General
Features
Organic
EL Display: The OEL display features incredible brightness,
clear readability, wide-angle viewing and full-motion 3D graphics. Because OEL
creates its own electroluminescent light, its brightness is resistant to washing
out in sunlight.
Display
Brightness: The display
brightness can be adjusted from 0 to 31.
Display Form:
This unit is equipped with two basic displays, Form 1 and Form 2. In Form 1
mode, the unit only displays text information and the source icon, whereas Form
2 mode adds a selectable wallpaper background. In each mode, you can select
different Entertainment Display modes.
Entertainment
Display Modes: You
may select one of the following 5 Entertainment Display Modes:
- Movie
Screen: In Movie Screen mode, you can
select one of the following 5 movie screens: Movie
1 (Formula 1 racing), Movie 2 (swimming dolphins), Movie 3 (moving light
pattern), Movie 4 (robots), or All (cycles through all of the movie screens
sequentially).
- Spectrum
Analyzer: In
Spectrum Analyzer mode, you can choose from 4 different level meter display
patterns.
- Automatic
Sound Levelizer: In Automatic Sound
Levelizer mode, the unit displays the Automatic Sound Levelizer effect
level.
- Background
Visual: In Background Visual mode,
you can select one of the following 5 background visuals: BGV 1 (two
3-dimensional Rubik's cubes in motion), BGV 2 (moving light pattern), BGV 3
(moving squiggly lines), BGV 4 (two moving grids), or BGV 5 (two
3-dimensional spheres in motion). Note:
The Background Visual mode is not selectable when the unit is in Form 2
mode.
- Background
Still Picture: In Background Still
Picture mode, you can select one of the following 12 background still
pictures: BGP 1 (trees), BGP 2 (3-dimensional shapes), BGP 3 (Formula 1 race
car), BGP 4 (nature scene), BGP 5 (textured pattern), BGP 6 (textured
pattern), BGP 7 (mountains), BGP 8 (sea shells), BGP 9 (swimming fish), BGP
10 (windsurfer), BGP 11 (snowboarder), or BGP 12 (two rows of dots). Note:
The Background Still Picture mode is not selectable when the unit is in Form
2 mode.
Wallpaper
Patterns: You can choose from three different
wallpaper patterns. Note: The
wallpaper patterns are not displayed when the unit
is in Form 1 mode.
Demo Modes:
This unit has a Reverse Demo Mode and a Feature Demo Mode. In Reverse Demo Mode,
if you do not perform an operation for a period of 30 seconds, the display
begins reversing colors. It continues reversing colors every 10 seconds until a
button is pushed. When the unit is turned off, the Feature Demo Mode is
activated. The Feature Demo Mode displays the unit's different features and
capabilities using moving graphics.
MOSFET50
Internal Amplifier: This receiver is
equipped with a 50 watts x 4 (peak) MOSFET amplifier for low distortion, high
power output. The amplifier is strong enough to power small subwoofers to
moderate volume levels in compact cars and pickups. For higher volume levels
from subwoofers, an optional amplifier may be connected to the provided sets of
preamp outputs.
Soft Key Operation:
As you navigate the head unit's menu system, the "soft key" functions
change as indicated on the display. These
multipurpose "soft keys" help to eliminate faceplate clutter.
XM Satellite Radio Tuner
Compatible: This unit can control the optional Pioneer XM tuner (sold
separately). The optional tuner will allow you to receive XM Satellite Radio. XM
Satellite Radio programming features up to 100 channels of digital-quality
music, news, talk, sports, entertainment, and children's programming. XM
transmits these channels from its studios directly to consumers nationwide via
two high-powered commercial satellites. For monthly subscription fee, you can
receive the XM signal in your car and home using small car phone-sized antennas
and XM-capable radios.
Compatible with Optional TV Tuner:
This head unit can control an optional Pioneer TV tuner (not supplied).
Easy EQ
Curves: This model
has "SUPER BASS", "POWERFUL", "NATURAL",
"VOCAL", "CUSTOM 1", "CUSTOM 2" and
"FLAT" preset EQ curves. The "CUSTOM" curves are ones that
you create and store in memory; a different "CUSTOM 1" curve may be
set for each source, and the "CUSTOM 2" curve is one that will be the
same for all sources.
13-Band EQ:
The EQ allows you to adjust the following frequencies: 50Hz, 80Hz, 125Hz, 200Hz,
315Hz, 500Hz, 800Hz, 1.25kHz, 2kHz, 3.15kHz, 5kHz, 8kHz, and 12.5kHz. Each
frequency can be adjusted from -6dB to +6dB in 1dB increments.
Digital Signal Processing: The
digital signal processing includes Sound Field Control, Octaver and BBE sound.
Sound Field Control incorporates four programs that reproduce the typical sound
field of a studio, club, concert hall, or dome. The Octaver feature emphasizes
the bass, allowing you to choose one of two levels. BBE sound processing
technology makes the music sound live. The highs are clearer, naturally
brilliant and more finely detailed. The lows are tight, well defined and
harmonically rich.
