Features
Enclosure Compatibility
Features
Cone:
The cone is a modified spoke cone design so the CVT series woofers are much more shallow
than their standard CVR counterparts. The ultra high performance
injection molded polypropylene cone remains
rigid and minimizes cone flex, lowering harmonic distortion.
Distortion in the cone is further reduced with 360° back bracing.
Surround: The optimized
ribbed Santoprene surround allows extended cone excursion for
additional bass output and higher SPL. The surround is stitched to the
cone to add a mechanical fastener to the chemical adhesives. This prevents the
cone and surround from separating in the harshest conditions.
Basket and
Motor Assembly: The high-strength steel basket features a low-profile open
design, and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor
assembly. Perimeter venting relieves pressure under the spider,
supports a linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and
motor structure.
Tinsel Leads: CVT subwoofers use Spiralead
tinsel-lead technology, which allows the ideal amount of flex for better
strength and durability. The tinsel lead wires are
woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.
Break-in Period:
Due to the complex nature of Kicker Comp VT speakers, they require a
break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The
high-performance suspension system makes the speaker very stiff
out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow
the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A
broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother
response, and greater low-bass extension.
Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot
covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the
woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The boot is removable if
needed for tight installations.
Marine Ready: This woofer is made with a
powder coated, weather resistant basket and stainless steel hardware, so it can
be used in marine and mobile applications.
Enclosure
Compatibility
Depth: Kicker's new CVT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer
options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design
allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed or
vented enclosure. The spring-loaded binding posts are mounted parallel to the
cone surface to minimize depth. Also the steel Clearance Adapter Plate enables
you to cut out part of the back of the enclosure to create more room for the
woofer magnet, subtracting the enclosure wall depth from the equation.
Recommended Sealed Box
Volume:
- Compact (minimum enclosure
volume): 0.2 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 150 watts RMS.
-
SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 3.0 cu/ft; the woofer can
handle up to 150 watts RMS
Note: The power handling
specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply only
when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter (sold separately) is used with this
woofer. If a subsonic filter is not used, power handling may decrease, and the life of the woofer may be shortened.
Recommended Enclosure: Kicker recommends a sealed enclosure for the
08CVT654. A vented enclosure is not recommended. The enclosure should be filled
to 50% with loose poly-fil (polyester fiberfill) stuffing. The panel dimensions
for a 0.2 cubic foot compact sealed enclosure (using 1/2" thick MDF) are:
- Front and Rear Panels: 14" x 14"
- Top and Bottom Panels: 14" x 2"
- Side Panels: 13" x 2"
