Kicker

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Our take on the Kicker KS69

by Jo Greene

You put some good bass in your car, but now your speakers just aren't hanging with your subs. Kicker designed their KS Series speakers to deliver the performance you need to bring that "live music" experience to your ride.

The KS69 6"x9" 2-way speakers use heavy-duty polypropylene cones supported by Santoprene rubber surrounds. These speakers can handle high-level playback without straining, especially when they're powered by an outboard amplifier. Each speaker sports a titanium 1" dome tweeter that broadcasts plenty of high-frequency sparkle, so you'll hear all the sonic details that make your tunes exciting.

Highlights:

  • 2-way 6"x9" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with Santoprene™ surround

Great speakers, friends thought i had a sub!

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

wow these guys are great, i have them paired with an aftermarket sony receiver which gives out only 17w RMS and these things sound like i have a huge sub in the trunk! after a lot of tweaking of the settings in my receiver, they were perfect. my 16 year old friend was shocked that they were just 6x9s, and the mids and highs are great. i even put them on top of a layer of dynamat xtreme and my rear deck is still vibrating! my rear view mirror will go crazy if a certain frequency hits. i have a '96 honda civic sedan
    Pros:
handles lows great, very powerful speakers
    Cons:
none that i know of yet

    1969 Camaro

Written By Bill, Massapequa, NY on Sunday, May 12, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used in rear deck of my 1969 camaro. I did not know what would be the best speaker to use. Allen was very helpful and recomended I use the Ks69. I ran these directly off a pioneer head unit, I did not want to use any amps. Once I hooked them up and adjusted the radio, they sound pretty good. Overall I am happy.
    Pros:
Direct fit in 1969 camaro. Sound good.
    Cons:
Hardware was missing from box, but they sent it right away.

    KS69 in 2003 Honda Accord

Written By midlc, Fenton (St. Louis) MO on Saturday, February 16, 2013
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers perform exactly as I expected. I listen to lots of pipe organ, symphony, and jazz music. It's nice to hear the low bass notes now!
    Pros:
Excellent sound. Crisp highs, reinforced lows.
    Cons:
These speakers don't really fit as well as indicated on the website. Only 2 of the 4 mounting holes line up, and they protrude about 1/2 "" too much off the rear deck to use the factory grills (as instructed). I think I can modify the grills to fit without damaging them.

These speaker were easy to install (though the mounting holes did not line up perfectly in my 96 Mazda Protege) and provided great bass. I think they'd be better with more power (I'm not using an amp) but I'm really pleased for the price.
    Pros:
    Great bass.

    None, really...

    Excellent Speakers

Written By EdH, Colorado on Saturday, December 29, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have had these speakers in my Civic for over a year now . I have installed aftermarket audio in 5 of my vehicles over the years . The only speakers that impressed me more was the Boston Acoustics components I put in my old Mustang . I would make two suggestions for those looking to purchase these 1) Aftermarket HU these things crave power . 2) Although an aftermarket HU is good you should really hook these up to an amp to get the most from them . I would definetly buy these again and HIGHLY reccomend them
    Pros:
    Outstanding value
    Cons:
    none

    Pleasantly Surprised

Written By AlanL, Escondido, CA on Tuesday, September 25, 2012
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I previously was running Rockford Fosgate Punch P-652 components in the front doors of my Xterra with an Alpine amp pushing 45 rms, and the bass response was nonexistent, mids were poor, and highs were fantastic. Sound quality was very good but i wanted something that was a little bit more well rounded.

I was hesitant to switch to a coaxial speaker though, but friends always said great things about Kicker products and since the front doors fit 6x9's i figured it was worth a shot. Wow. I can't even describe how much better these sound than the Fosgate components that cost twice as much. These wont win any SQ competitions, but highs, mids and lows are all clearly defined and I just can't imagine getting more sound for the money. Also, these have the best bass response i have ever heard come out of a coaxial speaker.

If you have a 6x9 opening in your car, i would give these a shot. Prepare to come away impressed.

    Pros:
Bass response, a lot of bang for the buck
    Cons:
Highs aren't as crisp as previous components, but that was to be expected.

    Worth it

Written By G M, Jacksonville, Florida on Monday, July 16, 2012

These are a great upgrade to any oem system. The woofer cones put out so much bass, when I added a small 8 inch sub the difference was very minute in bass response. All of my friends are impressed with the sond they produce. Also durable, I've put them to the test many times and I get very little distortion before it gets uncomfortable to be in the car. Tweeters add crisp high notes.
    Pros:
Everything. Looks, Sounds, performance and durability

    Nice upgrade

Written By Ruben, San Jose, CA on Monday, June 04, 2012

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these Kicker 6x9s to replace the factory speakers in the rear deck of my 2006 Honda Accord. So far I am happy, mid bass is tighter with overall more vocal and instrument clarity. Nice upgrade, about what I expected, not overly impressed but that is probably more due to the fact that these could benefit from more clean power from an amp than what the factory deck is providing.
    Pros:
Nice large tweeter, efficient enough to replace oem speakers running straight from factory receiver.
    Cons:
Probably need an amp to really get the most out of these. Also, these speakers are too high and the factory grills had to be modified with lots of plastic trimming so they could be reused.

