Overview: The Kodak Zx3 PlaySport is a pocket-sized digital video camera that is
capable of recording high definition or standard definition video and digital
still images. It has a 2" LCD screen for recording and playing back your
videos and still images. It is also waterproof, so you can shoot video
underwater up to 10 feet.
File Format: The Zx3 PlaySport records video in H.264 (MOV) format with AAC-LC mono
audio, and JPEG still images. You can choose between the following capture
modes:
- 1080p: 1920 x 1080 (16:9) @ 30 fps; for viewing on an HDTV
- 720p/60: 1280 x
720 (16:9) @ 60 fps; for sports and action videos
- 720p/30: 1280 x 720 (16:9) @ 30 fps; for viewing on a computer,
and sharing on Facebook, Twitter, or YouTube
- WVGA: 848 x 480 (16:9) @ 30 fps; for conserving memory card space
- Still: 5.3MP (16:9) interpolated; for capturing high quality
still images
Internal Memory: The camera features a built-in 128 MB internal
memory. Approximately 20.3 MB is available for image storage.
SD/SDHC: Optional SD or SDHC (high capacity) memory cards can be used
to store videos and still images. The Zx3 PlaySport can accept SD/SDHC cards up to 32 GB.
A 32 GB card can record up to 10 hours of HD video (720p @ 30 fps).
Lens: The Zx3 PlaySport has a fixed focus 5.54mm, f/2.8 lens.
The 35mm equivalent is 48mm for 1080p, and 36mm for 720p, WVGA, and still
capture. The focusing range is 39.4" to infinity. The camera also has a 4x
digital zoom.
Controls: You can control the Zx3 PlaySport using the round
5-way control and the 4 buttons on the back panel. The 5-way control lets you
select the capture mode and zoom in and out. The buttons let you switch between
recording and playback modes, delete videos/stills, and the 11-function menu
(set time/date, TV Video Out (NTSC/PAL), LCD brightness, volume, microphone
gain, underwater mode, LCD Glare Shield selection, Electronic Image
Stabilization (EIS), Face Detection, Format SD card, and camera info).
Glare Shield: The PlaySport features two LCD Glare Shield
filters to help you see your subject on the display screen easier in reflective
outdoor settings. You can choose High Saturation or B&W (Black & White), or
Normal (no filter). These filters apply only to the display screen, not to the
footage.
Electronic Image Stabilization: For sharper videos and still images,
the PlaySport has built-in Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), which can be
turned on or off in the menu.
Playback Modes: During video playback, you can fast forward and fast
rewind in 4 different speeds: 2x, 4x, 8x and 16x. You can also play in slow
motion in either direction in 4 different speeds: 1/2x, 1/4x, 1/8x, and 1/16x.
HDMI and A/V Outputs: The Zx3 PlaySport allows you to view your videos
on your HDTV via the supplied HDMI cable (mini-HDMI to full-size HDMI). You can
also connect the camera to an non-HDTV using the supplied A/V cable with mono
audio and composite video.
Optional Remote Control: The Zx3 PlaySport has an infrared eye near the lens for
use with an optional remote control (item 738PVCR).
Power Requirements: The Zx3 PlaySport operates on the
supplied KLIC-7004 Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery (3.6V/1000mAh). The battery
can be charged on standard household current using the supplied USB cable and AC
adapter, or connected to your computer via the USB cable. Charging takes 2 hours
on AC current and 4 hours via USB. The battery can also be charged with the
optional Kodak K-7700 battery charger (sold separately).
Built-in Software: The camera comes with ArcSoft MediaImpression
software built into the camera. The built-in software is compatible with
Windows-based PCs only. When you first connect your camera to your PC, you can
install the software by following the prompts. This software, once installed,
allows you to:
- edit, trim, splice, and enhance videos
- add pictures and music to your videos
- grab still images from video frames
- add a voice-over to narrate your footage (when editing on a PC)
Mac Users: Video and pictures from the Zx3 PlaySport can be used with the Apple iLife suite of products to edit, personalize, make DVDs, share via YouTube and
Apple Online Sharing Services (iWeb and MobileMe), or with iTunes for synching
with the iPhone, iPod, or Apple TV.
