Why replace your factory radio?

Two good reasons - sound quality and cool features. A new car stereo offers power that's superior to most factory radios, along with more sophisticated tone controls. And most car stereos offer built-in or optional features that add safety and fun to life in your car, including inputs for your iPod or MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free cell phone calls, satellite radio or HD Radio reception, and connections for building an audio system in your car.

Our take on the Alpine CDA-117

by Zak Billmeier

Outstanding tone from any source

Alpine built the CDA-117 CD receiver for anyone who loves great sound. You can shape the sound with a 5-band equalizer and a high-pass filter that'll keep your full-range speakers running clean by eliminating the low bass that they can't handle. Plus, Media Xpander helps tweak your sound to better cut through road noise. No matter what source you choose, the premium digital-to-analog converter makes sure all your tunes sound their best.

Play all your digital music

Control your iPod® or iPhone® with the included cable. You'll keep your player charged as you drive, while you navigate your albums and playlists easily. The large rotary controller acts like an iPod's click wheel for fast scrolling through your music library, and Alpine's Percentage Search lets you use the receiver's six tuner preset buttons to jump around even more quickly.

CDA-117 rear

The CDA-117 features a rear-mounted USB input, so you can also play the MP3, WMA, and AAC files you've loaded on a thumb drive. Plus, you can play all your CDs and recordable discs, so you'll have plenty of music for long trips or your daily commute. You'll see all song and artist info clearly on the easy-to-read BioLite™ display.

Tune your system to perfection

Tuning kit

Add Alpine's IMPRINT processor to turn your vehicle into the perfect listening space.

The CDA-117 offers three sets of high-powered preamp outputs that send a cleaner signal to your outboard amps. If you want to get top performance from your setup, add Alpine's PXA-H100 IMPRINT sound processor and the KTX-H100 tuning kit to turn your vehicle into the perfect listening space. The IMPRINT measures your car's acoustics and uses its extensive equalization and time delay adjustments to create a perfect audio environment.

Note: If you're going to use your iPod with this receiver, be sure to check "Hands-on Research" for specific iPod model compatibility with this receiver or its optional iPod adapter.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?
In most vehicles, you can use this adapter to connect your vehicle's steering wheel controls to this Alpine stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and the Alpine, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls.

      Disc Playback

MP3/WMA/AAC Playback: This unit can play CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs containing MP3, WMA, and AAC files recorded using the ISO 9660 Level 1 or Level 2 formats. MP3 files with bit rates from 8 kbps to 320 kbps, WMA files with bit rates from 48 kbps to 192 kbps, and AAC files with bit rates from 16 kbps to 320 kbps are supported. Variable bit rates are also compatible. Up to a maximum of 255 folders and 510 files per folder can be read from one disc. ID3 tags v1 and v2, and WMA tags are supported; track title, artist name, and album name ID3 tag data can be displayed.

Text/File/Folder Quick Search: When you are playing a disc with CD Text, ID3, WMA or AAC tags, you can easily search for a track or file by its title. Once you have activated the search mode, you can use the rotary encoder to quickly scan through the titles to locate the desired track, and select it by pressing the play button.

Playback Modes: The Alpine CDA-117 offers Repeat and Random playback modes.

      • Repeat: Repeat Play (repeats playback of current track/file), Folder Repeat (repeats only files in current folder)
      • Random: Random Play (all tracks/files on disc are played in random order), Folder Random (only files in current folder are played back in random order)

Angle Mounting: For proper CD playback, Alpine recommends mounting the CDA-117 no more that 35° above horizontal.

      Aux/USB/iPod Connection

USB Port: The Alpine CDA-117 features a rear-panel USB type-A port so you may connect a USB memory device to this head unit. Your connected USB memory device may contain MP3 (8-320 kbps), WMA (48-192 kbps), or AAC (16-320 kbps) music files formatted in FAT 12/16/32. This unit will recognize up to 20 folders and 1,000 files per folder (20,000 total files). When you plug in your USB memory device the CDA-117 will automatically identify music files while ignoring other types of files. You can locate songs quickly and easily with the convenient file and folder search function, QuickSearch. You can also search your music file by category (Playlist/Artist/Album/Genre/Composer/Folder) and/or alphabetically. The unit's USB port will also charge your connected USB device.

