Sanus

Our take on the Sanus LR1A

by Ralph Graves

Use this recessed in-wall box with your Sanus VM400, MF215, or LRF118 mount for a neater, cleaner installation. The box allows your mount's articulated arm to retract into it, bringing your flat-panel TV flush against the wall.

Patented Quick Shims™ let you level the box after installation just by turning the shims with your fingers — and they're easy to secure tightly into place. Cutouts in the box let you thread cables through to your TV. and the finish is paintable, so you can blend it perfectly with your room's décor.

  • in-wall box for Sanus VM400, MF215B, and LRF118 mounts
  • heavy-gauge steel construction

    Features

Overview: The Sanus LR1A in-wall box is designed exclusively for use with the Sanus VisionMount MF215 TV wall-mount bracket (051MF215, sold separately). It holds the bracket securely inside the recess of the wall, allowing the TV to be mounted close to the wall for a flush appearance.

Note: The MF215 is compatible with 15" to 37" displays, but to cover the recessed housing, the LR1A should only be used with 32" to 37" displays.

Weight Limitations: The combined weight of the monitor and adjustable arm wall mount must not exceed 60 lbs.

Installation: The LR1A fits snugly in the space between two standard 16" studs and is securely held in place with heavy-duty lag screws. After the box is leveled, the six supplied, finger-adjustable Quick Shim fasteners hold the box in place while you drive the lag screws through the hollow Quick Shims and securely into the studs. The wall mount brackets (sold separately) mount to the backplate of the in-wall box using the supplied brackets and hardware. The mount is recessed approximately 3-1/2" from the wall surface, and allows the TV to retract close to the wall.

Note: You must first make certain the area behind the mounting surface is free of electrical wires, cables, and plumbing before cutting, drilling, or installing the mounting screws. Failure to do so could result in serious personal injury or death.

Cable Management: The box includes knockout panels on the top and bottom for routing power and signal cables inside the walls along the studs and through the knockouts. There is also a knockout and pre-drilled screw holes for a standard J-box so you can install electrical service for the TV inside the wall.

    • Level
    • Stud Finder

    Sanus LR1A

Written By RussD, Roswell,GA on Sunday, March 11, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought the LR1A to use with the Sanus VM400 mount. I searched the web and read tons of reviews where people complained about flimsy construction of this or that mounting system. Well the Sanus products are definitely not flimsy. The LR1A is a big heavy chunk of metal. It is not only very well made but the design was thought out with care. I was very surprised the instruction sheet is readable and the screw holes all line up. This is a mounting box in that it fits into the wall and in that way your mount and TV can hang very close to the wall. If you want to get your TV as close to the wall as possible then this does work. The box has knockouts for power a AV cable. The knockouts are at both the top and the bottom. I am using the VM400 mount with this box. The power and AV locations are positioned well; the mount actually does not hit the cables when the TV is pushed back to the wall. The kit, besides coming with many nice heavy duty bolts, also comes with a handy template to mark where to cut on your wall. I had no trouble fitting between 16" on center studs. The LR1A was a very good choice for me.
    Pros:
    Heavy duty, excellent design
    Cons:
    none

    Easy to Mount

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was a bit hesitant to open up a wall in my house, but the installation instructions and templates made the job easy. I mounted a 46" Samsung LCD to the box. It is a very sturdy product.