Best Bang for your Bucks Upgrade

Written By Rafael, Laurel, MD on Sunday, June 03, 2012

These speakers are the easiest and cheaper way to improve your sound system. My installation was for a Honda Accord Coupe 2003 to 2007. They sound way better than the factory speakers providing clear lows and highs. But, there are two things that you should be aware of before installing them. First, the factory speaker cover has to be trimmed to fit with the new speakers. Nothing hard to accomplish if you have a small rotary tool with a cutting disc. Second, only two of the four mounting screws line up with the new speakers. Luckily, these screws are cross patterned so your speakers will be mounted solid and will not rattle.
    Pros:
    Sound Clarity and Construction
    Cons:
    None

1997 Civic LX Sedan Rear Speaker Replacement

Written By Jim, Houston, TX on Monday, April 30, 2012

Replaced the paper cone factory 6x9s located in the rear deck with these. Also upgraded the fronts at the same time with some shallow-mount Infinitys. HU is an aftermarket Sony (CDX-GT740UI) that I installed a couple of years ago (which improved the sound coming from the factory speakers). The sound quality of these speakers is very good (esp for the price) even just running off the HU - I can turn up the volume louder than I could with the original speakers. The "stuffiness" of the original speakers is gone. An external amp would make these things really sing (true for any aftermarket speaker upgrade to provide clean power and avoid amp clipping), but that's a purchase for a later date. For now, I am happy with these. The installation was easy - the screw holes lined up with the original ones in my deck and the speaker wiring harness adapter from Crutchfield made the wiring a snap (literally). I did add some foam along the edge of the speaker between the mating surface and the metal deck and also along the outer edges of the plastic deck covering to prevent some rattles (which seems to be working). Once an amp is in place, vibration damping material will be needed, most likely (the metal deck skin is awfully thin....), but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. For now - very happy!
    Pros:
sound quality, runs well off an aftermarket HU power, easily installed (in my car)
    Cons:
    none yet

    Just Awesome

Written By Long, Acworth, GA on Monday, March 26, 2012
Installed in a 2004 Buick LeSabre
    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this set of speakers in the rear deck of my 04' Buick LeSabre to replace the factory paper cones. The installation was fairly straight forward, though the rear deck cover was a pain to remove. The speakers fit the factory insert perfectly but the magnets hang down a bit too low to clear the trunk lid tension bars... Spacers are needed to achieve this.

I could not be more pleased with the results for the money - these speakers sound awesome! I actually have the bass on my head unit turned down to level 2 (out of 6) because any higher is just too much bass for most music. I listen to everything from classical to pop to rock and all sound fabulous over the Kickers. These speakers are powered by the factory head unit, which is nothing special (GM / Delco brand). The Crutchfield tech told me that my factory unit would not provide enough power and most likely distort, though I have not found that to be the case. Buy these speakers (or anything from Kicker, for that matter). You will not be disappointed.
    Pros:
Awesome bass! Crystal clear sound. Didn't break the budget.
    Cons:
Highs could be a bit crisper but honestly a non issue for the price.

    Amazing speakers for the dollar!

Written By Damien, San Antonio, TX on Sunday, March 25, 2012

I bought these to replace the worn OE rear speakers on my 99 Civic hatch. I liked how they sounded on the store demo and the price was within my budget.

The quality is very good and they fit right in with no modifications. When I turned on the radio I could tell a difference right away. The sound was much more crisp with better high notes. The bass is also there and it doesnt distort the mids or highs. If you dont want a subwoofer but dont want to miss out on bass I would recommend these. Of course they wont rattle your mirrors but they have such good sound quality you wont believe theyre this affordable. Aftermarket speakers usually dont play bass notes since they are meant to be paired with a woofer but these play low notes! I have factory speakers in the front and I cant even tell theyre there anymore. Sometimes I mess with the fader to see if my fronts are even working!

4 years later I have them in a 97 Accord and they still sound great. I would definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a cheap but good upgrade. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN AFTERMARKET RADIO WITH THESE. The factory radio will not pump enough power to hear the sound quality these can produce.
    Pros:
Perfect fit great highs great mids great lows for an aftermarket speaker Lasted me 4 years and still going
    Cons:
None so far. Keep in mind they are higher than factory speakers. The factory speaker grille on my 97 Accord doesnt seal completely, im only using the 2 side screws but it still works fine. On the 99 Civic the top grill didnt interfere.

The speakers were installed into the rear deck of my 1999 Honda Accord. Installation was pretty easy. Two of the four screwholes aligned with the holes in the Honda. The other two screws were drilled into the speaker from the trunk side of the deck using self tapping screws. The sound is clean and a huge improvement over the worn out factory speakers.
