    Features

Overview: The USA Spec BT35-HON is a Bluetooth Phone & Music Interface for select Honda vehicles (with or without JBL factory systems). The BT35-HON lets you add Bluetooth hands-free communication and wireless music streaming to your compatible vehicle's factory radio. The USA Spec BT35-HON includes a hide-away module, external microphone, and wiring harness.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profiles A2DP and AVRCP for wireless audio streaming from a Bluetooth enabled device that can also be controlled from the buttons on your vehicle's factory radio or steering wheel. You can stream music stored on your Bluetooth enabled device or stream music apps (such as Pandora, SiriusXM Radio, iHeartRadio, etc.) that are playing on your Bluetooth device to your vehicle's sound system (all speakers will play). You can even skip tracks from your vehicle's factory radio steering wheel controls (other control functions will have to be done from your Bluetooth enabled device). You can control the volume of the music being streamed via your factory radio and steering wheel controls, or the Bluetooth device.

Note: Your Bluetooth enabled device must also support A2DP for audio streaming through your vehicle's sound system and AVRCP to control the Bluetooth device from your vehicle's radio or steering wheel controls.

Hands-Free Communication: The USA Spec BT35-HON supports Bluetooth Profile HFP for hands-free communication from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, so you can take (answer/end) phone calls through your vehicle's factory radio. Your music will be muted and an audible ringtone will be heard through your vehicle speakers when there is an incoming call. The BT35-HON will automatically switch to Bluetooth mode when there is an incoming call (even if your factory radio is turned off). The BT35-HON uses advanced technology to turn your radio on and switch to the correct source to help you never miss a call while driving again. You can even have the BT35-HON announce the caller's phone number through your sound system; and for most text-capable radios if you miss the announcement, you can view the caller's phone number on your factory radio's display (some text capable radios will only list 8 or 9 digits of the phone number).

Note: You will continue to use your mobile's phone touchscreen or keypad to make calls. The BT35-HON only allows you to answer/end calls from your factory radio or steering wheel controls. Once you make a call from your mobile phone, you can carry on the conversation hands-free through the included microphone and your vehicle's factory sound system.

External Microphone: The USA Spec BT35-HON includes an external microphone to carry on your side of the conversation (the caller's voice will be heard through your vehicle's speakers). The external microphone provides better performance in noisy environments than the integrated microphone found in many factory or aftermarket head units. The microphone is fitted with a 10' cable terminated by a 3.5mm connector that connects to the BT-35-TOY module. The microphone features an integrated, self-adhesive mounting bracket to mount the mic to your dash or windshield.

    Note: The microphone measures 0.625" (w) x 0.8125" (h) x 1.25" (d).

Bluetooth Compatibility: USA Spec is currently working out a list of fully compatible devices. The current list of successfully tested devices include the iPod touch (3rd/4th gen), iPhone (3G/3GS/4/4S/5), iPad (1/2/3), Android G2, Galaxy, HTC MyTouch, Desire, and Sony Ericsson W518a (as of 9/26/2012). You will initially need to pair your Bluetooth device with the BT35-HON, before operation. The BT35-HON can pair up to 8 devices, but will only connect to 1 device at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the USA Spec BT35-HON. Please refer to the USA Spec website for the latest compatibility listings.

Vehicle Compatibility: The USA Spec BT35-HON is compatible with select 98-2012 Honda vehicles with or without JBL factory systems (as of 7/13/2012).

Note: The BT35-HON is not compatible with vehicles equipped with factory Bluetooth. Please consult Crutchfield's Outfit My Car for your vehicle's specific compatibility.

Dip Switches: There are 4 dip switches that will need to be configured to match the make, model, and year of your compatible vehicle.

Installation: The USA Spec BT35-HON plugs into the back of your Honda factory radio. The factory harness gets unplugged from the factory radio and the included interface harness (CAS-TY35) plugs in between the factory radio and the factory harness. The interface harness also plugs into the USA Spec BT35-HON. Finally, connect the external microphone to the BT35-HON's mic input and mount the microphone to your dash or windshield.