Built-In iPod Control: You can connect your iPod or iPhone to the head unit's rear-panel USB port and included USB extension using the supplied iPod dock/USB connector cable and get access to all of your iPod's stored music, right from the head unit (you can also use the cable that came with your iPod, however, it's not automotive-grade like the one supplied). With USB connection, your iPod's large music libraries are loaded instantly through the head unit. Sound quality is maximized by using USB along with the head unit's D/A converter, allowing for Signal to Noise ratio up to105dB. Once your iPod is connected, you get convenient control so you can scroll through all your Categories: Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs, Genre, Composers, Podcasts; and view all your song information right from the display on the head unit. For especially big music libraries, Percentage Search function uses the preset buttons for quick jumps to specific parts of a selected category list (Preset 1: 0% to 16%, Preset 2: 17% to 32%, Preset 3: 33% to 49%, Preset 4: 50% to 66%, Preset 5: 67% to 82%, Preset 6: 83% to 100% of the song library). You can also search music categories alphabetically. In addition, the CDA-117 provides Repeat and Random playback modes for your iPod/iPhone music. The Alpine CDA-117 is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible when connected via the included USB/iPod dock cable and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (November 2011):

      Audio Section

24-Bit Burr Brown D/A Converter: The CDA-117 uses a 24-bit Burr Brown D/A converter for superb sound quality and playback of your music.

CEA-2006 Compliant: The specifications given by Alpine for the built-in amplifier comply with the CEA-2006 mobile amplifier power testing and measurement standards from the CEA (Consumer Electronics Association). All manufacturers who comply with the standard can display the CEA-2006 logo on their product.

      • CEA-2006 Power Rating: 18 watts x 4-channel (at 4 ohms, 20-20kHz, 1% THD)
      • Max Power Output: 50 watts x 4-channel (200 total watts)

Power Pack Ready: You can also add-on Alpine's KTP-445 Power Pack (500KTP445, sold separately) to instantly increase the head unit's power to a true 45-watts x 4-channel (RMS). The Alpine KTP-445 Power Pack connects between the Alpine head unit and unit's wiring harness.

4V/6CH Pre-out: The CDA-117 has 3-sets (Front/Rear/Sub) of 4-Volt RCA pre-outs for connection of external amplifiers. The unit's front and rear preamp output can be faded (front/rear), while the subwoofer preamp output is non-fading. The dedicated subwoofer output offers independent level control (0-15) and adjustable phase (Norm/Rev). You can select either System1 or System2 for the desired subwoofer effect.

      • Subwoofer System 1: Subwoofer level changes according to the main volume setting.
      • Subwoofer System 2: Subwoofer level change is different from the main volume setting; even at low volume settings, the subwoofer is still audible.

Power IC Off: When an external amplifier is powering all the speakers in the system, you can turn the internal amp off, which will improve the sound quality.

High Pass Filter (HPF): The speaker level and front line level outputs have a selectable high-pass filer (HPF); off (default), 60Hz, 80Hz, or 100Hz.

MX (Media Xpander): The MX (Media Expander) makes vocals or instruments sound distinct regardless of the music source. The FM radio, CD, USB memory, and iPhone/iPod will be able to reproduce the music more clearly even in vehicles with a lot of road noise.

5-Band EQ/7-Band EQ: The Alpine head unit allows you to adjust its built-in Parametric EQ or Graphic EQ.

      • 5- Band Parametric EQ: The built-in Parametric EQ allows you to adjust the following 5 frequency bands in 1/3 octave steps from -6 to +6 dB at a bandwidth Q factor of 1, 2,3, or 4.

        • Band 2: 160 Hz to 1 kHz
        • Band 3: 630 Hz to 4 kHz
        • Band 4: 1.6 kHz to 10kHz
        • Band 5: 10 kHz to 17.5 kHz
      • 7-Band Graphic EQ: The built-in Graphic EQ allows you to adjust the following 7 frequencies from -6 to +6 dB.
        • Frequency 1: 80 Hz
        • Frequency 2: 250 Hz
        • Frequency 3: 500 Hz
        • Frequency 4: 1 kHz
        • Frequency 5: 4 kHz
        • Frequency 6: 8 kHz
        • Frequency 7: 16 kHz

Time Correction: This unit is able to delay the audio signal to the speakers closest to the listener with its built-in Time Correction feature. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. Time Correction allows the listener to be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimum staging. You can adjust the distance of each speaker and subwoofer (6-channel) to the listener from 0 to 132.7 inches.

