The KCA-S220A 2-changer switch lets you add two pieces of Kenwood gear to a compatible Kenwood in-dash stereo, including a CD changer, iPod® adapter, SIRIUS or XM satellite radio, or HD Radio™ tuner. You'll also find an auxiliary input for a portable music player or other audio gear.

With most Kenwood car stereos, this adapter allows you to choose between two Kenwood components and an auxiliary source — three outboard sources instead of being limited to one. With older (pre-1999) Kenwood stereos, you'll be able to connect and choose between two sources — refer to the "Crutchfield Hands-on Research" tab above for more information. The KCA-S220A connects to the changer port on the back of your Kenwood stereo. Warranty: 1 year.

Overview: The Kenwood KCA-S220A is a switching unit which allows you to operate and switch between two compatible Kenwood add-on source devices such as a CD-changer, HD Radio Tuner, Satellite Radio Interface, Bluetooth Interface, or iPod Adapter with a compatible Kenwood headunit. The switching unit also has an auxiliary input with stereo RCA jacks for adding an external audio source, such as a portable MP3 player. A 6-1/2' cable is supplied for connecting the switching unit to your Kenwood head unit.

Compatibility: The KCA-S220A is compatible with Kenwood headunits with a 5L connection, Kenwood CD-changers (1999-up), Kenwood HD Radio Tuners, Kenwood Satellite Radio Interfaces, Kenwood iPod Adapters (iP500), and Kenwood Bluetooth Interfaces.

Note: Not compatible with Kenwood headunits which feature a KAB port.

Auxiliary Input: The KCA-S220A is equipped with a stereo RCA auxiliary input for connecting an external audio device, such as a portable MP3 or mini-disc unit. The auxiliary terminals are active only when the Aux Switch is set to "On". When the switching unit is connected to a control unit from Group A, you can switch between Changer 1 and the Auxiliary source terminals if the Aux Switch is "On" and between Changer 1 and Changer 2 if the Aux Switch is "Off". If the switching unit is connected to a control unit from Group B, you can switch between Changer 1, Changer 2, and Aux when the Aux Switch is "On".

Installation Notes: The switching unit can be mounted with the supplied self-tapping screws or with the supplied self-adhesive Velcro strips. Typical locations for the unit include the trunk area of your vehicle, or under a seat in the passenger area.

Inputs and Outputs

Front:

  • To Head Unit: connects to your car receiver using the provided connection cable
  • Input 1: connects to a compatible Kenwood source
  • Input 2: connects to compatible Kenwood source
Back:
  • Aux Switch (On/Off): turns the auxiliary input On or Off
  • Aux Input: RCA left and right inputs

Great addition to Kenwood Head unit

Great little accessory to your head unit. I have the Ez500 head unit and I used this to connect my satellite radio and my ip500 iPod interface. Why use those cheap and ugly iPod adapters that you have to stick someplace in your car. Take the time and do it right with Kenwood products. Installation took some time but it is nice not having wires and stuff all over the inside of your car. Also there is no sound degradation as in other iPod devices that use an FM modulator. This device allowed me to keep everything clean and get the most out of my Kenwood products as well as my iPod.

I have this hooked up to a Kenwood KTS-MP400MR receiver with a Sirius receiver and the KCA-iP500 ipod controller. Works exactly as expected to allow both to be connected at the same time.

Had bluetooth hands free and XM satellite radio. Only one could plug into the back of the head unit. Used the switch and now both work flawlessly. No setup or anything, pretty much plug and play.

Works great with KCA-iP500 ipod interface

The KCA-S220A was great for adding 2 sources to my KDC-x889 receiver. I have a CD Changer installed and my receiver's aux input is being used for the factory radio. I was looking for a way to add control for an ipod and also provide a line level connection for my Sirius car dock. The KCA line level inputs took care of the Sirius satellite radio connection and sounds much better than going through the radio. I also purchased the Kenwood KCA-iP500 control interface to connect the ipod. Everything works great! The new sources are accessed through the SRC button just as the other sources. The receiver not only controls the ipod, it also displays the song titles.

Used this unit in a '93 Camaro and '01 Jetta with an Excelon 955 Cass/Receiver with Dolby B/C, I brought from you for my '85 Firebird. I added the Kenwood 301 CD Player for the double-din effect. No one made one with Dolby C. With the 710 10 disc changer in the trunk,long distance travel was a piece of heaven with the smooth transition of one unit to the next. The 220A made it effortless and quiet. I forgot to remove the system when I sold the Jetta. But trust me the next car will get the same setup, but with a KRC-953 Headunit.

Works Great for XM/CD Changer!

This switch saved me! I just bought a new Kenwood deck which is Satellite ready, along with a separate XM tuner cube and adaptor, and then discovered that the XM tuner cube plugged into the same place on the deck that my CD changer did! My choices were to get a removable XM tuner and not have the deck display the XM data, or run it through the deck have XM only, or the CD changer only since I can't pull the deck every time I want to plug in one or the other.

Then we found this Kenwood KCA-S220A switch, and my problems were over. We weren't sure whether this would work for two different types of devices since the instructions were for having 2 CD changers. But we plugged them both in and they work perfectly. Now I can have my XM AND my CD Changer both going through my deck without the need for a separate XM removable box like the Sky-fi.

I'm so happy we found this solution - my deck reads everything and I can switch from one to another without any problems.