    BT35-HON

Written By stickboybike, Lancaster, PA on Thursday, May 09, 2013

The BT35-HON is compatible with the Honda Pilot which I installed in my wife's vehicle. I have the wired version (non-bluetooth PA15-HON2) in my Element SC which works flawlessly and the sound reproduction on the highs and lows is terrific.

The bluetooth unit above, not so good. Installation is easy on the BT35-HON, bluetooth phone calls are average with your voice sounding hollow on the call receiver's end. Streaming music using the iPhone 4S is definitely poor. The Pilot is an EX with a factory subwoofer, no nav and during bluetooth streaming of music, most of the volume level is directed out all the speakers with the exception of the front and rear door speaker, at a very low volume level. The subwoofer is non functional. You can turn up the sub to +6 and it sounds no different as when it's all the way down.

My wife who is the furthest from being an audiophile, remarked how poor the sound reproduction is when streaming music via bluetooth. (Using the car's AUX in via 1/8" cable sounds perfect.) I called the folks over at USA Spec and explained my situation with the BT35-HON and they said it should work fine, to check wiring in the dash and the volume level on the iPhone; which did not change the bass response when adjusted.

I'd be curious to hear of other devices have this issue when paired with the BT35. Sadly I do not recommend product at all.
    Pros:
Easy to install, pair the device, make and receive calls
    Cons:
Poor sound quality using hands free, no bass response from factory sub when streaming music via bluetooth regardless of turning up the device's volume and switching the iPhone EQ to Bass Boost.

Just like it was a manufacturer installed part

Written By Colleen O, Pensacola, FL on Sunday, April 28, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just purchased a 2011 Honda CRV, and it had all the bells & whistles you could want except one thing. Bluetooth. After having Bluetooth in all my previous 5 cars, it's a very hard whistle to be without. Crutchfield had the USA SPEC Honda Bluetooth Interface (BT35-HON), which was the only thing out there (online & at dealerships) that I could find. After purchasing I brought it to my mechanic who quickly installed, and now my CRV has all those Bells & Whistles that you'd expect would come from the manufacturer...and best of all, it works PERFECT!
    Pros:
Bluetooth capability for streaming music, phone...
    Cons:
    None

Works perfect on 2007 honda accord w/ nav

Written By Amburgs, Findlay, OH on Wednesday, April 10, 2013

I thought long and hard, but I finally bought this unit. Had it installed. Works great. Sound over stereo is fine. If your on the fence, look no more. I have a 2007 honda accord 4cyl with navigation. A new screen pops up on the audit controls called CD-C. Use seek up to answer and seek down to hang up or reject. Use it all the time and everyone I talk to on the phone says they hear me fine. If you install yourself, I had it installed on the drivers side window next the sun visor. Said it cuts down on wind noise. Exact opposite of what I thought.
    Pros:
    Works just as advertised
    Cons:
    None.

    Extremely Disappointed 07 Civic Si

Written By redline144, Wheeling, WV on Sunday, April 07, 2013

I bought this unit anticipating the crystal clear bluetooth audio streaming that my mother's Corolla and friend's factory systems have. I was gravely mistaken. The audio streaming on this unit is not what I had expected. I hardly have any of the bass response I have with the 1/8" aux input. Also, it sounds like there is a lot of echo/reverb on all of the vocals. I understand it is pretty common practice while producing music, but this is just overkill. You can especially tell this when switching from the 1/8" aux input back to bluetooth. It's kind of hard to explain without actually hearing it. When a call comes through it automatically switches to CDC mode and won't switch back, not a huge pain but irritating. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because the quality of calls seems to be pretty good. I hid the mic in the sunroof control area with the factory holes. I don't think I would buy this product again. However, if you're just looking for a basic handsfree talking option this is a good product. However, if you're looking for quality audio, this is not the unit.
    Pros:
    Pretty good quality voice.
    Cons:
Streaming audio subpar. Doesn't switch back from CDC mode.

Easy to install, works as advertised.
    Pros:
USASpec YouTube videos for installation made everything involved for installation clear and easy.
    Cons:
Had to seek out YouTube videos. SHould have been mentioned in the manual or more clearly on the website. Volume for calls is a little lower than other sources, but not a big deal.