Soundfield Presets: You can store up to 6 Parametric/Graphic EQ and T. Correction settings into the head unit's preset memory, so your custom audio settings can be recalled quickly.

IMPRINT Sound Upgradeable: The CDA-117 is IMPRINT ready. Simply add the Alpine IMPRINT PXA-H100 audio processor (500PXAH100, sold separately) and the Alpine KTX-H100 tuning kit (500KTXH100, sold separately) for automatic sound tuning or powerful manual tuning options. IMPRINT automatically measures the entire listening area, capturing time domain and frequency response information from each listening location to process and improve the sound at every seat in your vehicle. Precise control and corrections yield enhanced sound so you can enjoy an optimal listening experience. The IMPRINT audio processor allows you to customize your crossover adjustments so you can control where you send your high and low frequencies. It also provide detailed equalizer adjustments.

Audio Mute: Activating the Audio Mute function will instantly lower the volume level by 20 dB.

Interrupt Feature: When a device having the interrupt feature (such as a cellular telephone) is connected to the receiver, the audio signal will be automatically muted whenever the interrupt signal is received from the device. The supplied wiring harness contains a pink/black Interrupt lead that needs to be connected to the device's interrupt signal connection.

Beep Guide: This function will give audible feedback with varying tones depending upon the button pressed. This feature can be turned On or Off.

      Radio Functions

AM/FM Tuner: The Alpine CDA-117 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek and preset tuning.

Preset Tuning: The built-in tuner provides 2 FM bands and 1 AM providing allowing you to store 12 FM and 6 AM preset stations. Stations can be preset manually or automatically.

Local/Distance Tuning: Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those radio stations with sufficiently strong signals for good reception. Distance seek tuning allows both strong and weak stations to be tuned.

RBDS with Tagging: The RBDS (Radio Broadcast Data System) is a radio information system. The RBDS allows you to receive a variety of information such as traffic information, station names, and song information. The CDA-117 also supports RBDS Tagging, which allows you to save song information to your compatible iPod/iPhone connected to the head unit's USB port. The next time you sync your iPod/iPhone to iTunes, you can then purchase this "tagged" song.

HD Radio Ready: The CDA-117 can receive HD Radio signals, including multicast broadcasts, when the TUA-T550HD HD Radio Tuner Module (500TUAT550, sold separately) is connected via the Ai-NET connector. HD Radio provides music and programming in a crystal-clear digital format; FM stations offer CD-quality sound, while AM stations offer FM-quality sound, and virtually no distortion. Multicasting technology allows access to additional free music channels provided by most major radio stations. The add-on HD Radio Tuner also offers iTunes Tagging, allowing you to Tag songs on an FM HD Radio station. The songs' information is captured on the TUA-T550HD and transferred to your compatible iPod when connected to the USB port. The next time you connect your iPod to your iTunes account, a new Tagged playlist will appear and give you the option to preview or buy the songs from iTunes.

Note: iTunes tagging is supported by the iPod video (5th generation), iPod classic (80/120/160GB), and iPod nano (3rd/4th/5th generations). Right now there are about 2,000 radio stations broadcasting using digital HD Radio technology in the U.S. To find HD Radio stations in your area, visit the HD Radio website (HDRadio.com).

Satellite Radio Ready: There are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio tuner to this receiver:

Been through many HU but this one is staying for a while

Written By David, Philadelphia on Thursday, December 20, 2012

I've had a lot of HU over the year ranging from many of the reputable brands. I've had double and single dins, but i've settled that single din is my best bet. The alpine fell into my lap after selling my previous pioneer unit. I mainly use my iphone and various apps for music and the sound quality is beautiful even with streaming media. I have polk components, alpine amp, polk subwoofer and this HU. all three come to make my car very enjoyable on those long trips and traffic jams. i would consider myself a casual audiophile and this HU delivers. I've been throwing the idea of replacing this but everytime i drive, i'm leave my car without wanting more. maybe i'll do imprint one day.
      Pros:
      4v preouts for great sound.
      Cons:
build quality isn't what i'd expect from such an intially expensive headunit. the buttons don't feel all the great. also, alpine charges for everything.

