My system has plenty of power. Who needs an amp?

You might think you don't need an amp because you have a 400-watt system in your car, or because your new stereo puts out 50 watts a channel. But those are peak wattage ratings, which may boil down to 15 or 20 watts per channel, using the more realistic RMS rating. An amp sends your speakers the power they need to deliver your music with clarity and impact, whether you're using factory speakers or high-performance components. And low-frequency reproduction requires lots of power, so an amp is an absolute must if you're adding a sub to your system.

The MRP-F240 is designed to work in a variety of applications: With 40 watts RMS per channel in 4-channel mode, you can easily drive two pairs of full-range or component speakers. Or, bridge the amp to 2-channel mode for 100 watts RMS x 2. That power makes your music sound tighter and more detailed at all volume levels.

Selectable high-pass/low-pass crossovers at 80 Hz let you adjust the frequency output depending on whether you're powering full-range speakers or a sub. If you're driving a subwoofer and using the low-pass crossover, a subsonic filter automatically engages on channels 3 and 4; this eliminates very low bass notes (those that are too low to hear) for cleaner performance.

You'll want to take advantage of BassEQ's adjustable boost (up to 12 dB at 50 Hz). Speaker-level inputs allow you to connect the MRP-F240 to just about any system, and gold-plated terminals ensure that you get clean signal transfer both into and out of the amp.

Features

Power Supply: The MRP-F240 amplifier's power supply uses MOSFETs to convert DC battery voltage to the higher DC voltages needed for high power. It supplies positive and negative voltages around 0V, rather than around 6V as with conventional single-polarity power supplies. The result is higher power levels and a dynamic range wider by as much as 10dB.

Gain Controls: This amp has independent front and rear channel gain controls.

Crossovers: Both front and rear channels have independently selectable high-pass and low-pass fixed 80 Hz crossovers with a slope of 18dB/octave.

Subsonic Filter: This amp utilizes a 15Hz subsonic filter to eliminate super low frequencies that can rob power and damage speakers. The subsonic filter operates only for the rear channels, and is engaged when the rear channel crossover is set to "low-pass" operation.

Bass EQ: The Bass EQ circuit provides a boost of 0-12dB at 50 Hz for the rear channels only. The Bass EQ does not function when the amp's rear-channel crossover is set to "high-pass" operation.

Inputs: The amplifier offers both line-level and speaker level inputs for 4 channels. The supplied speaker-level input harness allows you to connect this amplifier to a receiver without preamp outputs, either aftermarket or factory.

Line Outputs: This amplifier has a pair of non-fading stereo RCA line outputs. You can use these outputs to daisy-chain another amplifier without having to run additional signal cables from the receiver.

RCA Cover: The amp comes with a plastic cover that protects and insulates the RCA connections. Two supplied machine screws attach the cover to the amplifier. Note: The cover adds about 1-1/4" to the width of the amplifier when installed.

Great amp...

I have the following in a 2000 Toyota Rav 4:

Alpine CDA-9847 Head Unit
Alpine MRP-F240
Infinity Reference 6012i (Front)
Infinity Reference 6012si (Rear shallow mount)
Kenwood 8" Bass Tube
Alpine KC-420i - iPod Control

I just purchased this amp and the infinity speakers from Crutchfield and I couldn't be more pleased. This amp pushes the speakers with ease, and does a beautiful job too. I ran it as hard as I could for about 2 hours and it barely got warm. I have this mounted under the drivers seat, completely out of sight.

I used decent interconnects, and have no system noise at all. Of course, this assumes you wire it correctly avoiding placing the RCA calbes and power wires together.

All in all, I would buy it again, and reccomend it in a heartbeat!!!

I bought this amp mainly for it's size. I have an '00 Honda Odyssey, which has very little room anywhere for anything. I ended up placing the amp under the front passenger seat, and let me tell you, it was a real pain to install; not because of the amp, but because of the way Honda engineered this vehicle. Pulling the cables under the carpet was a nightmare, and I would advise anyone owning this vehicle to buy the professional installation, or plan on having your van disassembled for a couple of days!

The amp itself is marvelous. I have a Sony head with XM, an Audiobahn 10" sub in the rear, and Sony & Polk speakers. The system was a little weak until I added the sub, but now it easily sounds as good as my home system. I would recommend this amp to anyone who is tight on space, and doesn't need to impress traffic two blocks away.

Awesome amp

I have this installed in my 1990 cougar pushing 4 alpine 2 ways type s ( i think) I can't remember which one's they are, but is amp is awesome. I have this baby cranked all the time, it never heats up, never shuts down, and never sounds bad. My speakers sound great (better after i installed some dynamat) and its such a clean sound. I'd have paid more for it, so price isn't much of an issue for me, but this is a great amp. but it and forget about it.

Awesome amp! I can turn up my system as loud as I want, and everything stays clear and free of distortion! Yes! It's LOUD and CLEAR!! I say again: LOUD!! ...and CLEAR!! I didn't get any alternator whine or any other electrical noise at all! It's all music, cystal clear and LOUD!!! I love it!! Freakin LOUD!! I love it!!

I just submitted a review for the v power mrp 350 and told everybody how awesome it was now I gotta show some love for the 4 channel version. I sell ALOT of these also at work and customers love them. They are small and deliver great SQ for the price. This amp on type s or type r components along with the 350 mono on 2 type e subs are a great system at a outstanding price. Belive me I sell that all the time. Check the reviews for this and the mono version, all 5's! That should tell you something.