Installed in a 2007 Honda Civic SI
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got this system because I wanted to maintain the factory stereo and wanted an option that would be mostly hidden. I did the installation by myself. Obviously, the hardest part was taking the factory radio out, after that it was as easy as pushing a couple of connector in. The device worked as intended and had very good sound for both music and when on the phone people on the other side was able to hear me with no problems. Things I didn't like were that the radio would always start in Aux even when I had left it in FM, and that it didn't display any text for music or callers, even though the radio has the capability for displaying text (fair since they clearly state in the specs that the system does not support text) Now, I would've been happy if those were my only comments, unfortunately the equipment failed after just two days. While in a middle of a call it disconnected from my iPhone and it never paired again with it. I even try with different phones to discard it was my phone but was never able to pair and it didn't even showed as an available device. I called Crutchfield support and they gave me a few ideas that I followed. First, disconnected the car battery for at least 10 seconds, nothing happened. Then, pull the radio out and checked all the connections were ok. I pulled the radio out disconnected the cables, waited a minute or so, then reconnected again, but nothing happened. Fortunately, Crutchfield support and service is superv and they quickly issued a RMA.
    Pros:
    Good sound... when it worked.
    Cons:
Reliability - only lasted 2 days!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The videos were easy to follow and the center compartment came out with no problem. I ended up taking the mic up through the gear shifter panel and attaching it right below the E brake instead of up thru the A-pillar. Still sounds great when on the phone. Music sounds great and finally can listen to my Spotify!!!
    Pros:
Easy to install without any special tools.
    Cons:
Don't forget to plug cig lighter or seat Warmers back in before you put everything back together unless you like doing things twice.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy install in a 2011 Honda Pilot EX with RES(there are 2 screws that are not shown in the radio removal instructions, though). I think it took about a half hour. Mic is mounted on the windshield next to the rearview mirror. Calls sound good and music sounds great! I'm not a total audiophile, but I have been a musician for a loooong time so stuff's gotta sound decent for me. I do get an echo with podcasts, and haven't been able to figure out a cause or solution yet...Super stoked that I didn't spend the extra for the touring model just for bluetooth!! I didn't need the trim tools, just found a corner and wedged my fingers in and pulled.
    Pros:
Plays nicely with RES, and bluetooth music sounds good!
    Cons:
echo with podcasts when streamed with bluetooth

Installed in a 2008 Honda Accord
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This product does everything it advertises. A welcome addition to my Honda without major expense. Installation was relatively easy (3.5 difficulty on 1-5 scale). Toughest part is running the microphone up the A-pillar. (Note to Crutchfield: make sure in your MasterSheets to note that the center console clips are considered; the middle of the trim piece near the gear shift lever is weak and will easily break if not careful.)
    Pros:
As-advertised, performs flawlessly. Excellent sound quality; streaming of music on phone is a nice benefit. Great value for the cost.
    Cons:
Installation is not recommended for people not used to removing trim pieces in their cars. There is not an easy mounting option for the control box within the center console (under all of the trim) and some creativity is needed (I used double-sided adhesive tape and zip-ties to hold the control box in place).

Nice alternative to replacing your head unit

Written By JerryH, Rockford, IL on Monday, January 21, 2013
Installed in a 2008 Honda Accord
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This unit makes it easy to add bluetooth to your factory head unit. The installation is pretty simple. I also bought USA Spec's ipod interface. It was a little trickier to add both. I wish the directions would have mentioned this possibility.
    Pros:
Easy installation (when installed alone). Easy pairing with iphone. Streams music better than I would have expected (if you listen to compressed music files anyway you may not know the difference).
    Cons:
Doesn't stream audio text. Must use your phone to make a call (which is probably not much harder than looking through menus on a aftermarket head unit to make a call).

Installed in a 2009 Honda CRV EX
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Had this unit professionally installed in my 2009 CRV. My main purpose was to use the hands free bluetooth phone option. This works very well. Streaming audio from my Iphone works very well as well. I consider this a low cost and nicely engineered unit that handles the basics very well. I was looking for that and am well pleased with this unit.
    Pros:
Integrates well with the OEM stereo system. Steering wheel controls work flawlessly making operations very easy.
    Cons:
Only thing is the volume needs to be adjusted upwards for phone calls. But, certainly not a real issue.