      Disappointed

I recently bought this to replace my Pioneer DEH-8300ub and I'm not impressed. First off, as soon as it powered up, I noticed a slight high pitched ringing noise coming from the unit itself ONLY when the illumination was on. If I put it in blackout mode it went away. My ears continue to ring after exiting the car for a good few minutes. Second, the bass output is noticeably less powerful than from my Pioneer. Do not like that at all.
      Pros:
Looks nice, sound quality is great
      Cons:
Ringing noise with the illumination on, less bass

best radio i have ever owned; currently paired with imprint module but not using imprint calibraiton. that being said without the imprint the it losses much of its luster. the sound quality is excellent;the amount of mp3/usb media data it can access is overwhelming;and the volume knob can be used while driving without a near death experience (kenwoods take you through a sat exam after volume knob is depressed and it is super sensitive.) the time correction adds alot to the imaging that other radios lack. but all of that is nothing compaired to the active crossover capabilites of the imprint module. even on manual settings the active crossover adds so much dyanamic detail and crisp realism its awe inspiring. some times when one of my favorite old songs come on i cant help but grin ear to ear. i just know people at the intersection must think im crazy . if you look into actively crossing over your system it can easily add 800 dollars to your build and not have two interfaces that dont blend well. with the imprint you interface with the computer through the head unit . now i am using four kicker ss 6.5" components in the front actively crossover at 2.5khz at 24db slope -2 gain;the mid range BANDPassed (awesome) at 2.5khz 24db to 100hz 24db and im using kicker ss midbass 8" (free air) (four in the back window) at low pass 200hz at 0db slope. it sounds awesome. so much punchy bass that is so tight and very responsive.the mids and tweets get loud with no smearing !!! excellent.
      Pros:
active crossover capabilities ;streamlined interface ; access loads of usb data ; sample rates up to 48 ; supports enhanced cds ; imprint is very impressive to use-i had bad results but good results with manual tuning. high voltage pre outs. gets loud with no distortion and no smearing. great expandability . imprint is super cheap for what it does. imprint is soo small can fit it any where. ohh imprint will acousticly map your cabin so it helps alot with setting the eq to compinsate
      Cons:
severly handicapped without imprint. if not a hard core enthusiast you may want another h.u. without imprint its just a nice nice nice radio.

This unit replaced an older Alpine unit in a 1987 Mercedes Benz. I absolutely love the unit and enjoy linking it to my I-pod and playing my music. Paired up with JL Audio amp and Focal speaker system I look forward to every drive.
      Pros:
Easy installation. Great value for the price. Seamless connection to I-pod.Intuitive controls.
      Cons:

      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have to admit that I've been out of the loop regarding the latest in car sound. I've had a number of Sonys and Kenwoods in the past and have been happy. But I saw all the preamp outs and thought that I would upgrade as I got the pennies. I had been stalling the purchase of an ipod but when I saw this unit's ipod feature, I ran right out and got an ipod. I saw that a reviewer complained that the ipod control was a little slow. This is subjective. It is certainly fast enough. Since the last thing I want to do is wreck my car, I am very careful about when I work the ipod controls anyway. And I find that the ipod feature is fast enough that it is always waiting on me. Now, I find that the ipod capability is what I use the most and I don't drive anywhere w/o my ipod hooked up to this Alpine. SWEET! I must say this. In my younger days, I made my living working as a car audio installer. This was in the days when a saber saw was the tool we used the most. This is the first DIN unit I've ever installed. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This installation cannot be that easy! But it was. Then it was simply a case of plugging in the connectors and my car was rockin. I think that anyone not happy with this unit just doesn't want to be happy. AND OMG, the SOUND! Folks, I gotta say that I KNOW what good sound is and this unit has surpassed all that I've ever owned. I love it. I cannot stop listening to it. I like this unit so much that I'm buying another exactly like it for my other car.
      Pros:
Tons of features that I felt I would actually use. I've had store sales people always try to upsell me with stuff I know that I would never use. Not so with this unit. Having preamps for the sub, the ipod control, the removable face meant I could upgrade as I got the coins. This unit has plenty of presets abd has been very easy to navigate. Plus, it's been absolutely frustration free. How many products can we buy these days that can make that claim?
      Cons:
If I had any one complaint, it was that I had ordered this unit and the first one that I got didn't work. Shortly after connecting everything, the sound became very distorted, got a death lock on a CD and then gave up the ghost completely. Not real confindence inspiring. But Crutchfield fired off another unit and it has been superb. They even got my CD out of the first one and sent it to me. Crutchfield is the best! And I chalk up the first unit's failure to blind chance.