This is a great little amp! Fit's in small places but put's out unreal sound! I have an Alpine CDA 9853 pushing 4x6 plates then I have the Amp pushing Alpine 6.5" components off of two channels and a single 10' Alpine sub off the remaing two (bridged). It's all in a full size extra cab Chevy truck and it sounds AWESOME!! Great amp for a great price!

Little amp, little cost,...great power!

I needed a powerful amp to fit under my driver seat; this was a good size (Jeep Liberty). To find an amp this small and powerful at a decent price was a miracle. A friend of mine has a different 4-channel amp with the same power output, but he had to mount it in the cargo area of his Jeep because it was so large. This meant longer speaker and RCA cables. Result: more money spent, more wiring work done, loss of cargo space.
I have these powering four Polk db650's. The moment I turned on my stereo after installation, I noticed the difference immediately: More clarity in the music; can hear notes and instruments I've never heard before. I'm able to turn up volume higher without distortion.
There's no drain in battery; no flickering headlights or gauge lights.
Factory and even aftermarket HU's are not enough to power speakers. This space-saving, powerful amp is a must!

More Than Satisfying

The following is installed in a 1994 Mazda 626.

KENWOOD KDC-MP628 CD Player
ALPINE MRP-F240 4-Channel Amp
PIONEER TS-A6870R 3-Way Speakers (2 Pair)
KENWOOD KSC-WD250 10" Powered Sub

My goal with this system was to create as high-quality of a system as possible for under $1000, and I based most of my decisions on the reviews of others here at Crutchfield's site. Thanks to you all (and esp. Bryce @ Tech Support!!!) for the help, because it came out way better than expected.

The Kenwood head unit is packed with features & gadgets and allows me to run my MP3 player flawlessly thru its AUX Input. NOTE: It powered the Pioneers decently well before my amp, but would distort at high volume. The built-in subwoofer controls and HPF, HPR, & SUB crossovers are invaluable for making on-the-spot adjustments for various music types.

The Alpine amp fixed all distortion from the Pioneers, which now perform incredibly. Together they offer a beautiful balance of mids & highs at all volumes, all while remaining crystal clear. I cut them off at 120Hz and can now blast them to the point of ear-ringing for hours on end without any interference or overheating (the amp is under the driver's seat).

The WD250 handles all below 120Hz, filling the bottom with clean, tight bass. I love that it offers passengers rich bass presence w/o upsetting the neighbors or shaking my car apart; exactly what I desired.

Overall, this system provides me with more than I ever expected. It's CLEAN & LOUD, and all at a killer price point. You won't win any competitions, but if you're looking for a rewarding musical experience that won't break the bank, look no more.

I installed this and hooked up 4 Infinity Reference 5x7's AND an 8" Bazooka - the sound was great.

I removed the Bazooka, and now it sounds AMAZING! This is a must have for folks that want to introduce power and great sound to thier stock system!

I purchased this amp to push 4 Infinity 6x8's. They scream with this baby! This is probably the smallest in size 4 channel amp out there. If you don't have alot of room, this is for you. I have always loved Alpine, and nothing has changed. The crossovers and gains are very easy to adjust, and it has great looks too.

For all those who want a very nice sounding system that you can hide from theives and won't bust your wallet, this is the way to go! I chose this amp, with the help of Crutchfield's excellent product advisors, because I wanted to have great sound and be able to keep my car's factory head-unit. The crutchfied tech. support team helped me to install the amp and replace my factory speakers with Alpine speakers matched perfectly to this amp's power. Since the speakers are in the factory locations covered by the original grills and the amp is hidden on the back of my rear seat in the trunk, anyone looking in wouldn't see anything but a boring base-line Toyota Solara system. The sound is excellent! Full, rich bass and clear highs are present without distortion no matter how high you crank the volume. Believe me, it can get loud! Don't let the low price or the fact that this is supposedly an "entry level" amp fool you, this is still Alpine quality equipment. Also, don't be afraid of the scratch and dent items. I bought the amp and speakers all from scratch and dent and had to literally search for little imperfections. If your system is hidden like mine, no one would notice and you would have saved money for gas.

I purchased this unit in January 2005 along with an Alpine CDA-9830 head unit for installation in a 1995 Mazda 626. The amp is driving a pair of component speakers in front and a pair of full range in the rear, all by Boston Acoustic. Dynamat has been installed in all four doors and the rear deck.

I was pleased with the sound from the head unit alone. But the fullness of sound when driven by this amp is just that much better. I listen mostly to jazz and pop, so I am not trying to blow any windows out. But the sound is loud enough for a listener to fully appreciate the music. There is no distortion that I can discern, or failure to power the speakers adequately.

I like this amp so much, I am considering purchasing another, and bridging both.

A good amp at a great price.

Excellent budget amp

I've had this amp for about a year now and for a budget amp it works great. Just about anything would have been an improvement over the stock stereo, so I'm really happy with the performance of this amp, the reliability is rock-solid. I've never had a single problem with it.

The installation instructions are very clear and easy to understand for a novice like me. It's pretty much idiot proof, they tell you what gauge of power wire to use, how to bridge the amp, etc. I'm running this amp with four 2-way Infinity speakers and the sound is very crisp and clear; the amp does a great job of separating the frequencies. The best thing about this amp is the size, it's the smallest multi-channel amp you can buy, and space was a consideration for my Corvette, and the amp fits perfectly into the rear storage bin.

I've tested this amp extensively, and at no time did it ever cut out or distort, I'm amazed that such a small amp can be so powerful. My next project is to put in a small subwoofer and bridge the rear channels, nothing to make the whole car vibrate but to add some depth to the music.

I highly recommend this little amplifier if you're tired of the stock stereo in your car and want to hear some more range in your music.
