Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Accessories Our take on the Pioneer TS-A1683R by Ken Nail Why replace your car's original speakers? The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience. Pioneer understands what it takes to get great sound in your car. First, you need solid lows that project effectively the TS-A1683R 6-1/2" speakers feature an injection-molded polypropylene woofer reinforced with basalt, graphite, and Aramid fibers so it keeps its shape when you're driving it hard. The rubber surround keeps the cone moving smoothly when the volume is cranked so the bass stays strong and tight. Next you've got to have vocals and instrumentals that really sparkle, so these Pioneers team up a dome midrange speaker with a silver film dome tweeter and supertweeter. Features Woofers: Each speaker features an IMPP (Injection Molded Polypropylene) cone woofer interlaced with carbon graphite, basalt, and long aramid fibers. This IMPP cone design provides the strength and rigidity that powerful bass requires. The high-density, compressed internal architecture is resilient and transfers sound very quickly. The result is full-bodied, rich sound. Surrounds: For durability and a smooth response, each woofer uses a rubber surround. Magnet/Voice Coils: Each woofer features an 11-ounce strontium magnet with heat-resistant polyester-imide resin coated voice coil wires. This allows the voice coil to handle more heat, improving input power handling as well as reliability. Midranges: Each speaker has a 3/4" lightweight diaphragm dome midrange for fast, accurate response with low distortion. The midrange has a 0.2 ounce neodymium magnet and magnetic cooling fluid. Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 7/16" dome tweeter and 3/8" dome super tweeter made from PET silver film for crisp, clear highs. Mounting: The speakers can be mounted in standard 6-1/2" openings, 4-hole 6-1/2" openings, or 6-3/4" openings. Bass will not blow you away, but there is enough that you won't miss the factory paper cones. Install instructions were a breeze, however I was a little hesitant with drilling into my vehicle. The front door uses a plastic speaker housing for the factory speaker, and I made them work for the Pioneers. No rattling, no buzzing - just a hint if you too are weary about running a bit through your cars sheet metal. In the rear, the holes matched well enough also to avoid drilling. I am currently only powering them with the stock head unit, but plan to add a Pioneer AVH-4200 head unit, and a Sound Ordnance under the seat sub to round it out. Was this review helpful? I got some self-drilling screws to complete the install rather than trying to match the drill bit with a screw size. Those are not included. Tip: hold the speaker adapters exactly where the factory ones were and mark the center of the 3 screw holes with a nail. Then drill the screw into the nail mark without the speaker adapter first to create the thread. This way if you slip you don't go through the speaker. Then back out the screw, align the speaker adapter, and screw it in -careful not to go too far and strip the threads! After slowly, carefully swapping out the first door to make sure I was doing a perfect job (lease car), the other 3 doors took less than 10 minutes each. I used a butterknife with electric tape around the end (to protect from door scratches) on the first door panel but used my fingers on the other 3 doors. There is a spot on the inside of the door where you don't really need a tool. These took about 3 days to "burn in" and the mids/highs sound very nice. In fact, they sound nice enough that you won't notice they are as loud as they are -a common thing with good sounding speakers. Was this review helpful? Toughest part was the door panel removal on my '06 Chevy Trailblazer. The speaker install was easy especially with the free wiring harness. If you do this on a vehicle that requires you to remove the door panel pick up the correct tool. It will prevent you from damaging the door or panel retainer clips and also makes thje job easier. The tool is inexpensive and can be found at any auto parts store. The speakers are connected to a stock radio and work great. 4 out of 5 Good Bang for the Buck Written By Jeffbh1, Winter Springs Fl on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. The installation was pretty easy. Thanks Crutchfield "I'll Be Back" when I see the speakers I want for my other vehicle on sale. Was this review helpful? Yes | No