      not what i expected

Written By user, seattle on Saturday, November 05, 2011

now dont get me wrong its an OK unit if you are switching from a 50-100 dollar radio with absolutely no features or a smaller brand name such as dual, jensen etc its an upgrade...

but USB interface is very very slow. it is banking all the time it splits your music in banks of 1000 songs to supposedly speed up loading. but it still slow even when compared to older models of other brands like sony kenwood and pioneer.

playlist browsing is also very slow like browsing through CD changer interface.

theres just enough sound tuning features to make you want to buy the imprint. after using it for one day i had a very strong feeling that its what alpine wanted to do, is to make it so you WANT to buy more features because the ones included are just "almost there"

it would be ok except this radio is advertized as AUDIOPHILE, hi-fi, top of the line alpine unit, and it is far from it.

in the end i sold it and bought a kenwood kdc-x891 and its much faster.
      Pros:
nice and sharp looking faceplate. 3 4v preouts optional imprint interface with 3 way capability usb input time allignment
      Cons:
USB interface is painfully slow. even compared to a 2007 model kenwood stereo display is kinda simple, coule be more detailed blue color doesnt go with any dash colors

      Alpine CDA-117

I previously had the Alpine 9887 but it was stolen out of my vehicle and of course it is no longer available. Replacing that with this unit the learning curve earlier mentioned is true as the controls and menus changed some. Overall this is a great unit; with different EQ types and settings, and more functions than most other head units. The Ipod controls are simple but are slow, and that's my only gripe.

      Very Good Headunit

Written By Justin, Mukilteo, WA on Friday, September 30, 2011

This head unit is really great. Everything works as it says, however there are some hangups. The scrolling is incredibly slow. No matter how fast you scroll, it only moves one speed. Also, you can't control the stereo using the iPod itself, only the UI on the unit itself, which is obnoxious. The only thing that really bugs me is that the Graphic EQ option that I used to use is now nowhere to be found in any of the menus. Quite frustrating.

I have had Pioneer, Clarion, Jvc, Blaupunkt Head units. This Alpine is the best sounding Head Unit I've ever owned. I always buy the top of the line Head Units so it isnt the fact that any of My other Head Units were the cheap models that the other companys sell. This Alpine just plain rocks. I allways have buyers remorse about almost anything I buy because I always think Maybe I should have bought the other one. Not this time. I coulndnt be any happier.

      Review of Alpine CDA-117 receiver

Written By Larry, Deerfield, WI on Tuesday, August 02, 2011
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Alpine receiver is the best receiver I have ever owned. It replaced an older Alpine receiver and the sound is improved over the excellent sound of the older Alpine. It is very easy to use and will play AM/FM, CD's, XM (I was able to use the XM receiver from my old Alpine), and my Ipod. I play in several local bands and have tons of homemade music. The Ipod is so much easier to use than carrying around a dozen cd's. It plays plenty loud without an external amp, although I have a subwoofer amp and speaker connected. Anyway, I would recommend the Alpine receiver highly.

      If only if only...

Written By Brett D, Arizona on Sunday, May 01, 2011
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've spent hundreds of hours on labor & research on the equipment that went into my car, a lot of the work that will only ever be seen by me. I went through 2 of these units and scoured every single store display unit, they all exhibited the problem described below. Unless all my friends & I (one of which is a pro installer, yes a pro) have super human hearing.

2 star rating. From day 1 I noticed a high pitched whine coming from the display of the unit. I checked my grounds they were solid, even verified by a professional car installer friend. We thought it might be a ground issue but even moving the ground to different points the noise still did not go away. Internal amp was turned off. This noise is audible with music going until about half volume, in between changing tracks & during silent bits in the music. I noticed by using the "blackout" feature it would go away. I tried to get used to it but it just wasn't going to happen.

