    Kind of confusing at first.

I'm giving it a four star because of all the extras that came with were unnecessary. Was my first time too so that made it worse lol.
    Pros:
Simple to use and I can still close my cover thing :D
    Cons:
So many pieces came with it that I didn't need o_____________o

Not a bad product, but like others have said, there are way more pieces in the bag then you need.
    Pros:
    Looks good when installed
    Cons:
Confusing instructions, and was missing screws from the kit.

Pretty good for free. Looks good.
    Pros:
    Easy fit
    Cons:
The instructions could have been a bit clearer on which tabs to cut off. I figured it out but the instructions were not clear. Also, the remaining tabs are a bit flimsy, but hey it will work.

    Tricky

These kits are good in theory, I guess. The parts are customized by breaking off plastic tabs. But for my installation, in a 2004 Scion XB, one of the tabs was on an extension that seemed to be less sturdy than the tab itself. I had to take the tab off gradually with a keyhole saw, and when I was finished, the extension didn't seem too sturdy. The DIN sleeve was supposed to be held in place by bending metal tabs, but they didn't want to hold against the plastic, so the installation didn't feel too solid -- I might take it out and drill holes through the plastic so I can screw it in.

The kit comes with way more pieces than you actually use, and there's no indication whether the plastic is recyclable.

Customizing the brackets without breaking the pieces ended up taking more time than attaching the wiring harness to the head.

I had the receiver installed in about an hour. And it only took half an hour to take it out and put the old one back in when I decided to return the new one. The kit is well designed.
    Pros:
Ease of use and looks great. My double DIN now has a single unit and a neat compartment below it.
    Cons:
Some confusion on which tabs to remove. Be careful.

Works great and fits easily. the pics were a bit ambiguous as to which tabs to break off. Figures out when fitting in to the vehicle.
    Pros:
    EAsy to use
    Cons:
Should be able to secure the head unit to the sides of this for more stability.

    Scion install kit

Written By Sig, Logan, Ohio on Wednesday, March 14, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kit is for many Scion and Toyota vehicles and has several pieces to it. Once the instructions are reviewed and the correct pieces are selected for your vehicle, it will assemble with no problem. There are several mounting tabs molded on the parts and the ones not needed have to be removed before installing the kit into the dash. After checking the diagram and also comparing the kit to the stock stereo (removed from the car), it was clear which tabs were necessary to remove. After installation is complete, the appearance and fit is just like the stock stereo. No perimeter gaps to the trim panels. Overall, a good kit.
    Pros:
Fit and finish is good. The kit screws into the dash without any issues and all of the vehicle trim panels line up to the kit for a good appearance.
    Cons:
No cons stand out for this kit. Allow some extra time to trim the mounting tabs that are not needed, but other than that, no problems.

    Good Kit for Scion xA

Written By Caprice, Bronx, NY on Friday, February 17, 2012
Installed in a 2004 Scion xA
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit was really easy to assemble and install, I see what everyone mean by the instructions not showing you all the tabs that had to removed but nothing a small cut with a blade and the press of a thumb couldn't handle. My only headache was getting the radio sleeve in, that thing is tight but thats a good thing so the radio is in pretty snug.
    Pros:
Looks clean and is very secure.
    Cons:
I would say be wary of the head unit's sleeve, could be a little tight and the dash trim it came with was too thick for my stereo (kept jamming the flip out screen) so you may want to use the one your Head Unit came with.

Fits fine in my single DIN opening. I had to modify the main piece slightly. It had two little tabs for screws that didn't exist on my model. I used a razor cutter and they came right off. I would've liked to have had the option to place the cubby above the unit rather than below.

    Scion XB 2005

Written By daniel_los_angeles, Alhambra, CA on Thursday, December 15, 2011

scion xb 2005 pros: IT FITS!

cons: The instructions for breaking off parts is not complete. You have to break off 2 extra pieces at the bottom. Just try to install it the way they have it explained, it will not fit. You will see which ones are blocking the way at the bottom. Cut them off.

The higher 2 that seems to be blocking can actually stay in there. They fit if you push it through. And seem to stabilize the unit. I used a garden rose stem cutter to break off the pieces.

It would be 4 stars if they instructions for breaking off pieces were complete. It would be 5 stars if we didn't have to break off pieces in the first place. :D
    Pros:
scion xb 2005 pros: IT FITS!
    Cons:
scion xb 2005 cons: it doesn't fit unless you break off 2 pieces that are not mentioned in the instructions.

After 6 or 8 car stereo purchases that went without a hitch, this one kinda stumped me! I
always read the instructions thoroughly before starting, and still had problems with this
one. The kit comes with a main unit with a bunch of connection tabs on it. You have to
remove the ones that are not needed. The kit comes with a little instruction booklet that
tells you what tabs to remove depending on what car you have. My dumb - I didn't notice
that the car ino was at the top of the page. Kept looking at all the options and saying
"Which one?" Kept going back for a table of contents or something. Nada. Finally called
Crutchfield and the guy was really nice in the way he said to use the option with my car
type printed at the top. My duh! So, I did what the booklet said, got all involved in the
install, and lo and behold, two more tabs had to be removed. And they were ornery! I
ended up having to get out my Dremel tool to get them off. Like I said, 6 or 7 times this
was no problem. Don't know why this one was.

Instructions are incorrect. Product does not fit right

Written By Dragonboats, Seattle, Wa on Sunday, February 06, 2011

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, the instructions and diagrams do not fit the product, making it impossible to determine which tabs to clip off. The plastic case also does not match that of the stock stereo, so it took a lot of trial and error to determine how to use it. Unless you are very mechanically inclined, this will cause you lots of difficulties.

Also, after installation on the 2005 Scion xb, you can see that the case does not fully fill the space left by the stock stereo.

Well the kit was good but could have use clearer instructions. Pictures shown
were not of my car so i had to imagine it in my head. Also be careful when you
break off the extra pieces to make it fit, that you don't break off the wrong
part! I didn't but it was a pain. It did fit perfect one you take the extra
pieces of plastic off. Would buy again.

directions are very unclear. you actually have to break pieces of the kit off to get it to fit, and the ones on the directions arent even correct. does not fit snug into the dash of my scion xb. oh, scion DOES NOT WANT YOU CHANGING THEIR STEREO. they make this a near impossible task. for future attemptees: scion comes equipped with a wire for all of the illuminations that you see (the color changing), this wire does not connect to anything when you replace the stereo. no one will tell you this. if you do connect it to something it will blow fuses for your dash lights and tail lights.

Looks good when installed, but a pain to get it there! Horrible tab design with cheap plastic snaps that don't lock properly. Took much longer than necessary to complete install just because of this mount.

    Nice Fit

The unit fit nicely in my 06' Scion xB after I cut off all of the extra tabs that had to be removed. The drawing that came with the unit did not have the best illustration. This would have been a pain cutting the tabs if it weren't for the full size bandsaw I have, but overall I'm very pleased.

Everything fits well and looks good. You do have to cut extra mounting tabs off the plastic mount. Use diagonal cutters, metal snips or a Dremel cutting disc.
