The dash opening this kit is made for is a different shape and size than typical aftermarket car stereo receivers. The mounting bracket covers the "gaps" and secures your new receiver in the dash. It also includes a dash pocket, which rests below the new receiver.

The kit includes

  • side brackets, used if your factory mounting location is designed for the side support system found in some vehicles (ISO-DIN)

Wasn't that impressed with the ability to mount the after market stereo into this assembly. It gives you 2 options, a DIN mount or ISO. I tried both and ISO was sloppy and wouldn't hold head unit stable. DIN mount was a little better but pretty sure you could pull the head unit out by hand if you tried hard enough. Would have like to seen the ability to stabilize the head unit with some side screws. There are some large gaps around faceplace and there are 4 holes for some reason in the back of the storage pocket under the head unit.
Pros:
snug fit into dash overall.
Cons:
No instructions on how or what to remove to install stereo, but plenty of instructions on how to install speakers, even though I didn't order speakers. 4 holes in the back of the storage pocket under the head unit.

The Crutchfield team was so amazing. This product, however, was cheap looking and was not the same a the one that came factory in my 2002. Mine has a very handy little flip down door that conceals the storage space. Not to mention, I can rest my phone there when I'm using Google maps or something. Also, not everything shown in the photo was in the package that arrived.

I ended up not needing it anyway because the install was easy enough.

The Posi connectors, dash kit and wiring harness along with the installation
guide made installling my Pioneer head unit "a snap". With a little pre-work ie:
connecting the wiring harness'. I had the whole job fininshed in about 40
minutes.

Worked fine on installing a new head unit in my daughter's 2006 RSX Type S.
Feels a little plasticky compared to the factory insert but did the job. I
installed a Kenwood receiver which fit fine and worked well. The hardest part
was not knowing how hard I had to pull on the factory faceplate to get it out of
the panel - took more force than anticipated. I didn't want to break anything.
Once I got the factory panel out everything else went easily.

Be Cautious

If using this face plate with a removable radio be cautious. I installed a blaupaubt
radio but was unable to smoothly fold the face plate down to use the CD functions
nor would it allow the removal of the face plate. I had the customly force the radio
forward to allow the functionality. To the company that produced as item please
include a back plate to allow radios with removable face plates to work correctly.

Weak quality control

The dash kit was provided as part of the purchase price for an in-dash head unit. As it turned out, I was able to re-use the OEM dash unit, which suited me fine as the OEM part had some advantages over the replacement unit.

The replacement dash kit was apparently missing a screw (1 of 5) holding the two halves together, resulting in a conspicuous gap in a very noticeable location. Crutchfield was more than willing to replace the dash kit, but since I didn't need it anyway, there was no point.
