Just two front speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module bring movies and music to life via proprietary TrueSpace technology. The CineMate Series II offers quick and easy connections because there are no rear or center speakers, eliminating much of the wiring of traditional 5-speaker systems. An easy-to-use 4-button remote control operates the Bose system.

Proprietary TrueSpace Digital Processing Circuitry: The Bose CineMate Series II digital home theater speaker system utilizes proprietary TrueSpace digital processing circuitry to deliver a spacious, multichannel sound experience with strong center imaging from just two visible speakers and a hideaway Acoustimass module.

Videostage 5 Decoding and Post-Processing Circuitry: Proprietary Videostage 5 decoding and post-processing circuitry, combined with digital 5.1 decoding and DTS, delivers a high quality, multichannel surround sound experience from practically any source: DVDs, videocassettes, stereo CDs, even older mono TV shows and movies.

Digital 5.1 Decoding: The Bose CineMate Series II features an optical digital input and provides digital 5.1 decoding for improved realism from 5.1-encoded DVDs, DBS, or HDTV.

Digital Dynamic Range Compression: Digital Dynamic Range speaker compression circuitry enables you to hear soft sounds (particularly dialogue) even at low volumes, and still appreciate the impact of loud special effects.

Interface Module: The Interface Module is a compact enclosure that houses an LED indicator and connectors for audio input (stereo RCA and optical), and receives IR commands for the speaker system. The Interface Module connects directly to your TV while providing status information (on/off) for your speaker system.

Note: You can use either the module's stereo RCA analog audio input or optical digital audio input, but not both.

Articulated Array Speakers: The Articulated Array speaker design combines with TrueSpace surround digital processing circuitry to deliver extraordinary sound. Each speaker has two precisely angled drivers inside the ported enclosure. The two speakers are designed to work in concert with Bose's proprietary signal processing to deliver a multi-channel presentation from just two visible speakers. The result is a home theater experience with a broad, spacious soundstage and strong center imaging.

Speaker Array Mounting: Each speaker array has an M5 female threaded insert on the back, allowing the speaker to be mounted using an optional Bose wall/ceiling bracket, universal floor stand, or universal table stand. Using the supplied rubber feet, the speaker arrays can be placed on any flat surface.

Acoustimass Module: The Acoustimass module works in concert with the small speakers to deliver the full range of sound. The patented Bose design produces low frequencies for all channels with no audible distortion. When the module is tucked behind a curtain or chair, all of the sound seems to come directly from the two arrays.

Bass Control Knob: The bass control knob located on the rear of the Acoustimass module allows you to change the bass level of the Bose system.

4-Button Remote: The Bose home theater speaker system comes with a sleek four-button remote control which operates power, volume and mute functions of the CineMate Series II in a simplified, streamlined design. The remote control is powered by a CR2032 3V battery (already installed).

Fantastic gear

I was amazed at the sound quality of this system. I have a small place and was not wanting a complete surround sound system. The Cinemate offers excellent stereo with a broad spectrum of frequencies. Excellent bass response. This is a great system for small rooms.

Good Upgrade for TV speakers with no need for Receiver

I purchased this after listening to displays from two stores. The demo they have in stores are really amazing and it does almost sound like you have rear speakers, but keep in mind that you are standing just a foot or two away from the speakers. Once I received this product and have it running in my living room, I did not get the same affect as I did in the store demo, but I am now sitting 12 to 15 feet away from the speakers. I can hear a good left and right separation and it does sound full, but the sound of a rear speaker is now very little to almost none. The next couple of things I found, since I connected this directly via optical to my blu-ray player, is that it did not play anything that was coded with DTS. I had to set my DTS output from the blu-ray to Downmix PCM in order to play any blu-ray or DVD that has DTS encoding. The highest sound quality it will play directly from the blu-ray is Dolby Digital 5.1. I also had to go from 96kHz/24bit to 48kHz/16bit on the PCM output signal. If you had a 5.1 surround speakers before and want to replace them with these, then I would recommend not, specially if you want the sound from the rear speakers. Now, if you want to upgrade a TV sound and have surround like affect with very minimal speakers and setup, then this is a good choice. I did call BOSE tech support and they confirmed that this system will not play any DTS encoded sound. I exchanged this product for the BOSE Acoustimass® 10 speaker system.

It's a good TV speaker upgrade

Cons:

It does not play DTS encoded sounds

I was looking for a system that was very compact and not too expensive. For the price and size of the system, it has very good sound quality. It seems that the sound quality is actually better when viewing movies that have impressive sound tracks (Star Wars type stuff) than when just listening to music. Overall I am quite pleased with this product.