Position Selector:
One way to assure a more natural sound is to clearly position the stereo image,
putting you right in the center of the sound field. The Position Selector
function lets you automatically adjust the speaker's output levels and inserts a
delay time to match the number and position of occupied seats. The result is a
natural sound regardless of where you are seated. You can select front seat
left, front seat right, front seats, or all seats.
Time Alignment: The time
alignment lets you adjust the distance between each speaker and the listening
position to match the type of car. You can choose one of the five following
types of cars: sedan, wagon, minivan, SUV, or custom. Custom is an adjusted time
alignment that you can create yourself.
Auto-Equalizer: Using the
supplied microphone, the auto-equalizer automatically measures your car's
interior acoustic characteristics, and then creates the auto-equalizer curve
based on that information.
Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL):
During driving, road noise in the car changes according to the driving speed and
road conditions. The Automatic Sound Levelizer monitors the road noise and
automatically increases the unit's volume level, if the road noise becomes
greater. The sensitivity of this feature can be set to one of five levels.
Source Level
Adjustment (SLA):
This function prevents radical leaps in volume when switching between sources.
To use this function, you compare the volume level of the sources (AM, CD, CD
changer, AUX) to the FM level, then you adjust the source level to match that
heard when listening to FM. Since the reference level is based on the FM volume,
SLA is not possible on FM.
Subwoofer/Non-fading Preamp
Outputs: In addition to
the front and rear preamp outputs, this unit has one set of non-fading subwoofer
preamp outputs. When set to "On", the subwoofer outputs may be set for
normal or reverse phase, 50Hz/63Hz/80Hz/100Hz/125Hz low-pass output, and the
level is user-selectable from +6 to -24.
High-pass
Filters: When you don't
want sound in the subwoofer frequency range output from the front and rear
speaker and preamp outputs, you may activate the built-in high-pass filters. For
the front and rear high-pass filters, you may independently select a filter
frequency of 50Hz, 63Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz or 125Hz.
Tuner:
This receiver is equipped with Pioneer's proprietary Supertuner III, which
provides excellent AM and FM performance.
MP3 Playback: This
unit can play MP3 files recorded on CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW discs in ISO9660
Level 1/Level 2, Joliet, and Romeo formats.
CD-R/CD-RW Skip Function: Some
CD-R/W recorders allow you to assign skip ID tags to tracks that you never want
to hear. When a track has been assigned a track skip ID, compatible units will
recognize the skip ID information and skip over that track. This player
recognizes track skip IDs, so CD-R and CD-RW discs with skip ID information will
be played back as intended.
Disc
Title Memory: Titles of up to 10
characters each can be entered into memory for up to 48 discs. When a compatible
changer is connected, titles of up to 10 characters each can be entered into
memory for up to 100 discs in the changer.
Optional Aux Input: When used
with item 130CDRB10 (sold separately) or item 130CDRB20 (sold separately), this
unit can accept input from an auxiliary source, such as a portable CD or MD
player. When item 130CDRB10 is used, a CD changer cannot be connected to this
unit. Item 130CDRB20 allows you to connect an optional Pioneer CD changer and an
auxiliary source to this unit.
Dimmer Feature: This
unit is equipped with a wire that Pioneer calls an illumination lead, however,
it acts as a dimmer lead. When the illumination wire of this unit
receives power and the dimmer feature has been turned on, the display will dim
to a preset level. Note: When the power and constant wires are connected
and the illumination wire is supplied with voltage (when you turn your lights
on), the button illumination remains on even if the unit is turned off
completely.
Cellular
Mute: This feature mutes or attenuates the
unit's audio output when a cellular call is received, then restores the level
once the call is over. To use this feature, you must have a
cellular phone with a muting output that can be connected to the muting input
wire (yellow/black lead) of this unit.
Warning Tone: If the front
panel is not detached from the head unit within 5 seconds of turning off the
ignition, a warning tone will sound. This feature can be turned On or Off.
Music Server
Features
10GB Hard Drive: The DEH-P90HDD has an internal 10GB
hard drive that allows you to store up to 200 CDs.
Digital and Analog Recording:
You can digitally record from the built-in CD player
to the music server. Recording from sources other than the built-in CD, such as
a changer or an auxiliary source (using an optional adapter), will be done in
analog. Note: MP3 files cannot be recorded onto the music server.
Built-in CD Recording:
When recording from the built-in CD player, you can select the following modes:

Disc (disc recording):
will record the disc you are listening to from the
current track to the end of the disc
-
Continue (continuous
recording): continues recording from the
interrupted disc recording to the last track of
the CD. (Even when a track other than the
interrupted one is selected, recording will be
performed from the interrupted track.)

Track (one-track
recording): you can only record the track you
are currently listening to
Multi-CD Recording:
When recording from a connected optional changer, you can select the following
modes:

Track (one-track
recording): you can only record the track you
are currently listening to (not from the beginning
of the track)
-
All (all tracks
recording): you can record all tracks from the
one you are listening to until you stop recording
(No rewind to the beginning of track or disc.)
