The MM1040D 10" dual voice coil subwoofer handles up to 350 watts RMS. A copper voice coil and neodymium magnet motor drives the polymer cone with exceptional efficiency. The carbon composite basket features a "wagon wheel" design that resists flexing during heavy excursion, so your sub hits solidly without distorting. The dual 4-ohm voice coils offer options for wiring a multi-sub system or drawing maximum power from your mono amplifier.

This sub is certified for marine use, and Polk includes corrosion-resistant stainless steel mounting hardware.

Klippel Optimized: Using a state-of-the-art Klippel Distortion Analyzer, Polk engineers were able to optimize the woofer's motor structure, voice coil alignment and suspension for the best possible performance, even at extreme listening levels.

Polymer Woofer Cone with Butyl Rubber Surrounds: The Polymer Woofer Cones and Butyl Rubber Surrounds will not break down over time and will survive the rigors of harsh automotive environments.

High Temperature Copper Voice Coil (50mm) and Polyamide Former: High Temperature 50mm Copper Voice Coil and Polyamide Former withstand the most rigorous use while maintaining extremely low distortion for bass punch and output.

Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils that offer wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2-ohm load. When wired in series, the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.

Carbon Composite Basket: The woofer's carbon composite basket is lightweight and will not flex during music audio peaks.

Nickel Plated Heavy Duty Input Terminals: Nickel plated heavy duty input spring-post terminals accommodate speaker wire up to 8 AWG or twisted pairs of 12 AWG.

Preconditioning Period: Mobile Monitor subwoofers will achieve even greater performance once they are thoroughly broken in. To break in your new MM subwoofer, play 20 to 30 hours of music at moderate levels.

Marine Certified Woofer: Polk MM Series woofers are built to withstand exposure to moisture and UV rays, so they work well in boats and cars. They also include stainless mounting hardware for corrosion and rust resistance.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume: Polk recommends mounting this woofer in a sealed enclosure made out of 3/4" MDF with an internal volume of 0.66 cubic feet.

Recommended Ported Box Volume: Polk recommends a ported enclosure made out of 3/4" MDF with an ideal internal volume of 1.0 cubic feet using a slot port measuring 13.5" wide x 1" tall x 20" deep.

Much better for SQ than DB

By far the best SQ for rock, jazz, and the such. Dave Matthews sounds amazing. But it seems just a tad weak in the DEEP low bass. Now don't get me wrong it's not bad...but my older Memphis sub had that bowel shaking low bass. But it was not nearly as good as sound as this polk. And I'll trade consistent sq over occasional super low bass any day. Let the teenagers get the stupid bass.

Polk Audio MM1040DVC Subwoofer

I just got this product installed in my car, and Can't wait to try it out. I've seen a couple reviews about how this sub won't "knock the other car out of his lane with your bass." I wanted to recommend that if you want a sub that will hit harder and louder, look to Polk's sister company, Orion. They make excellent products as well, but I personally prefer Polk.

I have mixed feelings on this sub. It may be one of the best sounding subs I've ever owned but this thing is power hungry. Maybe its my vehicle but it doesn't get as loud as some other subs I've owned. I'm pumping about a true 300 watts into this sub and I think it needs about twice that. I'm nit-picking of course since the sound quality of this sub is off the charts and its practically a shallow mount sub without being a shallow mount design. Maybe I was expecting too much from a single 10 in a big truck. I'm thinking of buying a 2nd one and upgrading the power to it since power is a lot cheaper than it used to be.

Bottom line - As others have said, it sounds better than just about any sub I've ever heard in its price range.

i bought this used off of a co-worker in july and have just now gotten around to getting my sound system started in my focus. its a 2003 svt 3 door hatchback, currently it has the factory audiophile front door speakers, and the stock one way 6x8's in the rear, those are powered off of my alpine deck. the bass on this thing is really exceptional if you build a large sealed box for it. a smaller box will make for tighter more sq styled bass but you'll lose low end punch, that said even my oversize box has great sq. it can get very loud in the car but standing outside you cannot tell i have much going on, which is what i like. i dont think i even need to do much soud deadening if any. planning of bolting two more into my box (its large enough for it) and seeing what i can get out of my 5 channel mtx amp.

Pros:

great sub, hit hard if you have the space to make a box big enough even in a space confined focus

Cons:

wish it was a bit cheaper new. so i could get two more.

This is a shallow but heavy sub woofer, but you can feel the quality in the structure the moment it comes out of the box. I love the rubber surround (my former sub was foam and it was shreded). But most importantly this thing sounds great! My set up is as follows mm6501 6.5 component mm1040d subwoofer pad 4000 4x125 amp

This set up is awesome provided you have a decent source. it hits hard with rap, is tight with jazz bass, and adds harmonics that even make NPR sound more full. All without being overbearing. With the mm6501 the base sounds like its coming from the front of the car and not thumping from the back. For the money I don't think you can beat the Cleanliness, Sound Pressure and Fidelity of this system. Its only going to get better as the woofer breaks in.

Polk Audio MM1040D

I've had one these subs in my trunk for a little while now and I have been playing around with different box configurations. I tried Polk's recommendations at first, both sealed and ported, but I wasn't happy with the performance. So I decided to put the numbers in my BassBox Pro software and see what I could come up with. Wow, with the right enclosure this little sub sings.The sub is very musical and clear sounding with very deep lows. Whatever genre of music you are into this sub fills in the bottom end nicely. Trust me, I listen to just about everything from Bass Mekanic to Beethoven. The bass is tight and musical; not just boomy and loud. Now one of these will not knock your neighbors nick-naks off the shelf but they can hear you coming and that's fine with me. I like a sub that sounds musical and clear but I do love to rattle the windows once in awhile and this sub does the job very well. So in my opinion, If you want a good musical sub that sounds good no matter what you listen than this will do the trick. But if you want to knock the other car out of his lane with your bass then look somewhere else.

Quality at the best price

I have a single 10 right now in a sealed box with .8 cubic feet, with 300watts RMS from a phoenix gold 500zx (the old white ones). Pounds really good, and it isn't even broken in yet. Other people were commenting that it wasn't able to go low on rap and r&b songs were mistaken. Hits almost as loud as a type R, but way better sound quality. Getting another one here shortly, and im sure that will fill in the little extra i want out of em. Overall amazing sub, good job polk~

Decent Performer

Due to reliability issues in the past I went away from mainstream sub companies and moved to internet sub companies and had great success.

Due to clearance issues my choices were limited and being so impressed with Polk components I decided to try out a pair of these.

So far the subs sound great with classical rock, light rock, classical music and some heavier rock. The subs are dissappointing when it comes to hip hop and rap as their lower end extension isn't the best.

The subs sound great as I said but don't get very loud. This is fine for me as I'm getting passed my years of blasting rap and hip hop.

I have a feeling the 12's probably produce much better low end bass and probably have greater output. I unfortunately had to pass on them due to clearance issues. If you have room get the 12's.

This is the best sounding shallow mount sub period. The sound quality of this sub is awesome. This sub hits clean deep and hard. I have had the kicker cvt shallow mount sub. The pioneer shallow mount sub and the rockford fosgate shallow mount sub. And this sub puts them all to shame. You won't be disappointed with this sub.