Looked at and listened to at my local store. Compact with a fantastic sound. I don`t have room for a bunch of speakers.. The sound is awesome when looking at movies and anythimg that has bass. Regular talk programs not much difference than TV speakers at low volume. It`s what I wanted for my situation.

Pricey

While working on a mini-home theater setup for the rec. room, I wanted a sound system that didn't take up a lot of space and wouldn't require a receiver. After a lot of research, I ended up with Bose Cinemate II system. Setup was a breeze and you're literally up and running in about 10 minutes.

This tiny setup packs a powerful punch and are far superior to the dinky TV speakers. I hear a lot of ambient sound I've never heard before through the TV speakers and the enhanced sound effects definitely makes you feel like you're immersed in the environment of the TV display. The Acoustimass base module isn't overpowering and complements the 2 array speakers perfectly. There's also a volume adjustment in the back of the module so you can adjust the base settings to your taste level.

I have a few minor quibbles. The dialogue levels seems to be a notch or two lower than where it should be. I'm not sure if this was addressed in the Bose GS II system but there seems to be variances in the sound output between the dialogue and other sound effects or music. Also, I wish there was a numerical volume indicator on the interface module. The module turns on with a green light and flashes every time you raise or lower the volume but that's about it in terms of visual features. These few quibbles are why I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

The Bose Cinemate II is an awesome no frills mini-system that will immerse you in the environment of what you're watching.

Pros:

Powerful immersive mini speaker system that's awesome for smaller home theater setups. Super fast setup.

Cons:

Dialogue levels seem to be a notch or two lower than music and sound effects. Features on interface module could be improved.

Bass

Great sound without running wires all over the room. To all those people complaining about lacking bass, try reading the Owner's manual-I know it's a scary thought-but you'll learn something about this product. It's not for huge rooms, it gives virtual surround affects-not true surround sound, & last but not least-you can increase the bass with the knob on the back of the bass module. Many folks condemn something they don't know how to use because they simply try to "wing it" without reading the manual.

Pros:

Quality. Great sound without taking up a lot of space in a smaller room.

Cons:

Price, but Bose was never cheap anyway-you get what you pay for.

Good, but not great!

With Bose you get the quality and design that you come to expect. However this system was a little disappointing. Now, what needs to be said is that I have put the system on my brand new Samsung 46" LED-TV (also from Crutchfield) that is located in a very spacious living room. So, the flaw might actually be in the size and scope of the hardwood floors and high ceilings that carry the sound.

With that being said, setting up was a cinch. So glad that I finally go to use an optical cable on a system. The setup DVD was actually very helpful for fine tuning. Rubber feet for the speakers were a definite plus, as well.

The sound... (keeping in mind the above mentioned statement of the room) it seemed that I had to crank the system up extremely high to get clear sound. There is no "surround sound" feel in the slightest! Even with the bass turned down on the back, it did not meet the expectations that I have heard from other systems similar to this one. So, I rate it 4 stars since I think the lack of "wow" is due to the type of room that it is in. Otherwise it would have been a 3. Still great setup with only 3 speakers.

the only way I can hear anything out of the bass mod is to put my ear up to it.

its the previous model but nothing has ever come from the bass mod.

Great Sound

The sound is typical Bose quality. I previously had a Samsung sound bar to go
with my 46" Samsung flat screen TV. Although the sound bar was good, the
Bose speakers are significantly better. The highs from the speakers are
outstanding and the bass from the subwoofer approaches theater type
listening! The only thing I miss is having the speaker control integrated into the
cable control. This is downside of not using compatiable equipment; a minor
issue.

I have had the Bose Cinemate Series II System for about 2 months and I am very
pleased. I bought it instead of a surround system for ease of set up and to not
have to run wires all over the room. I bought the Bose speaker table stands as
well. The sound is very good and plenty loud in the 20 x 20 family room it is
used in. It is pretty interesting how this works to be somewhat surround in
nature, it really sound like things come from the sides of the room (not from
the back, though). The base unit is tucked out of site in the corner and it
still sounds like the bass comes from the center of the TV. I also bought a
Logitech remote (the cheaper version) and have the push one button to turn on
cable, tv and Cinemate system-very easy!

I gave it 5 stars for what it is, a simple non-surround system that really makes
watching tv and movies much more enjoyable.
