Overview: The USB INSTEON PowerLinc Controller is a stand-alone home automation interface for controlling lights, appliances, heating/air conditioning systems and alarm systems. The PowerLinc Controller stores over 1,000 commands in its 32KB of memory. An on-board clock keeps accurate time, all the time, with an integrated 10-year battery backup.

Operating System Compatibility: The PowerLinc Controller USB works with all USB-aware versions of Microsoft Windows starting with Microsoft Windows 98se and above, with exception of Windows 2000/2003 Server. PowerLinc V2 Controller USB uses the Microsoft Windows Human Interface Drivers that are already in use and installed on all versions of Microsoft Windows 98se and later. This means there are no hardware drivers to install or conflict with other hardware or software.

Note: The PowerLinc USB is also compatible with Mac operating systems using optional Indigo 3.0 software (sold separately).

USB Port: Unlike other home automation interfaces, which use the slower RS-232 communication protocol, the PowerLinc Controller transfers data at much higher speeds because it plugs into any USB port or expansion hub so there is no need to plug and unplug other peripherals like PDAs, scanners or printers when you need to update the programming. In fact, many new computers, in particular laptops, don't include serial ports any longer, which will make using serial-based interfaces expensive and difficult to use.

Note: It is advised that you unplug your PowerLinc when playing games that use Microsoft's DirectX system while using USB input devices like joysticks.

AC Outlet Pass-Through: The PowerLinc Controller includes Smarthome's innovative pass-through AC outlet on the front of the unit. This outlet that allows you to plug in additional AC devices. While the outlet does not have any control features, it really helps against "power strip buildup."

Safety Tested and Factory Certified: The PowerLinc Controller is safety tested and approved. The assembly lines for SmartLabs Design Products are ISO9001 certified. In order to meet the ISO 9001 standards, the entire factory underwent rigorous inspections of procedures and policies before being thoroughly audited. The certification received was based on its dedication to high quality management systems and strict adherence of quality systems and guidelines.
