MOD02 is a stereo FM modulator with two transmission frequency options: 87.9 MHz and 88.3 MHz. It allows the addition of an auxiliary audio source (DVD player, VCP, MP3 player, etc) to almost any FM radio.

Installation: The modulator can be installed in a hidden-away location within cable length. It requires connection to a +12V Power source and chassis ground. The auxiliary source is connected to the RCA input jacks; a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack input is mounted in the on/off switch housing and has an RCA cable attached. The antenna interface connects to your vehicle's antenna plug and radio antenna input (antenna adapters are required for some vehicles).

Switch Housing: The modulator has an illuminated on/off switch with a 3.5mm mini-jack input in the same housing. Attached wiring connects to a Molex plug attached to the modulator and the RCA inputs on the side of the modulator. The switch can be positioned up to 21 inches from the modulator and it can be mounted with the attached two-sided adhesive strip.

    Good product for the price

Written By Billy M, Sumrall, Mississippi on Wednesday, January 02, 2013
Installed in a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It does what it is supposed to do. The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the switch is cheap plastic. Other than that, it works fine. Also tie straps that was supposed to be included were not in the box, but I used some I already had.
    Pros:
Very inexpensive. Easy to install. Does what it supposed to do.
    Cons:
    Switch is plasitc and cheap.

FM - MOD02 Worked well for me

Written By Anonymous, Edgewater, MD on Friday, October 19, 2012
Installed in a 1999 Dodge Durango
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product worked well for me, it was a good alternative to replacing my stock stereo in order to use my iPod. Installation was easy and the results were great for a reasonable investment. Setting the iPod volume at 3/4 and then using the stereo to control the volume minimized background noise.
    Pros:
    Easy of install / PRice
    Cons:
    None

    A Great Solution

Written By Tom, Northville, MI on Tuesday, September 18, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield's installation instructions are the very best. It took 90 minutes to take apart the dash, install the modulator and reassemble everything in a 2007 Pontiac G6. Crutchfield also included the 2 necessary antenna converter cables (GM connector to standard connector) at no extra cost.
    Pros:
Crutchfield's installation instructions are worth the price alone. Modulator is 100% better than a wireless FM modulator.
    Cons:
Some minor FM static bleed through which is easily covered up by iPod or XM program.

    Just buy a new radio

Written By Scott, Charlottesville, VA on Sunday, April 29, 2012

Had it installed at Crutchfield in Charlottesville, VA. Install blew out all my station presets and bass and treble settings. This device will reduce your FM reception by at 50%. This system does not compliment your stock stereo system, it overrides it. Caveat Emptor. I dislike this so much I will disconnect before my next road trip. As my title says: just buy a new radio.
    Pros:
Plays my iPhone exactly as advertised
    Cons:
Where to begin? Has intermittent hiss and loss of signal. Volume has to be adjusted to at least twice the level of radio/cd volume. The clock on my factory radio will not reset. It renders your FM reception little better than line-of-sight.

    works as advertised

Written By Joe, Leavenworth, KS. on Saturday, March 17, 2012
Installed in a 1995 Ford Ranger
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As a veteran auto repair tech I can honestly say anyone with basic automotive how to skills can install this themself. I soldedered & heat shrank connections to the "hot in run" and chassis gnd. wires to the audio unit, double sided foam taped the unit to the top of the radio, bundled the excess wire and mounted the jack/switch unit to the inside of the glovebox and was finished in under 60 mins. It works great, with the exception of some interference from RF hotspots I've had great performance from this product using my phone or mp3 player.
    Pros:
Absolutely painless install, minimal technical skill required and except for the input cable completely hidden form view.
    Cons:
Some hiss similar to cassete tape but is covered with volume and intermittent interference but it is after all a RF "reciever".

    works good

Written By tim, southwest va on Saturday, February 04, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed this in a 2008 toyota tacoma with single disc player. I had a wireless modulator previously that sounded pretty bad, this sounds much better. I just went on a small trip, 250 miles one way, and it worked great the whole way. The volume isnt quiet as loud as when in FM mode or CD mode, but I just turn it up a little with still plenty of volume left.
    Pros:
price, works better than wireless transmitters
    Cons:
I didnt want the switch and port on my dash, so I installed it in my center console. There is no where near enough cable to do this. Luckily I had RCA cable at home that I used and I had to buy RCA cable couplings. I also had to add cable to the power cables to reach frome the fuse box to the switch location. Because of the short cables the install was kind of a pain, but when finished all componets are hidden and I dont have the aftermarket switch box stuck to my dash.

    Not great

Written By Jabesv, Omaha, NE on Saturday, October 15, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this product per the manufacturer's and Crutchfield's instructions. There is a lot of background noise when using either my XM Radio or my MP3 player. Also with my XM radio I have to turn my volume up to the max level to hear the broadcast well. I never had any hissing with my wireless XM and I could use a normal volume level. Not the greatest solution.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was looking for a way to play my iPod through a factory installed stereo system that did not have an auxiliary jack. The Scosche FM modulator works great and is an inexpensive solution without having to replace the entire system. The installation instructions are sparse and not very specific, but I was able to do it easily with some help from the Crutchfield advisors over the phone and email. It looks a bit jury-rigged, but the sound quality is excellent.