Selecting the
Recording Quality: When recording,
it is possible to select the sound quality. The larger
the recording bit rate number, the higher the sound
quality, although the total recording time will be
shorter. You can choose a setting of 132 kbps or 105
kbps.
Automatic
Title Retrieval Function Using Gracenote
CDDB (for encoding only): When music is recorded
on the music server from the built-in CD, information
such as the recording artist and track name is
retrieved from the Gracenote CDDB database and
displayed. The database can be updated by downloading information directly from
Pioneer's website.
Playlist
Files: Playlist files are
lists of information on groups of tracks, containing
such details as recording date, digital/analog and
location. For every track, the playlist will contain
the date of recording, whether it is digital, and the
artist's name.
Playlist
Mode: The playlist mode uses
playlist files that group tracks according to the
recording conditions at the time of recording. The
mode allows you to play back only desired groups of
tracks. The custom playlist mode
allows you to create playlist files to record and
playback your favorite tracks. You can create six
custom playlist files.
Titles: The playlist file title, track title and track artist's
name can each be up to 20 characters for entry into
the music server.
Track
Title List: The track
title list lets you see the list of track titles in a
playlist file and select one of them for playback.
Repeat Play: There are three repeat play ranges for the
music
server: one-track repeat, playlist file repeat and
playlist mode repeat.
Random Play: Random play lets you play back tracks in the
playlist
file in random order.
Scan Play: When you select playlist file repeat, scan play
lets
you hear the first 10 seconds of each track in the
selected playlist file. When you select playlist mode
repeat, scan play lets you hear the first 10 seconds
of the first track in each playlist file.
Memory
Stick Player Features
MagicGate Memory Stick Slot:
This unit has a MagicGate Memory Stick slot (Memory Sticks optional). It lets
you play Internet music files you've transferred onto a MagicGate Memory Stick
from a PC or portable audio device.
Formatting
the "Memory Stick": When
this unit cannot read an inserted "Memory
Stick", the "Memory Stick" must be formatted
by this unit. Formatting a "Memory Stick"
erases all data stored on it.
Track Title List:
The
track title list lets you see the list of track titles
on a "Memory Stick" and select one of them
for playback.
Repeat Play: Repeat play lets you hear the same track over
again.
Random Play: Random
play lets you play back tracks on the "Memory
Stick" in random order.
Scan Play:
Scan play lets you hear the first 10 seconds of each
track on the "Memory Stick".
Pausing
"Memory Stick" Playback: Pause
lets you temporarily stop playback of the "Memory
Stick".
Changer
Controls
Compatibility: This unit is
compatible with Pioneer IP-Bus changers.
Changer Controls: In addition
to basic disc navigation features, this unit has the following changer controls:
pause, direct disc access, disc intro scan, track intro scan, track repeat, disc
repeat, all disc repeat, disc random, and all disc random.
ITS (Instant
Track Selection) Programming: The ITS function
can be used to program automatic playback of up to 99 tracks per disc for up to
100 discs. With changers sold before the CDX-P1250 and CDX-P650, up to 24 tracks
can be stored in the playlist.
Disc
Title Memory: Titles of up to 10
characters each can be entered into memory for up to 100 discs.
Disc
Title List: This feature allows you to
display disc titles that you have entered. From the list, you can select a disc
for playback.
CD Text
Display: When used with a CD Text
compatible Pioneer CD changer, this unit will display the titles of CD Text
encoded discs that are played in the changer. When playing a CD Text disc on a
CD Text compatible changer, you cannot switch to the Disc Title Input mode. CD
Text disc titles, artist names and track titles longer than 10 characters may be
scrolled to reveal the entire string of text.
CD Sound
Quality Adjustment: Using the
"COMP" (compression) and "DBE" (dynamic bass emphasis)
functions, you can adjust the playback quality of the changer. Each function may
be set to one of two levels or off. The
"COMP" function compresses the audio signal to eliminate distortions
caused by the imbalances between the loudest and softest sounds when played at
high volumes. The "DBE" function boosts bass frequencies to give your
music a more full sound. Note: For these
functions to work, they must be supported by the Pioneer CD changer.
Installation
and Operation Notes
Power Box:
This unit has a power box that must be mounted separately using the supplied
power box cord and self-adhesive hook and loop fastener. The hook
portion of the fastener is adhered to the bottom of the power box. The
2-3/4"x2-1/4" loop portion of the fastener must be applied to the
mounting surface. The power box has the following dimensions: W=2.641",
H=1.162", D=3.469".
Display
Illumination/Clock Display:
When the Time Display has been turned on, pressing and
holding the source button turns off audio output, but the clock display and
face/button illumination remain on. When the Time Display has not been turned
on, pressing and holding the source button turns the unit off completely.
This unit's illumination and clock are "keyed"
only when the Time Display has been turned on. When power is supplied to both
power wires and the illumination wire is not receiving voltage, nothing
illuminates if the Time Display has not been turned on and the unit is off. Note:
When the power and constant wires are connected and the illumination wire is
supplied with voltage (when you turn your lights on), the button illumination
remains on even if the unit is turned off completely.
