Overview: The Clarion CMS1 Marine Mechanism-less Source Unit consists
of a watertight commander with LCD display and a hide-away connection module.
The hide-away connection module includes a built-in 40W x 4ch amplifier with
integrated AM/FM/Weather band radio and a wide variety of connections; such as
USB, iPod (optional cable required), Aux, and Sirius Satellite Radio (optional tuner required). The wired
commander unit features a bright blue-backlit display and push-button controls to
operate the marine system.
Note: The Clarion CMS1 does not include a built-in CD player and
is not compatible with a Clarion CD-changer.

Marine Tested: The Clarion CMS1 Marine Mechanism-less Source Unit has been
engineered and tested for use in the harsh marine environment. The unit
meets or exceeds ASTM B117 Salt/Fog Exposure and ASTM D4329 UV Exposure
standards. The CMS1 offers full IPX6 tested and certified Waterproof
protection. The CMS1 features a water resistance chassis and HumiSeal coated PCB
to protect against corrosion.
Note: The CMS1's watertight commander is waterproof (XPX6). The
hide-away commander unit is water resistant.
Watertight Commander
Watertight Mechanism-less Commander: With the hide-away connection
module installed in a water-protected area, you can control everything from the
CMS1's wired watertight commander unit. Its simple design is void of any
mechanisms to maximize reliability. Its backlit display with large characters
provide easy recognition for various functions, and silicone keys help to
enhance durability and resistance to the elements.
Contrast: You can adjust the contrast of the unit's LCD display from
1-8.
Optional Wired Remote: The unit is equipped with a rear
mounted DIN connector to accommodate an optional Clarion wired marine remote
control. The Clarion MW1 (020MW1,
sold separately) is a hardwired remote control with an LCD display;
and the Clarion MW2 is a hard-wired remote control without an LCD display (020MW2,
sold separately). This way you can control your music from various locations on
the boat.
Audio Section
CEA-2006 Compliant Amplifier: The
hide-away connection module is equipped with a built-in 4-channel amplifier. The
CMS1's amplifier
section is rated at 16 Watts RMS x 4 channels in 4 ohms at 1% THD+N with a 91
dBA signal-to-noise ratio.
Preamp Outputs: The CMS1's hide-away module features a pair of
rear-channel preamp outputs.
Bass and Treble Adjustment: The Bass (100Hz) & Treble (10kHz) can be adjusted from -6
to +6 (+/-12dB).
Mute: Use this function to turn off the system's sound immediately.
Beep: The wired remote commander provides an audible beep to
confirm button operation. This function can be turned On or Off.
Radio Functions
AM/FM Tuner: The CMS1 features a built-in AM/FM tuner with
US and European tuning.
AM/FM Tuning: The built-in AM/FM tuner offers Seek, Manual, and Preset tuning. The CMS1 allows you to store 6 AM presets and
6 FM presets.
Weather Band: The CMS1 is equipped with a built-in weather
band tuner.

Satellite Radio Ready: There
are several options for connecting an optional XM or SIRIUS Satellite Radio
receiver to this receiver:
Aux/USB/iPod Connectivity
USB Port: The CMS1's hide-away module is equipped with a rear-panel USB
type-A port that is USB1.1 and USB 2.0
compatible. The CMS1 supports playback of MP3/WMA (8-320 kbps) audio files recorded in FAT12/16/32 onto a USB mass storage
class (MSC) device. The player can recognize up to 8 hierarchical levels per
folder, up to 255 files per folder, and a total of 510 files. This unit is
compatible with, and will display MP3 & WMA ID3 tags. The CMS1 offers USB
playback functions such a Play/Pause, Fast Forward/Reverse, Skip (Track/Folder),
Repeat (Track/Folder), and Random (Folder/All) as well as a list of your connected USB mass storage
device's tracks and folders.
Note: The CMS1 does not support removable hard drives. The optional Clarion 62" USB extension cable (020CAUSB,
sold separately) features a male USB type-A connector on one end which plugs
into the unit's rear-panel USB port and a female USB type-A port on the
other end with a rubber cap that can be flush-mounted for a permanent and
safe installation in a marine environment.
iPod/iPhone Compatible: The Clarion CMS1 allows you to connect your
iPod/iPhone via the hide-away unit's rear-panel proprietary 8-pin port and the optional
Clarion CCUIPOD2 iPod connection cable (020CCUIPD2,
sold separately). The CMS1 supports audio playback, control, and charging of
your iPod/iPhone. This unit also supports the display of title information transmitted
from your iPod/iPhone. The unit lets you search music for playback from your iPod by category
(Playlist, Artist, Album, Song, Genre, or Composer). You can also control the
following playback functions of your iPod: Skip Tracks, Fast-forward/backward,
Pause, Repeat, and Random. The Clarion CMS1 and optional CCUIPOD2 iPod cable is "Made for
iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod model features (as of
Aug 2010):

Note: This unit does not support iPod/iPhone connection
via its USB port. Apple software updates may
change functionality results. You may need to reset your iPod/iPhone if you
download a newer software version.
Auxiliary: The hide-away connection module
features a stereo RCA auxiliary input so
you can connect an external audio source. The
sensitivity of the aux input can be set (low, mid, or high) to match the output of
the auxiliary source to the other sources.
Note: The optional Clarion auxiliary extension cable (020CCAUX,
sold separately) turns the unit's stereo RCA inputs into a
single stereo minijack (3.5mm) input. The auxiliary extension cable's 3.5mm
connector features a rubber-cap and can be flush mounted for a permanent and
safe installation in a marine environment.
Installation
Watertight Commander: The watertight commander should be mounted to a
dry, clean, and flat surface; using the integrated mounted bracket and four
supplied mounting screws. Ensure the integrated rear gasket is fully sealed to
the mounting surface.
Note: The four mounting-holes are 4.3125" apart (horizontally) and
2.3125" apart (vertically).
Hide-Away Module: The hide-away module should be installed in a dry,
water-protected area. Select an area with sufficient ventilation for the
mounting of the hide-away module in order to prevent the module from
overheating. You may mount the module in a horizontal or vertical position. The
hide-away module features integrated mounting flanges and included four mounting
screws.
Note: If the module is mounted in a vertical position, do not
mount the module with the harness connection point directly facing up to
prevent water collection in this area.
Gimbal Mount (optional): The Clarion Gimbal Mount (020BKU001,
sold separately) is a pedestal-type mount designed for the Clarion CMS1 Marine
Source Commander. It provides suction-cup, screw-in, or self-adhesive mounting.
Once installed, the Clarion BKU001 offers multi-angle adjustment of the CMS
Marine Source Commander, so you can swivel the unit left/right or tilt the unit
up/down.
