Sonos Music System
SonosNet Wireless Mesh Network: The Sonos PLAY:3 brings
great sounding music wirelessly to any room in your house, without a big wiring
project. SonosNet, a proprietary wireless mesh network technology, provides
superior wireless range for whole-house coverage, ensures synchronous music
playback, and avoids sources of wireless interference. The transmitting range of
the PLAY:3's built-in wireless system is approximately 100', depending upon your
Note: Thick walls, microwave ovens, and the presence of
other wireless devices can interfere with or block the wireless network
signals of the Sonos Digital Music Signal. When interference occurs, you can
relocate the PLAY:3, change the wireless channel, make a wired (Ethernet)
connection, or add a Sonos
Bridge between the router and the PLAY:3 to extend the wireless range.
Multi-Zone Compatibility: You can place a PLAY:3 in each
zone where you want to listen to music. The Sonos Digital Music System can
accept up to 32 Sonos players. With multiple zones, you can play the same or
different songs in different rooms. The PLAY:3 can be combined with other Sonos
components; including the PLAY:1 or PLAY:5 amplified wireless music players,
ZP120 amplified zone player, and ZP90 zone player.
Network Connection: The Sonos PLAY:3 connects to your home network via
its rear-panel Ethernet jack which connects to your broadband router. If the
PLAY:1 will not be located near your router, you can connect a Sonos Bridge (616BR100,
sold separately) to the router instead; the Sonos Bridge will then wirelessly
connect to the PLAY:3. One Sonos component must be connected to your broadband
Note: When wirelessly connected to a Sonos Bridge or another
Sonos component, you can use the Ethernet port on the back of the PLAY:3 to bring standard Internet connectivity
to your Satellite/Cable set-top box, DVR, PC, game console, or network hard drive.

Note: The Sonos PLAY:3, computer, and Apple iOS/Android
device must be connected to the same home network.
Home Network Requirements: To access Internet music
services, Internet radio, and any digital music stored on your computer or
Network-Attached Storage (NAS) device, your home network must meet the following
- High-speed DSL/Cable modem, or fiber-to-the-home broadband connection
for proper playback of Internet-based music services. If your Internet
service provider only offers Satellite Internet access, you may experience
playback issues due to fluctuation in download rates.
- If your modem is not a modem/router combination and you want to take
advantage of Sonos' automatic online updates, or stream music from an
Internet-based music service, you must install a router in your home
network. If you don't have a router, you will need to purchase and install
one before setting up your system.
- If you are going to use a Sonos controller application on an Android
smartphone, iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, or other tablet, you may need a
wireless router in your home network.
- Connect at least one Sonos component to your home network router using
an Ethernet cable, and then you can add other Sonos components wirelessly.
- For best results, you should connect the computer or NAS drive that
contains your personal music library collection to your home network router
using an Ethernet cable.

you find the sound most enjoyable. Its compact size makes it easy to place the
PLAY:3 on your desk, the kitchen counter, on your nightstand, or carry it out to
the patio with you.
- Horizontal/Vertical Mounting: Position the PLAY:3 in a horizontal or vertical
orientation to make a perfect fit into tight spots around you home like on
bookshelves, nightstands, corners, or just about anywhere else. The EQ automatically adjusts so the sound
you hear is always great, not matter what orientation you use. For optimum performance, maintaining more than 1" clearance
around the back of the unit is recommended. Integrated rubber feet protect your furniture and keep
the PLAY:3 secure.
- Wall-Mount (optional): The Sonos PLAY:3 has a 1/4"-20 integrated,
threaded mounting hole. If desired, you can easily wall mount the PLAY:3 using a

or hidden wiring, and follow the instructions included with your wall mount kit.

outside during a rain storm or position it near water. Care should be taken
if placing the Sonos PLAY:3 close to an older CRT television. If you notice
any discoloration or distortion of your picture quality, simply move the
PLAY:3 further from the television.