I would have given the it a 4.5 out of 5 because everything that it did it did well. It was a little pricey considering any other deck out there in this price range includes stuff like Bluetooth, HD radio, MORE tuning options (imprint does not count!), etc. If it weren't for this defect, which Alpine simply told me "that's just how their units are" and Square Trade claimed it was still fully functional, I would be satisfied. If you value SQ & moderate simple tuning take a look at the higher end Kenwood units.

      Alpine CDA-117

Written By Anonymous, Marshall, MN on Thursday, April 28, 2011
      Installed in a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
      Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Alpine CDA-117 CD Receiver has many great features! This receiver is simple, for the most part, and gives you the power you need to expand your vehicles sound. I own an 09 Chevrolet Silverado and was recommended the GM Onstar GMOS-LAN-01 LAN Data Bus Interface to keep my Onstar, door chimes and turn signals. I read some reviews about this product and found the PAC OS-4 to be the better fit. The PAC OS-4 also allows you to retain your XM through your DIC which the GMOS-LAN-01 does not!!! It comes with a practically plug and play interface and if you want steering wheel controls, its a cinch. I would recommend this to anyone installing this receiver into a 07 or newer Chevrolet. Crutchfield does not say this product fits, but I assure you it does.

Best receiver I have owned yet! Wish it came with the color change interface and some other minor details were different, but I am very pleased!

      Pros:
      Great sound from preamp outputs
USB input in back of receiver
      Dimmer

      Cons:
Doesnt have color change interface (Only Blue)
Changing bass, treble, and mids can be a bit tricky if your a newb

This is a great replacement receiver for the factory unit in my 1999 SVT Cobra Mustang. I like all of the features and really can't say anything bad about this unit. The only thing I don't like is if you really want to bring out the best sound you do have to purchase the Imprint hardware and software which adds to the price. Why not just make the Imprint part of the base package? Even on my stock Mach 460 setup, adding the Imprint package makes a big improvement in the sound quality.

      Amazing, except 1 tiny detail

Written By The Wraith, Chicago on Thursday, January 20, 2011

I wanted to give this unit 5 stars, but there's just one tiny thing that held me back. When you use it for your iPod, the remote doesn't control all the featuers. For example if you want to get into the artist list you have to hit the button on the unit as a way to select "ok" for example. Pressing play on the remote or anything else won't work. Although you can use the remote to scroll through them all, there's just no button to SELECT the artist and select the song. Maybe this can be done with an upgraded remote??? Other than that tiny little feature which I should be possible considering how nice the unit is... it's an amazing unit. Makes my factory infinity speakers sound 100% better, the lights are bright and blue which are fun to look at during the night. And it has so many options available to tweak the sound to your own preference. Other than the remote feature... it's a 5. No question.

I must say it's not what I had expected from Alpine.

Written By Weigel21, KS on Sunday, December 19, 2010

The CDA-117 seems to have slightly better SQ than my old 9833, but it lacks features. There's not even a LPF without the IMPRINT processor. The BioLite display is in truth no easier to read in direct sunlight than my older unit & the display shows less information at once. Actually, my older unit was easier to read since it tilted. The lack of button colors is a bit of a let down, but I knew that before hand. However, I really wish the display would have been all blue instead of just the stupid source icon, as it doesn't seem to wash out as easily. The USB is a joke if you plan to use this HU with flash drives or external HDDs as the banking system groups your music into groups of 1000 songs & switching from one Bank to another is more annoying IMO than simply switching USB sticks since every time you switch to another bank it has to bank the drive again. I had a 111GB external HDD attached to my HU for a couple of days (43GB of music) & it would take nearly 3 min to bank the drive every time the car was started or when I would switch banks. During this time searching for a song is unavailable. Alpine dropped the ball on this unit in my honest opinion.

The only things I like about this unit over my older is the ability of using USB (although this unit sucks for it), the ability to have playlists, & it was cheaper. However, after buying the IMPRINT Proc. & tuning kit you're looking at the same amount of money, but perhaps the IMPRINT makes it worth all its short comings.