Pros; Easy to follow instructions for getting to the back of my radio. Sound quality is excellent. Appearance is decent

Cons: Instructions for installing the product come from Scosche and aren't easy to follow. I had to purchase an antenna adpater. (This wouldn't be a big deal exept that I didn't know about it until my car was ripped apart)

    Scosche FM-MOD02

Written By JackM, Pittsburgh,PA on Monday, May 23, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation is stright forward. The difficulty depends on how easy it is to get to the back of the radio. At this time, I can't give a great rating. The device only has 2 frequencies and if they are used in your area or an area you pass through then that is a problem. I have static on both frequencies and I have not been able to eliminate it even after I talked to their technical service. I am still trying.

    GREAT ITEM

Written By RANDY T, NJ on Monday, May 23, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great item for the cost. After much research, I learned that there was no direct Ipod adapt to use for my 03 Ford Explorer stock radio. Other than changing the radio and loosing stering wheel controls and dvd entertainment function, this was my only option. Although skeptical I proceeded to purchase. The only tricky part was connecting the power and ground wires. Once you do that all else is simple. Total time for job was approximatly 30min. Works great and well hidden. Switch mounted fine and eluminates to same color as my dash making it look original. Sound quality pretty good. You do hear a bit of buzz on some songs or in some areas. However, again for the money and concidering other expensive options this was perfect. My thanks to Crutchfield too.

For the price, this is a great item. It is easy to install even though there are a lot of steps. The sound is fairly good, but it definitely doesn't get the full car stereo effect especially the volume.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I use this product in a company vehicle in which I cannot change out the radio.
It works ten times better with my satellite radio than the FM modulator. I can
now also listen to my IPOD. My only complaint is there is now some ignition hum.
Also, the little switch does not work so I have to unplug it when I want to
    listen to the regular radio.

    Poor sound quality

Written By Russ, Milwaukee, WI on Monday, April 04, 2011

The first unit I received had some much noise that it was not usable! Crutchfield replaced it at no charge and paid shipping for return and the new unit. The second one is better, but still has mediocre sound and lots of hiss. I have direct input for IPODs on 3 other vehicles, this does not come close to matching the sound quality and it has a lot of background noise, regardless of which frequency is selected. I think the whole adapter is made of cheap materials, I'm shopping for a replacement before this one quits. I would not recommend it.

    Consider options before buying...

Written By Anonymous, North Carolina on Saturday, April 02, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield is a class act and I don't blame them for anything I'm about to say. The product was as described, even the sales person mentioned this was not the best way to hook up an iPod, but considering I didn't want to replace my 2005 factory car stereo, this was my only option. Installation was easy enough, although it did require removing the existing stereo and tapping into an existing hot wire and ground, also beware there is an awkward iPod switch and plug that you'll have to stick somewhere on your console and the adhesive tape provided does not stick well (some day's anyway). The best thing I can say is that I can listen to my iPod now while on the road. Worst thing I can say is there is static - sometimes. Just like an FM radio station, sometimes the reception is clear, other days (and without external interference or change) there is an annoying amount of "fuzz". Ultimately, if budget would allow it I would replace my existing system with a unit that has direct input. This particular setup is a best "worst case" hookup and these faults should be taken into account before purchasing.

    1977 Corvette - VERY PLEASED

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this so I could listen to my ipod on my factory car stereo (I have an
original push button am/fm stock radio) and I did not want to ruin the originality
of my car. It was easy to install....I used squeeze connectors which do not ruin
the original factory wiring and connected the Red wire to the factory YELLOW
radio wire, the Black wire to the factory BLACK radio wire and the antenna wire
to the back of the radio's antenna slot. (NOTE: this is completely reversable to
factory condition if you ever want to take it out) I plugged in my Iphone, tuned
the FM radio and was pleased to hear chrystal clear music from my Iphone
over the factory radio!!!!! This is a great deal & soulution for all classic car
owners who want to keep everything factory original!!!!!

    It's pretty good...

Written By A.J., Plymouth Meeting, PA on Sunday, March 06, 2011
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this product a few days ago after having no success with direct auxiliary input
adapters for my headunit. The installation was easy - solder or wiretap the 12 volt power
and ground, and the rest is plug-and-play. It fit well behind my radio. The part that is
meant to be exposed has a green illuminated power switch and an input, and is meant
to be installed with double-sided tape. Personally, I think it looks tacky, so I installed a
separate jack in the center console and put the switch in the glove box.
Unfortunately, the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. I have no problems with
volume as others have said. However, there is background static. The quality of the
music itself is almost perfect, lows are clean, smooth and have good punch, and the
highs are relatively crisp. The static behind the music is only really noticeable at high
music volumes during quiet parts of the music, but for an audiophile like me, it's pretty
annoying. At normal listening volume, the quality is great. Unfortunately for me, normal
listening volume is very loud, and so I'm stuck with static. It's not intolerable, but it's
there. Simply for the stock look, it's a step up from a cassette adapter, but just barely.
Also, often I can't charge my phone while using this device without interference. Overall,
I'm happy with the product, but just barely.
