Video: NuForce iDo DAC
Christopher, web designer at Crutchfield, tried out the NuForce iDo™, a digital-to-analog converter/headphone amplifier for iPod®, iPhone®, and iPad®. He was looking for a desktop system for his music, and the iDo turned out to be the perfect solution.
Christopher: I work in a noisy office, and I like to listen to my iPod at work and I was looking for a good solution to power my headphones. I got a chance to try out the NuForce iDo and this particular NuForce is designed specifically for the iPod which will take files from your iPod.
And it's a fantastic little device that just plugs in through the USB in the back and goes right into the 30-pin connector here bypassing the mini jack. It gives you much better sound, whereas some of the other converters rely on your computer.
And so this worked really well as a solution to go directly from my iPod Touch to my converter source to my headphones. Listening to music through a DAC rather than without brought such a level of complexity — the music back that was missing. You were hearing things like on piano tracks you could actually hear fingers hit keys. You can hear fingers slide up guitar strings. All that was missing before and it really just takes you right in the presence of the performance. When you can hook up your headphones into a decent DAC with an amp that can power the headphones you really notice quite a difference and it opens it up so much. Even these smaller headphones sound fantastic through the NuForce iDo.