    Works well in '07 Odyssey

Written By Odyssey07, Richmond, Virginia on Monday, January 07, 2013
Installed in a 2007 Honda Odyssey
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in an '07 Odyssey with DVD but no navigation or XM. The BT-35 HON works as advertised. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 3 synch consistently and we have experienced no undesired disconnect issues. Note that while the voice will state the incoming number, the factory radio display does not support the text function. The music streaming sound quality is excellent (you would think that it is a hard-wire connection). The bluetooth phone quality is good but not outstanding. The installation was fairly easy, but I do recommend purchasing the plastic trim tools to ease of removing the plastic dash panels and also to avoid damage (Bojo ATH-CR3-NGL). I was able to mount the microphone on the dash panel just behind the gear selector which eliminated the need to run the wire through the dash, A-Pillar, and headliner. Expimented with the quality of clarity prior to permanantely mounting the mic. I would recommend this product to another Honda user.
    Pros:
Nice upgrade to a Honda which was not equipped with bluetooth from the factory. Works well with steering wheel controls, music streaming is excellent. About as good as it gets with an aftermarket unit.
    Cons:
Cructhfield instructions only cover the radio removal and do not show how to run the mic wire across the dash, up the a-pillar, and headliner. Called tech support and they could not help with this either. I suggest the mounting of the mic on the dash near the gear shift selector.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought this for my wife's '07 Odysee and it worked flawlessly the first time. Answer and hang up with steering wheel buttons! Music stream via Bluetooth is very clear. Didn't time the install but it was really easy. It took a while to get the panels off because I wasn't sure where the clips were and didn't want to break anything. It interfaces via the XM connection on the main unit so unplug that one only and save yourself a ton of time. Also the control portion on the bottom didn't need to come out; another time saver.
    Pros:
Easy install. Connected instantly to iPhone 4, 4S, and 5! Very long cord on main box to hide but still access and on microphone too. Was able to mount on windshield and still run across headliner, down A-pillar door gasket and under dash. Voice tells you when connected, disconnected and reads incoming phone number.
    Cons:
    None so far.

    Great product for the Odyssey

Written By Ron V, San Jose, CA on Sunday, November 25, 2012
Installed in a 2005 Honda Odyssey
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Honda Odyssey 2005 and after asking what I was looking for, Keith recommended this product. I was hesitant about it since I have never installed a product like this before. Keith was great about my concerns and suggested I also buy a kit to help with removing the panels. The kit and the detailed Crutchfield installation directions were critical in the installation going smoothly. It took me about 90 minutes since I was being very careful with removing the panels since I didn't want to mess them up.

The product works great for the things we use most: receiving calls and listening to music through our iPhone. Receiving calls is especially great since the phone can be in my pocket and I can still answer it just by hitting the "channel up" button on the steering wheel. Some reviewers have complained about the sound quality, but for me it was fine. I have tried FM transmitters in the past and compared to them, this product's audio quality was vastly superior.

We are very happy with the recommendation and the product performance so far. We have been using it for about 2 weeks.
    Pros:
    * Price * Quality * Integration with existing controls * Installation instructions were great

    Returned

Written By UVAMACK, Maryland on Tuesday, November 06, 2012

I have used this product for a few weeks with some issues. Crutchfield sent out a replacement immediately, but I have decided not to install the replacement. Bluetooth streaming works rather well except for when it cuts out. At first, USA-SPEC thought it may be the cellular signal dropping out, it doesn't seem to be the case. On average, during my 1 hour commute it will drop 3x and I will have to push the mode button on my car to get back to the CD-C mode in my Honda. Understand, it stays on CD-C, but I have to shuffle back through so it will pick up my Bluetooth stream again.

As far as the call quality for people on the other end, everyone says it sounds like I am in a tunnel except USA-SPEC. USA-SPEC's customer service is great, I just don't feel the product fits my needs. I am ordering a similar product but this product has the Apple Chip which should alleviate some of my issues AND it will display the songs on the screen.
    Pros:
    Easy to install
    Cons:
Subpar Bluetooth Doesn't display the song/artist on the screen If you are on XM radio and receive a call, it switches to CD-C mode, then when the call ends it stays in that mode. You have to toggle back to XM radio mode. HUGE PAIN. Hopefully their next product will be ready for Prime Time
