Crutchfield Electronics Recycling Service
The only year-round program of its kind in the region meets a growing need
Discarded electronic components are creating a serious problem in area landfills because of potentially harmful chemicals they contain. In an effort to help protect the environment and keep Virginia green today and for future generations, Crutchfield has opened the first permanent year-round electronics recycling center in the region.
Now it's easy for Charlottesville-area residents to properly dispose of outdated electronic equipment. Our "one-stop" electronics recycling center, located at our Charlottesville store is the first and only permanent, year-round program of its kind in the region. Harrisonburg-area residents can drop off items at our Cloverleaf Shopping Center location.
How the service works
Eligible items may be dropped off during regular business hours — no appointment necessary. Nominal fees are charged to cover the cost of handling, storage, and transportation of the recycled items. (See a list of accepted items and their associated fees.)
Fees can be paid and small items can be dropped off at the Rio Hill store's customer service desk. Store personnel will help unload large items. Store hours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday Noon to 5 p.m.
Customers buying a new item to replace an old one can bring in the old one and have it recycled for free. If the new product requires delivery, the delivery team will remove the old one for free.
Components do not have to be drained, discharged, or otherwise prepared for disposal.
